The Worst perfume ever!

Was in HOF today and as i have no money at the moment to spend (despite their sale) decided to cheer myself up with a spray ( or two) of their posh perfumes. Big Mistake- sprayed Serge lutyens Tuberose Criminale- and it was!!!! Well the smell was criminal- like camphor, moth balls mixed with wintergreen , that awful muscle rub stuff. Jesus wept and it lasts and lasts and lasts. Can't kill it off, despite Annick Goutal Ninfeo Mio on my other wrist. You have been warned.....Though i do dare you!!!

I found a cheapo foundation recently that instantly transported me back to the seventies and my mum's old Max Factor Panstick Grin. I loved it. I think it's wonderful how immediately smells evoke memories, even if, as I say, you don't necessarily need to smell like that yourself.

CointreauVersial · 16/10/2012 19:31

Tabac Blond got the thumbs down from me too. DS said I smelled like an "old house".

I guess I am trying to shake up my perfume choices, but I haven't fallen in love with any of my samples yet. I'm back with good old Hypnose today, and feel much more "me".

Haberdashery · 16/10/2012 21:10

Gucci Envy sadly discontinued goes sky high

Oh what a shame. I loved Envy.

squoosh · 16/10/2012 21:51

Thanks MrsArse it is now purchased, hopefully this bottle will arrive without any hiccups. Was unimpressed with Liberty as the email they sent thanked me for returning the product!

I too am sad Gucci Envy is gone, my Mum is bereft. How can that be discontinued while evil Angel flourishes.

MsArseBiscuit · 16/10/2012 22:13

Oh aye, I made an order with Liberty last month and it was like dealing with the Chuckle Brothers, only Barry and Paul would've been more efficient. The order from Amazon came within a day or two and arrived beautifully packaged in tissue paper and ribbon. There's no way I'd order from Liberty online again.

belsize77 · 16/10/2012 23:27

My samples arrived from the German company First in Fragrance. At 2.5 ml for 4 or 5 euro they are not bad value for the size. If you buy anything you also get 3 free samples of your choice. I also ordered this mega expensive room scent for my sister that is only sold in 3 places in the world (according to the Internet...) that she once smelt in Rome and has pined for ever since, the box is damaged despite an amazing level of over packaging. I sent them a photo and they have just emailed to say they will immediately send me another. I only say this as the other place in Europe that sells this stuff is Liberty who after the rudeness of their customer service team I refused to buy it from. For the poster who asked about an orange blossom scent for her daughter who loved Seville I would have to say I was disappointed by Seville a l'Aube - nice but only lasted about half an hour on me. Baghari by Piguet smells really close to Chanel 5 Imho. Rubj that Donna recommended was lovely but rather hard to describe, the rest I haven't tried yet.

MysteriousHamster · 17/10/2012 00:23

I received my Diptyque samples - Philosykos and L'Ombre Dans L'eau.

I really like Philosykos and think I will try to get a bigger sample or perhaps a roll on or travel spray (can't afford big bottle at the moment). Love the fig small, it's warm, comforting yet fresh.

Wasn't as fond of L'Ombre as I hoped - it went a bit sour on me quite quickly and I have other scents with rose in that I prefer.

I want to try some L'artisan fragrances next - maybe Vanille and Tea for Two as samples are on eBay. Really like the sound of the Saville one but not sure where to get samples from.

But what next, what next? Am also tempted by LES GRANDES PRETRESSES INCAS ROMEA D'AMEOR - has anyone tried this? It has a lot of notes from mandarin to mango, to jasmine to chocolate.

Semi-tempted by Paestum Rose as well but I have so much Rose already!

I fancy something warm and spicy yet still feminine - any recs?

MysteriousHamster · 17/10/2012 00:25

Seville not Saville, damn it!

squoosh · 17/10/2012 00:27

Eau de Saville sounds a bit unsavoury alright!

MysteriousHamster · 17/10/2012 00:50

Ew, can you imagine, sweat and malice and gold plate.

squoosh · 17/10/2012 00:56

With a top note of Cover Up.

