I have fine brown shoulder length brown hair, I want a fringe, I do not want to look like Sam Cam

It has been a long time since I have had a hairstyle I really liked. When I dress up to go out (not often enough!) my hair really let's me down. On a day to day basis it is pulled back into a ponytail/bun.
I had short hair, I've grown it to just beyond my shoulders and it looks OK, but I am now thinking I would like a fringe. Due to my fine, flat hair I think it needs to be reasonably rather than a few slighter shorter strands (previous efforts have been a bit like this).
Can anyone think of anyone with fine hair and a fringe that actually looks good?

Have you thought about a babyliss big hair to give it a bit more oomph?

I have a small head, big hair can make me look weird. I think I want to stick to straight and flat, just get it cut so it looks better. I think I need more round my face. These are the dull circles I go round and round in in my head

I just don't think fringes work on fine hair. They end up looking all straggly and separated like Amanda Holden's in that pic.

La Swift has lovely hair but it definitely doesn't look fine in that pic? The opposite if anything.

I think Taylor Swift often wears hairpieces, like many celebs do, to make hair look fuller.

Google Cameron Diaz and Kirsten Dunst.

I think Sam Cam has lovely hair.

Wow you are great. The thing I don't like about Sam Cam's hair is her husband the separated fringe, slightly middle parting thing which is why I thought a thicker fringe might work better...I like Reese Witherspoon's. Maybe I should go for a short crop...argh!!

You just need to get the hairdresser to take the hair from far enough back so that it's heavy enough not to be stringy or gappy.

If I could get away with it I would have a dead straight mini fringe. cut very short.

If you have fine hair, maybe try a side swept fringe first? I think these are easier to handle anyway, but if you would like a full fringe, I recommend you to buy some hair mouse to make your hair look thicker and fuller!

I think if your hair is fine AND dead straight, you will risk the stringy Sam Cam look. Waves and tousles look better.

Ooh I have that sort of hair and recently had it cut and I love it. (previously long for 15yrs and mostly in ponytail).

I have gone for side parting and a fullish fringe cut straight across. Do not go for centre-part feathered wispy fringe!
I have had the rest cut into a bob, about an inch below chin at front but going up shorter at back. Layer at back but not front. Style it in 5 mins.
It has made such a difference, it's all sleek and styled looking and for the first time my hair doesn't look thin!! (I did lots if research on the perfect bob style for fine hair)

I like Sams hair, i just think it needs to be a bit lighter (it looks too harsh) or maybe just a few tones and hi lites.

I did it! I got a fringe, I LOVE it, and the hairdresser showed me some good tips to stop it parting, it's working so far. I look really different, in a good way!

Alexa Chung doesn't have fine hair in my opinion,there's loads of it even if it is fine.... or at least not compared to mine. I love that long fringe with layers look. I can't decide if layers would thin out very fine hair but have learnt that a few different colours give the illusion of thicker hair.Pricey though.

hoppity what are the tips to stop it parting? Mine also flicks up on one side when it grows a bit. Any ideas?

Top tip: make sure the roots are wet, so if it has dried a bit since you got out of the shower etc then re-wet the roots. Then take a brush (she said one of those roll ones but I have just been using my normal paddle one and it works!) and blow dry your fringe as you brush it across to the left, then to the right, then to the left and then to the right and repeat until it is completely dry. This should mean that it dries straight without your natural 'parts'. I have a big cowlick on one side and it hasn't parted there once. It's only been a week to be fair but I can't believe how un-party it is. The only other thing I have done is to spray hair spray into my palms and then run them through my fringe.
I have done this every morning, even if I haven't washed my hair I have wet and dried my fringe

Is that too much detail, does it make sense? It takes no time. I am a fringe convert!!

OMG OP, I was just logging on to tell you don't do it because of the fine hair parting thing (which I also suffer from). But the drying thing sounds brilliant - I'll remember that in future if I ever take the plunge again. Thanks and enjoy your fabulous new fringe :)
