If you've tried the mumsnet haircut....

.....how was it for you?

Just reading another thread I've seen it either seems to be the best thing ever or a nightmare you can't wait to grow out.

Could you post a if you loved it or a if you didn't? Just interested in results of a quick poll.

Was a for me..... don't know if these silly short layers round my face will ever grow out

Hate going to the hairdressers and can't diy... just going to ignore my hair now and hope it looks good long. Lots of lippy to detract eyes from the hair.

for me, but I was very careful to leave it quite long.

Overall it's a :( here, but not really badly. It seems to leave the longest parts too long, and the shortest parts too short. My hair is very curly so thought I could get away with it if it wasn't perfect, it has grown out a bit now but the shortest layers are still too short to tie back, so if I'm not careful I look like I have a poodle balanced precariously on top of my head. Might do it again but longer, and then just take more off the back.

I have very curly hair too so have slowly done it little by little. There are some bits that are too short and other bits are too long but I'm confident enough to sort it out myself now. Has saved me a fortune!

you need to straighten it first and don't cut to much off.

I tried it- but I agree- the short was too short and the long too long. I wonder if I put the pony tail too far forward? What would happen if you put it sort of where a cheerleaders pony tail goes?

was great. Then I had it like this but it's grown out now and I'm curling it.

but the mumsnet cut was lovely. It made my hair look a bit thicker too. You do have to be careful though, if you don't get the ponytail exactly right - you'll screw up and it'll look a right bugger

well, for a couple of years anyway. Saved me an absolute fortune but I got sick to death of the look of it in the end.

I always did an adapted version though - first all the hair to the front and cut to jaw-ish length, the sectioned and cut again. Put the front out of the way in bunces, section at ear height, put everything below ear height in ponytail at the top of the section, pulled forward and cut at about fringe length. Then a wee section across the bottom at the back, in a ponytail at the top of the section, pull forward and cut again at about the height of my hairline. After all that I'd sort out my fringe freehand and maybe do a small section behind my fringe for layers around my face.

Is impossible to get any length off otherwise, unless you do it really short of course. My hair is fine and totally and utterly straight.

Double here for me and my DD. I also take care to leave the layers quite long. It's been my saviour after 30-odd years of crap haircuts (a la the 'why can't hairdressers cut curly hair' thread), and has already saved me about £150.

But I panicked at first because the short bit of my fringe kept sticking up, but some straighteners and gel spray soon sorted that.

I do prefer my layers longer, so usually go to the hairdressers but in times of need I would do it again, it's a very similar style to how I wear my hair anyway.

My hairdresser commented on it last time. He thought I'd been cheating on him, he was very impressed or lying to make me feel better about the fact that I looked like a 3yo had cut my hair

A very big for me. I have a round face and poker straight hair. BUT I do agree that the length of the longest layers is too long, so I put the pony tail on the crown of my head rather than nearer the forehead.

For me, my hair is just below shoulder length and I have a weird fear of going to the hairdressers. This has given me back some control!

for me dd1 and 2! I did all 3 of us and it was appalling. Still growing it out months later - never again!
