Hairdressers in Beverley/ East Yorks anybody?!

PullyWoolOver · 31/10/2012 14:44

Dearest fellow S&Bers, I have just moved to Beverley, East Yorks and have no clue about where to go to get my hair cut.

Can anyone recommend a good hairdresser? Ideally one who can give me a funky short do as have made the decision to go for the chop .

Oh, and if they can also make me look like Michelle Williams who's hair I covet that would be grand Grin.

Isn't Mark Hill based near there? I had a friend and a colleague who used to travel across from Leeds to see him and I think his stylists are good too. I worked with him a couple of times (years and years ago on a health channel) and he's lovely. I'm sure he's in Hull or Beverley.

Joan Dempsey in Bev. down alley opp M&S. Ask for her.
Mark Hill twice the price and that doesn't make Joan Dempsey cheap.

iseenodust · 31/10/2012 15:45

and welcome to the sticks.

pocketandsweet · 31/10/2012 15:49

Smile at the welcome to the sticks.

A cut and blow with a senior/"leading" stylist at Mark Hill isn't extortionate. Lizzie is fantastic and I have always loved my hair when she has done it.

You could always just book in for a consultation and get a feel for the place. It is the best place in Hull (it's in Kirkella, not Hull anyway) for precision cutting, which is important if you're going short.

was just going to suggest Mark Hill salon - its in Kirk Ella and i go there and would not go anywhere else.

fab. very very good cuts, and as cheap or expensive as you want to make it. i have had cuts with them all, Mark trains them all for 2 years personally.
he is a lovely bloke (has no idea who i am but always smiles and waves and seems very cheery!)

ive had cuts with them all there now. I now have Rosie - she is lovely and really good. She always makes little suggestions and always gives a 100% time and thought to making my hair look fab.
she is the most junior stylist there - i have had them all do my hair and she is so professional and enthusiastic - and actually really not expensive at all.
hth!

PullyWoolOver · 31/10/2012 18:52

Wow thank you for your suggestions everyone! It's hideous and scary looking for a new hairdresser isn't it? Good to know there are some good'uns in the area.

I've heard of Mark Hill before I think (doesn't he have a line of products in Boots?). And Joan also sounds good, I will investigate both!

Iseenodust - thanks for the welcome Grin are you also in the sticks?

i love beverley....id move there. i travel to go to Mark Hill. Yes he is a famous hair dresser and i got a shock to find him there, setting little old biddies hair in rollers when i went for the first time! its a village salon and its really nice. They are a nice bunch.
never had a bad cut or colour there.

PullyWoolOver · 31/10/2012 21:59

X-posted with you Vicar! Beverley is lovely isn't it? Never thought I would be a country girl, but it's grand so far. Mark Hill sounds really great, I will give them a call tomorrow. Thanks again to you all, a good hairdresser is a real find - will let you know how the chop goes...

Yes I'm in a 'Beverley village' - so prob scarily close. PM me if I can be of help, though this is a rare foray into S&B! Hope Mark Hill suits you. Joan trained with Nicky Clarke and many of the quietly monied head there. Wink

iseenodust · 31/10/2012 22:18

oh but we're not monied by any measure Grin

withjamin · 01/11/2012 18:24

Am still hyperventilating with excitement that there is at least one actual MN-er in beverley. we are thinly spread amongst the sticks.
I've been going to urban quarter opp angel/cut-price bookstore for a while. Is an aveda salon. A bit less "provincial" than most beverley salons ime, i.e. at least one of them may once have seen Manchester /London.
Didn't know about Joan Dempsey - will peer in next time I'm in town.

iseenodust · 01/11/2012 21:51

Three of us may constitute a crowd and probably should not gather in public places. Grin More lurk over Pocklington way.

PullyWoolOver · 01/11/2012 23:41

Ooh MNers near me - how exciting! Should we arrange a meet up? Or is that not done in the sticks? Wink

Was living the glamorous dream for a minute today - hair appointment booked and looking forward to some pampering time.

Unfortunately the dream was short-lived as I am now covered in baby sick and nursing a poorly DD - looks like it's going to be a long night...

ThatVikRinA22 · 01/11/2012 23:44

oh no!
rest assured if you have a cut at Mark Hills your hair will be glam even when the rest of you isnt!

i love my hair at the min.....

rosie has breathed new life into it! who did you book with? its a lovely salon and easy to get to unless its snowed, if its snowed dont bother

PullyWoolOver · 02/11/2012 00:08

I have booked with Rosie, Vicar, on your advice. Am so looking forward to getting good hair! DD is 10 months now and I look like Wurzel Gummidge on a bad hair day after almost a year without a haircut.

At least I shall be able to wipe baby sick out of lovely shiny hair rather than scrape it out of my current birds nest Grin

Hopefully it won't be snowing in two week's time

Rosie is lovely, and really enthusiastic and professional. My hair is great thanks to her. I have had quite a few of them do mine, lous, and tash, but I stuck with Rosie now. She's fab. I'm sure you'll have a fab cut. Smile

HeartOfDixie · 02/11/2012 22:34

tis fab.

iseenodust · 05/11/2012 10:26

Heart many choose to swerve the old fire station as dominated by old school male GPs. We're happy with northbev (though Dr M is marmite to some including me) and have been with them a few years.

iseenodust · 05/11/2012 10:31

Oh and if she wants a recommended NHS dentist - Church House on Norwood.
Best vets is next door. She will find them excellent and will drool over the Spanish guy like everyone else.

HeartOfDixie · 05/11/2012 21:15

Thanks so much iseenodust. Will pass that on, especially the bit about the Spanish gentleman!

MimsyBorogroves · 05/11/2012 21:24

Bit late to the party, but if you can face a trip to Hull, ACDC is very good. They're on the marina.

Hetaera · 09/11/2012 12:41

So... how did the haircut go?
