Straw!!!!!
Never used it before but believed the ads - I swear it has never looked dryer!!

Any one recommend a product to turn my locks from straw to silk?

Pantene consistently recommended as one of the best cheap products.
I agree-makes my hair look very smooth and shiny.

hermykne · 19/03/2006 13:15

i have to say i never was seduced by loreal but my sister got loads of freebie s for a press thing she was doing and passed them over to me, i am impressed their conditioners are great, the pink one in a wee tub is brilliant on my highlighted hair, that is like straw without conditioner.

littlerach · 19/03/2006 13:15

The blue bottle, VO5, I think.

TinyGang · 19/03/2006 13:15

I use Tresemme and I think it could be drying my hair out too. I've been thinking of changing to something else, so will watch this thread.

2Happy · 19/03/2006 13:15

Another vote for Pantene here!

Radley · 19/03/2006 13:16

I love John Frieda products, my hair hasn't looked this good in ages.

puff · 19/03/2006 13:16

I like Redken - not particularly cheap, but a little goes a long way

Mum2OneAndOneMore · 19/03/2006 13:17

I used Tresemme once & it was awful my hair was like straw... have never used it again, i like loreal (pink one here too) or i just use head & shoulders because for some reason it totally agrees with my hair & levaes it all soft & shiny!

snafu · 19/03/2006 13:18

I've been using Tresemme for a while now and it's fine - however I have been liberally using the leave-in conditioner as well, so maybe that's why.

Pantene always dries my hair out. Sorry, I'm not being very helpful, am I? Grin

snafu · 19/03/2006 13:18

Head & Shoulders is supposed to be good.

canadianmum · 19/03/2006 13:18

I am using tresemme too - so THAT's why I have looked like a scarecrow for the past few weeks!!!

Anyway else buy it because it was 2 for 1 at Boots???

Back to Pantene and Aussie for me......:)

(do I just throw the tresemme away or keep using it occasionally until it's gone - hmmmmmm?)

Tinker · 19/03/2006 14:03

Tresemme fine here too except I only wash my hair once per week, maybe why? Blush

spidermama · 19/03/2006 14:10

That's interesting 4blue1pink because when I used it for the first time last week my hair looked like I'd washed it in pure vegetable oil. Minging! Either way it's hardly salon style is it?

spidermama · 19/03/2006 14:11

I bought something called TGel for greasy hair and now my hair is so static it sticks to my head as if I've wrapped cling film around it.

I'm having a very bad time with hair products at the moment. I'll be looking out for advice.

spidermama · 19/03/2006 14:12

Perhaps I'm not Worth It. Wink

Lmccrean · 19/03/2006 14:14

pantene and tresemme are both supposed to be dreadful for your hair, according to a few hairdressers Ive talked to. but Ive used pantene ever since I was 9 and my hairs ok.

Saything that, I tried a new one this morning by Faith In Nature \link{http://www.bloomingbabies.com/shop/index.php3?formaction=catdisplay&categoryID=628\the tea tree ones} and hairs looking well

Kelly1978 · 19/03/2006 14:18

trevor sorbie. It's on 3 for 2 atm, I need to stock up. I have dry hair, too much colouring and straightening. They do a sleek and straight variety.
Boots also do an own brand smoothing gel, can't remember what it is called, but it is orange. I use that to smooth it down without making it sticky or greasy.

Lucycat · 19/03/2006 14:19

another vote for good old Head and Shoulders.

myalias · 19/03/2006 14:21

Used my dh head & shoulders for men shampoo the other day and my hair looked fab - had quite a few comments. Must admit I was a bit worried when I looked at the label and realised it was for men only. I half expected to see a receding hairline after towel drying. Have just bought the new john frieda straight hair shampoo and conditioner so will give that a bash later.

TinyGang · 19/03/2006 14:26

My hair seems to get greasy looking very quickly, then looks totally dried out when I've washed it. It must be the tresemme then. I just can't seem to get it looking nice atm.

Spider - I tried some TGel when I caught Impetigo from the kids and got it on my scalp. (Oh the joys of being a mumSad) It was horrible stuff; so thick like glue and smelt of garden fences...sort of like creosote. I think that must've been the coal tar in it. Yuk.

red37 · 19/03/2006 14:26

tresemme is crap!
Being a hairdresser, I would never recommend there products.
tell a lie only there vitamin spray, I would recommend, that for holidays.

TinyGang · 19/03/2006 15:43

Red - help! Tell us what's good that you'd recommend (and affordableWink)

GDG · 19/03/2006 15:45

Oh no!! I find it makes my hair really nice!

janeite · 19/03/2006 17:29

Aussie 3 minute miracle is FAB for straw like hair. Am seriously addicted to it. Snells like bubble gum though.

janeite · 19/03/2006 17:29

Smells rather, not snells!!