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/10/2012 05:30

And a strong tobacco base note.

Pinot · 18/10/2012 09:57

frantic re: your Mum ans Mitsouko, please check your inbox :)

UltraBOF · 18/10/2012 11:34

Oh MmeOvary, the Molecule One arrived today- thank you SO MUCH. I'm dying to try it Smile

MadameOvary · 18/10/2012 14:54

Oh good. Hope you like it. Smile

atacareercrossroads · 18/10/2012 18:24

well, in my eternal quest to find a perfume the same as Lou Lou Blue Ive lost £30 :o(

Well, not really, I bought Lolita Lempicka from the internet at a pretty good price, and it is nice, but its not Lou Lou Blue. Its not anise-y enough and a bit too sweet smelling. Again I cant put my finger on it but its missing something.

So thats Armani Code (which seems to be the closest so far), LolitaLempicka and Alien that Ive tried in my quest. If I could mix them all together id probably have Lou Lou Blue!

harbingerofdoom · 18/10/2012 20:29

belsize77 thanks for the heads up on the Seville a l'Aube perfume.
I'm very tempted to order from this German company. I have had several samples from Les Senteurs but havn't found the 'one'. I have lots of number twos and one that I dissliked.

YouOldSlag · 18/10/2012 21:08

This quote is from Basenotes, from a thread started by a woman asking for a close alternative to LouLou Blue

"For the Loulou Blue - try Dolce and Gabanna's 10, and D&Gs The One; Givency's Amarige; or Lolita Lempicka's Fleur de Corail. YSL's Cinema (too powdery?); Fcuk Her; Unforgivable Woman by Sean John (could be too fruity); ange ou démon by Givenchy. EDIT: A late thought - consider Encre Noir Pour Elle by Lalique, too.

Some other alternatives:

Wild Musk - Shalimar !; Prada's L'eau Ambree; Acqua di Parma's Blue Mediterranean (or something like that- can't remember the name)

Coco: Kenzo's Jungle L'Elephant; Largerfeld's KL

Chamade: Lempicka's Forbidden Flower ?"

atacareercrossroads · 19/10/2012 08:55

Yos I'm going to print that off and try them all ! Have got LL on today and it is quite nice but its def not Lou Lou blue

YouOldSlag · 19/10/2012 09:35

Happy to help. I'm the same with discontinued Gucci Envy. Why do they do this? it can't just be poor sale figures! Gucci Envy was highly regarded and stocked everywhere.

squoosh · 19/10/2012 10:42

So my bottle of Molecules 01 arrived yesterday. I'm a bit nonplussed by it. The reviews at Cult Beauty say it's the most amazing perfume ever. Apparently some people can't smell this on themselves, I can. To me it's perfectly nice but nothing special. It just smells like cedar, all day long.

It reminds me of a hardware shop (which I actually love the smell of) but it doesn't seem particularly special.

To cheer myself up I've just purchased a sample of Narciso Rodriquez's EDP. Smile

MsArseBiscuit · 19/10/2012 11:47

Squoosh, I wouldn't have said it was the most amazing perfume ever but I do like it very much. I am relieved to have encountered someone else who loves the smell of hardware shops, I thought it was just me ( I like the really old fashioned ones in particular ).

squoosh · 19/10/2012 12:00

Oh yes, it's got to be the old fashioned hardware shops, B&Q doesn't really do it for me, it's the mix of wood and turps and metal. Delicious.

I've just had a poke around the Surrender to Chance website and purchased samples of the following.

Annick Goutal Eau de Hadrien EDT
Byredo Tulipe
Chanel Coromandel (Les Exclusifs)
Chanel Sycomore (Les Exclusifs)
Diptyque Philosykos
Diptyque Volutes EDP

And now I am stepping away from any further perfume purchases for the time being!

coffeeinbed · 19/10/2012 13:01

I love anything cedar.

Haberdashery · 19/10/2012 16:52

I adore the smell of hardware shops. Also, new rubber plimsolls and hot tar on the road.
