Meeting DPs Friends for First Time - Night Out Outfit Needed Please. Gold Sequin Skirt or am I Delusional??

OK ladies, am looking for your help please.

Got a big night (in a club - yeah, yeah I know, at my age Blush) coming up in the not too distant future where I'll be meeting my newish DP's friends for the first time. That part is kind of irrelevant but I do kind of what to create a knock 'em dead impression.

I'm 34 (though am told I do look about 6 years younger - for now at least), 5ft 6, size 10-12 (mainly 12) hourglass and 32e. Relatively young and trendyish in style. God, I sound like a right wanker typing that Grin

Anyway, first DP since seperating from exh last year and its been years since I've done the whole meeting the friends thing so prob will be nervous. It's also been years since I've been to a proper club night so don't have a notion what to wear these days.

Have it in my head that a gold and black short skirt with black opaques, killer heels and a tight fitting slightly cleavagey black top would look nice.

Am I living in cloud cuckoo land and entering some kind of Liz McDonald early mid life crisis?

Anyway seen any such type of skirts that don't look overly gaudy and have a bit of classiness about them? Have googled to no avail.

If not, any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks

does he think you'll enjoy warehouse project? it's not much of a place to meet people or will you meet them in the bars before hand?

FaffTastic · 27/10/2012 23:30

Thanks for pics ruddy - have looked through the first few and, Jesus Christ, it does look busy, overcrowded and hot and very fecking young

Am hoping I'll be that tipsy by that stage of the night I won't give a feck what I'm wearing. So, slightly veering off OP, do you think the skirt or shirts will be suitable for bars in Manchester with a group of 30 something's that I'll be meeting for first time?

I know I'm overrhinking this introduction thing and working myself into an unnecessary state!

Yes Ruddy, we'll be meeting in bars beforehand.

He does think I'll enjoy it. He only bought the tickets because I saw fatboy slim on the tv and mentioned that I'd forgot how good he was. Wish I'd kept my fecking mouth closed now.

Oh but he has been to the WP loads of times before. I suppose I could actually ask him what it's like Grin

i actually would go for shorts, tights, a wedge heel and a loose fitting blouse plus a blazer.

SomethingOnce · 27/10/2012 23:36

Ah, Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong, Basement Jaxx... You can probably do a bit more glamour than the Squarepusher night, then.

ruddynorah · 27/10/2012 23:38

see girl on right that could work for you.. pencil skirt, vest, nice pendant.

FaffTastic · 27/10/2012 23:45

Phew, thanks for the tips. 'Tis difficult planning for a place in a venue I've never been to in a city I don't really know!

Now don't start me about my hair. Was planning on a messy side bun up do. Yes, I know on the pics most of the girls have their hair loose and free but I have naturally wavy/curly hair that if its hot hot hot makes me look like a poodle and if I straighten it it will go curly within 5 seconds of walking into the place. Curly messy side bun with a slight beehive on top and feck it if my hair looks over done Grin

And yes, I know this night isn't actually until December Blush but I'm normally completely disorganised and didn't want to leave it and end up in a last minute rush/panic.

(We're long distance/different cities so no chance of meeting his friends before then for an icebreaker)

Thanks everyone for your help and advice

Have lost a very similiar jacket back in the day doing exactly the same Horrace!

Will order the shorts and the skirt and see what they're like on me. Thanks again everyone.

One last thing...

Unless it's changed a lot, it's not the sort of place where people will be judging other people's outfits.

Wear whatever and have a great time Smile

FaffTastic · 28/10/2012 00:30

Thanks Something. Yeah, I didn't think it is was a snotty kind of place where people judged others or look down their noses. I guess I just want to look shit hot but not stick out like a sore thumb. I hate the stress that comes with new relationships! Think it is just the uncertainty of going to a place/city I've never really been to before - if it was my own turf if be okish Grin

Skirt and hotpants have been ordered!

Wear comfy shoes! The warehouse project is a place to dance and get sweaty more than to pose and there will be limited opportunity for chatting!

justabigdisco · 28/10/2012 10:10

If I were going (and I won't be, sadly) I'd go for something like shorts with either converse or flat ankle boots, sparkly vest top and necklace, hair up in messy bun sounds good.
