Straw!!!!!
Never used it before but believed the ads - I swear it has never looked dryer!!

Any one recommend a product to turn my locks from straw to silk?

pantene good. though friend whose hair was very shiny the other day told me she'd just started using tresemme (hers is quite fine though)

expatinscotland · 19/03/2006 17:34

redkin 'so soft' range.

CatBert · 19/03/2006 17:45

Oh but the ABOSLUTE WORST hair product I have EVER EVER used, is that flipping Oragnics stuff (as advertised nauseatingly often when watching desperate housewives)... It was buy one get one free in Tescos and I thought "OK" and have chucked it all away as my hair was worse than when using Tresemme!!!!!!!!!!!

SleepyJess · 19/03/2006 17:48

Herbal Essences. You get an orgasm too so can't be bad all things considered...

Whizzz · 19/03/2006 18:00

John Frieda products - transformed my hair !

SleepyJess · 19/03/2006 18:02

Tresemme are indeed a bit pissy and dire IMO. Their straigheners (ceramic, £20 from Argos) are great though. Very much like GHDs.

intergalacticwalrus · 19/03/2006 18:07

I really like Tresemme shampoo and conditioner. I hate Pantene and Herbal Esseb=nces is ok in small doses.

Dove shampoo is good too.

radida · 19/03/2006 20:05

Spidermama,

I had that too with Tgel, it seems to be great at easing an itchy scalp, but not great for the way your hair looks afterwards. If you need a product for greasy hair, try a gentle shampoo, and a light conditioner, one of my friends swears by Herbal Essences. Pantene and lots of the L'Oreal ones, such as Nutrilium and Long Hair (orange and pink bottles) have loads of conditioners and silicones in them and can overcondition greasy hair. Maybe try some others and see?

Twinkie1 · 19/03/2006 20:08

Is shite and makes you itch everywhere too - I had 2 patches of dry skin come up after using it an dhad to resoprt to steroids!!

4blue1pink · 19/03/2006 20:09

lol spidermama - wish we could have seen you!

Don't throw out these shampoos! Recycle them by using them as handwash or to wash your car.

Calista · 19/03/2006 20:13

I swap and change shampoos and conditioners like they're going out of fashion, always have done.

But have been using Herbal Essences (the fruit fusions range) for a couple of months now, it's absolutely fab for my hair. Leaves it really soft and shiny, and it is quite heavily highlighted and gets frequently straightened. Smells delicious too.

Worst one I've ever used is that Garnier Fructis range, my hair was greasy and lank after I'd washed it. Awful stuff.

Naughtynoonoo · 19/03/2006 20:21

Started using Redken "So Soft" in November and never looked back, after 35 years of god knows what. Also use tigi purble bottle to protect from heat. Less is more and even though it is expensive it last yonks.

ScummyMummy · 19/03/2006 20:39

Aussie 3 minute miracle conditioner is good.

crazydazy · 19/03/2006 20:42

I got bed head conditioner which cost £10 and was absolute rubbish!!

I like John Frieda for Blondes, makes your hair smell lovely.

Gingerbear · 19/03/2006 20:50

Tresemme = industrial strenght paint stripper!
Get thee some Keratase woman!

red37 · 19/03/2006 21:45

John Freida products are fab.

sanchpanch · 19/03/2006 21:50

Loreal elvive i swap between the orange bottle for 1 month, then the pink bottle,
My hair is bleached, and all hairdressers always say what good condition my hair is, its is lovely to use

emmared1980 · 22/03/2006 11:07

Hi, if you've got coloured hair stay away from Head & shoulders/ tgel or any medicated shampoo it will strip your colour out! Pantene/organics/fructus and 2 in 1's coat your hair with silicone and can sometimes cause itching on your scalp. Thay also can stop your colours/perms from not taking properly. Go into your salon and ask them for advice. I'm a hairdresser and we use Elgon products which are really good, also Paul Mitchell are lovely.I know in a salon I used to work in with Paul Mitchell if you bought a product and didn't get on with it you could return it and swap for a different product, that was a few years ago so I dont know if thats still the case.

mythumbelinas · 22/03/2006 11:24

I've been using tresemme (special offer) and my hair has been fine .. i've used pantene before .. same results, and loreal before that .. not much difference, so i don't have an outstanding choice, nor a bad one!
hmm not much help

Marina · 22/03/2006 11:25

I use Aveda and Biolage Matrix products on my hair and it looks good at the moment.
Of the big brands, I've always liked Charles Worthington and Aussie best.
Don't get on at all with John Frieda or Toni and Guy products.

bundle · 22/03/2006 11:30

bought some frizz ease (boots 3 for 2) on way home last night, like their serum it calms my mad, thick hair down a treat.

oliveoil · 22/03/2006 11:35

The frizz ease hair shampoo and condition called Straight and Sleek (or something) is good too.

I have Jekel and Hyde hair, curly one day, then hmmmm maybe I will be wavy, then oh straight day today.

Bizarre.

bundle · 22/03/2006 11:36

mine too olive, i actually quite like mine about 4-days-post-washing..(I got the sleek n straight one..in my dreams!}

oliveoil · 22/03/2006 11:37

oh no, I have to wash mine every day or AT LEAST every other.

I had tons chopped off recently and am slightly regretting it as my ponytail is now about 1cm instead of swishy!
