Meeting DPs Friends for First Time - Night Out Outfit Needed Please. Gold Sequin Skirt or am I Delusional??

OK ladies, am looking for your help please.

Got a big night (in a club - yeah, yeah I know, at my age Blush) coming up in the not too distant future where I'll be meeting my newish DP's friends for the first time. That part is kind of irrelevant but I do kind of what to create a knock 'em dead impression.

I'm 34 (though am told I do look about 6 years younger - for now at least), 5ft 6, size 10-12 (mainly 12) hourglass and 32e. Relatively young and trendyish in style. God, I sound like a right wanker typing that Grin

Anyway, first DP since seperating from exh last year and its been years since I've done the whole meeting the friends thing so prob will be nervous. It's also been years since I've been to a proper club night so don't have a notion what to wear these days.

Have it in my head that a gold and black short skirt with black opaques, killer heels and a tight fitting slightly cleavagey black top would look nice.

Am I living in cloud cuckoo land and entering some kind of Liz McDonald early mid life crisis?

Anyway seen any such type of skirts that don't look overly gaudy and have a bit of classiness about them? Have googled to no avail.

If not, any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks

I think a pencil skirt is absolutely fine for being in a club, especially if you leave the tights off then they can look a bit sexier than a mini tbh.

FaffTastic · 27/10/2012 22:20

I agree with the bare legs and pencil skirt Teeb but I generally hate showing my legs unless on holiday as I think they're too pale and blotchy looking an I just don't get on with fake tan.

Will I look like a dick wearing black opaques in a club?

A skirt without tights? Without tights?

Clearly Teeb has much better legs than me Grin

I can't see a problem with opaques in a club, though I've just looked at the website and it looks v.v.v.v.v.v. busy. I suggest wearing as little as possible so you don't pass out.

FaffTastic · 27/10/2012 22:30

As little as possible without looking like a strumpet was the look i was aiming for Grin Think the majority of the evening will be spent in bars in Manchester before heading to club later.

Hopefully by that stage I should be suitably tipsy drunk enough to not feel like a total eejit dancing to club music

Oh, probably should mention that newish DP is 37 and presumably his friends are roughly same age - so if I look like an old gimmer compared to the rest of the clientele they'll look even older Smile

I'm in the NW and know people who have been to the Warehouse Project. From what I gathered it was hot and busy, so try to avoid long sleeves! I wear black opaques day and night as I don't like having my legs out and somehow feel slimmer Hmm

Wear an outfit you feel comfortable and confident in and you will look great Smile

Well, if the OP doesn't go for that outfit (minus the swimming costume!) then I will. It's brilliant. Worth the effort Horrace

FaffTastic · 27/10/2012 22:46

I don't think it's a pervy meat market type place Horrace hopefully but do really like your outfit suggestion. I have similiarish shoes, jacket and clutch already so wouldn't work out too expensive.

My legs are fine apart from the v top of my thighs so might order the shorts aswell to see how short they are and if my arse hangs out of them or not.

Horrace if I ever go out again you're officially my personal stylist ok? I love that outfit OP, but think the blazer is a very important part of it, makes it more classy.

justabigdisco · 27/10/2012 22:50

I've been to the Warehouse Project - although a couple of years ago - it is v casual. Think more festival/gig than club.

FaffTastic · 27/10/2012 22:55

I have a blazer in a pretty much identical style but is made from a light jersey material. If I did wear just a bra under the top I could keep the blazer on in the bars etc and by the time it got to the club it would be too busy/dark/full of drunks for people to notice/care that I'm wearing just a bra under a sheer top?

Could I really wear hot pants and a bra to meet DPs mates for first time? Baring in mind it's not just a quiet dinner and a few drinks and it will be nearly Christmas so presumably loads of people will have their glad rags on?

OP posts:
FaffTastic · 27/10/2012 22:58

Disco - really? Bang goes the hot pants and bra showing idea then Grin

I do think I could make it look classy though rather than teenage raver. Maybe if I toned it down with black suede shoe boots rather than the real killer heels

SomethingOnce · 27/10/2012 23:04

Bloody phone, sorry!

... I think it's in an old factory. Prob still more raver than dressy-uppy, though.

Starshaped · 27/10/2012 23:08

What justabigdisco said OP. The Warehouse Project crowd tends to be more casual than glam. It will depend slightly on who's on the night you're going but it my experience it isn't a dressy dressy venue.

I mean contemporary raver, btw, not some silly late 80s/early 90s stereotype Grin

Check the artist line-up for clues to the likely crowd.

ruddynorah · 27/10/2012 23:20

Oh lord, I don't have a clue do I Grin I feel too out of touch for this malarkey - any other type of scenario I'd know what to wear, it's the club thing that's throwing me.

Fatboy Slim is one of the main headliners if that helps Blush

Think one of the main issue is that it's been so long since I've dated and done the whole introduction thing, I kind of want his friends to be impressed by me saddo. I don't want to deviate too much from my own style but don't want to stick out like a sore thumb. I do love the hot pants and the geo skirt but don't want to be overdressed or underdressed as I would feel uncomfortable.

A lot of the evening will probably be spent in bars in Manchester and I've no idea what females wear to go out there. I've lived in numerous big cities and they all have their own 'style' iykwim

God, I should probably start posting in the relationship section rather than s&b Grin

I wish I'd had a warm coat for the way home after. I found the Manchester night very cold in December...
