mosschops30 · 10/10/2012 21:09

I want this one

but recently went up north and a lot of young 'less than classy' girls wearing barbour.

Whats the general feeling? I dont want to spend £170 on a trashy coat

yep I'm with dexter too..
I was starting to panic thinking people would think I'm Chavy.. but I guess as I wear it and my (old) navy blue hunters to walk my border terrier in, I'm hopefully don't look chav. I'm a proper bumpkin with my Volvo estate too lol.. I am also aspirational all though.

dexter73 · 11/10/2012 12:19

Where I live it is more of a mum coat than aspirational!

NellyJob · 11/10/2012 12:22

defo not chavvy - pining for a waxed green one now...

AmberNectarine · 11/10/2012 12:26

I got mine half price in the sale an it ticks the boxes of being navy, waterproof, warm and not making me look like a sack of shir like my ugly green North Face.

I also have metallic lizard effect Hunters.

I am emphatically not a chav.

Ergo, no, they are no chavvier than most things, in their own right, but pairs with a velour track suit and a sovereign ring could be made to appear so.

AmberNectarine · 11/10/2012 12:27

Typotastic - maybe I am illiterate instead of a chav?

NellyJob · 11/10/2012 13:01

I want the lizard effect hunters!!!

MissBoPeep · 11/10/2012 13:53

MissBoPeep - the thing is I don't give a shit what judgements people make about the clothes I wear.

Really ? Shock

Funny- I thought you did simply because you posted as you did.

Alitoomanykids · 11/10/2012 13:57

yes and even more so if worn with leggings and pumps! btw I am the not so very proud owner of a burberry check buggy which has been nicknamed the chav-mobile.... so not really in a position to comment Grin

Woozley · 11/10/2012 14:05

DH has a Barbour green waxed jacket but he is Mr Anti-Fashion. He has always dressed like a country gent when not at work. Tweed/Barbour jacket, checked shirt, mustard cords, brown shoes or Aigle Wellies. I find it amusing that he may now be accidentally fashionable.

BobbiFleckmann · 11/10/2012 14:07

My green waxed Bedale (with tartan lining) has my name written in it from Pony Club camp. My mum bought a couple of sizes up for me to grow into, but I never grew, so it is VAST on me and therefore quite impractical for riding. Hundreds of pockets capacious enough for gloves and pony nuts adn wallet and keys and so on. I even have green wellies (le chameau not hutner at least) so am really quite chavvy ( you know it's madly chavvy to use that word? it's horrid)

BellaVita · 11/10/2012 14:13

I must be a chav then... I have a black one with red lining and Barbour written on the front in gold.

EwanHoozami · 11/10/2012 14:13

the Council Housed And Violent around here wouldn't wear that.

BellaVita · 11/10/2012 14:17

Bought mine in Fenwicks.

EwanHoozami · 11/10/2012 14:21

Bobbi don't ruin my image of you in an off-the-shoulder gold batwing jumper and mahoosive 80's earrings.

PropertyNightmare · 11/10/2012 14:21

The brand is not inherently chavvy. It is a bit like how some people view Pandora, in that the ubiquitous presence of the brand makes it 'common' or chav. Yes, lots of not very wealthy people save up their benefits/dole/minimum wage etc in order to wear Pandora and Barbour but that does not render either brand as 'chav' in my eyes.

dexter73 · 11/10/2012 14:26

MissBoPeep - where did I post that?

higgle · 11/10/2012 15:00

I love mine - I have three of them, one is over 30 years old and still fine - a long "birding" jacket. I have a Bedale I pinched off DH that I wear in the winter - that is 20years old at least. My third is a modern fitted jacket with a georgeous rusty coloured check lining that I had 2 years ago. I think they are lovely and not at all chavvy, except the quilted ones.

notso · 11/10/2012 15:01

They are worn with cuff jeans and toms round here, very naff.
Only seems to be the black or quilted ones though, the classic whiffy green ones are not popular.

HedgeHunter · 11/10/2012 15:08

I get a wet bum in my Barbour as leaning against the radiator has melted all the wax from said arse area - and wet a wet foot as put a fork through the toe of my ancient Hunter.
Do chav's know what mud looks like?

conorsrockers · 11/10/2012 15:40

chipstick - what size and colour? if you want to cut your losses I could save you 7 days of EBay torture.!!

Hunters - guilty too, I have bought cheap wellies for the kids in the past and they begged me to go back and replace them with Hunters as their feet got wet!!

Isn't it just that more people have more disposable income now and have realised you get what you pay for??

MoomieAndFreddie · 11/10/2012 16:03

I want a Barbour coat too Blush

I want one with the logo on though

Itsafineline · 11/10/2012 19:03

There are loads of fake International jackets around - Barbour have had to do whatever it is companies do when their brand is being ripped off. Of course, the Barbour factory (& factory shop) is 'up North' so maybe these people had been there?

BobbiFleckmann · 12/10/2012 12:13

EwanWhoozami bless you! (i do own a silver batwing v neck but it shows boob down the side)
