White spot's Beads under my skin

Ok.... So what are they?????...Is it something in product's???? More to the point What causes them and how do i get rid of them... Tiny little white beads under my skin on my face...
Please share your wealth of information with me....

White Spots here's some info about them. They are the same things that babies get, but baby ones seem to disappear on their own, in adults though they are a bit harder to get rid of.

They are keratin spots, known as milia.

If I get one, I squeeze it and then the next day the little white thing will come out. You're no doubt not supposed to squeeze them, but if I don't, they don't go.

I thought mine were milia but when I went to get them looked at, the therapist said they were actually called sebaceous dysplasia (not sure what the difference is, mind). She attacked them with her diathermy tool (I think it uses an electric current to create heat to take the top off so that what's inside can be squeezed out, ewwwww). Totally painless and then each one scabbed over for a day then went away. I would be too squeamish to start squeezing them myself (and I say that as an enthusiastic squeezer!).

Oh. So when I picked at mine with a safety pin that was wrong then?

I have these, mostly on my chest. GP says that they are harmless and called them "idiopathic cystoma multiplex" - basically, lots of little cysts, we don't know why you've got them.

Jodie has a thread running on this at the moment - I wonder if they're the same thing?

I have acquired 3 of these this week too. one in the middle of my cheek.

Years ago when I had one, a beautician did get it out with a pin - it is a little hard white ball rather than a white head isn't it?

I'm not sure that is advisable, but I can't really leave mine in the middle of my cheek! (have another one on my forehead and one on my eyelid too). I am assuming it is to do with excess grease production or something nice like that.

Thank you all...It is in deed a little white ball thing... Magnifying mirror's have a lot to answer for!!! I'm sure it must be something in the product's .... Someone told me they were a age thing!!!! Not happy to settle with that though... Beautician's are going to charge a little ransom are they not??? the pin thing is probably the route i will try... but i've got a few so probably better not do them all in one go

Yep, therapist told me it was "an age thing" . Oh Christ, the thought of going at them with a safety pin makes me feel a little sick. Am clearly more squeamish than I thought. Be careful not to get them infected if you're going down the home treatment route!

A dermatologist told me recently they are caused by using the wrong type of moisturiser for your skin and/or excessive use of moisturiser. She also said never to squeeze, but to use a sterilised pin to pop them out as others on here have mentioned. HTH :)

I have one under my eye, where I have dark circles. I am a beauty :o

I have several around my eyes. They are hereditary and are linked to cholesterol. Apparently you can get them removed with some form of plastic surgery....

I'm sure someone told me (probably a beauty therapist) after a facial the name of the certain ingredient that caused them... But my Baby brain forgot what it was... would love to know so i can look out for it in products...

Sharp fine sewing needle (not a great fat safety pin, honestly?)

Go in sideways and put a nick in the hard coat of the spot.

Squeeze very gently, hook waxy core out with needle.

They heal really easily, I think they are trapped skin secretion not puss. So they don't get infected and sore.

I get them where my glasses meet my cheeks or on my forehead occasionally.

Easy to spot because the tough surface means they won't squeeze even with idiotic amounts of force. Some just bleed round the core if you try. If this happens core will lift out sweetly with the end of a needle. Why you can't get them to squeeze once you have broken the top is a mystery.

Hot flannel - sterilised needle and very carefully have a poke and GENTLY squeeze - they pop out like a gain of sand or tiny seed.

I am actually going to have to stop reading this thread now. All this talk of needles and hooking out waxy cores, gaaaah! ^^

Agree with startail above. I've had one or two of these but my DP gets them quite regularly and I friggin love picking them. I'm disgusting like that though

Exactly what Startail said. I was once told that they can be caused by a lack of Vitamin A. I used some ROC moisturiser with Vit A for a while after I had removed them and didn't get any more.
However, the Vit A in the cream turned my fingertips and skin around my nails yellow, like a forty-a-day smoker!

I've had these all my life - even as a teenager before I used moisturiser. I use the old pin method.

I'm another pin user, quite very satisfying to pop them out. The area can hurt a little bit afterwards, like bruised, but it goes away and doesn't leave any scars. So far anyway!

The pin thing works but I can rarely be bothered, but what I do is just scrape at the top of them with a fingernail - not hard, but firmly. Doesn't look/feel like it's doing anything, but keep doing 2/3 times a day, and after a few days the top will lift off and you can squeeze the white stuff out.

God I love mumsnet. I've got one on my cheek. Its been there a few weeks and I have been seriously fretting... Tomorrow I am raiding my sewing box and I shall get picking!

I have one which appeared a couple of years ago; it's in a very awkward place, on my eyelid, almost in the corner of my eye. Really annoying. It will have to go.

I think they are cholestrol related. they do pop out like a seed if you prick em just right though.
