Doc Marten boots - are these terrible, or can you still wear them?

EdMcDunnough · 06/09/2012 11:04

I grew up in 8 hole black DMs and at the time there was nothing else good enough.

Today I saw a pair of longer ones in a shop - very very cheap, and my size - and I bought them as when I put them on, they were so comfy it was wonderful.

But I am worried about looking, well, like a sad middle aged loser Grin

I'm planning on doing the yellow stitching black, because I hate that, and not letting the labels show - thinking of wearing with tights and dress or shortish skirt.

I am 39 (just) but apparently look much younger and if it's relevant, am a 10 and have longish hair I wear up and the rest of my clothes are pretty demure/dark/autumny colours, nothing barmy.

So what do you think? Should I just take them back?

No keep them, I am 35 and I have dm flip flops for summer and boots for winter! Its a win win, I am currently hankering after one of the pairs in the new range!

I. Love doc martens and lived in them in the 90's and now!

EdMcDunnough · 06/09/2012 11:09

If anyone is interested it was TKMaxx and they were 39.99, black ones, down from about 150-odd? Shock can't believe they are that much.

morethanyoubargainfor · 06/09/2012 11:26

That's a really good price! The ones I want are 145, sadly don't think they will be reduced this side of winter! Bet they haven't got any in tk max either.

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 06/09/2012 11:27

Wow! They never have owt in my size in TK Maxx Sad

CumberdickBendybatch · 06/09/2012 11:31

Oh god, I want some too. I've only got my old purple ones and I can't wear those.. can't quite let myself get them though, am worried about looking like a twat.

Can't believe the price of them now though, DM's cost £40, always did Wink

£100? Shock

EdMcDunnough · 06/09/2012 11:32

I never found any Bloch ballet flats in ours, hope that makes you feel better Sad Smile

I have been waiting years

There were only two pairs - a woman picked up the other pair to try on just as I'd wandered off to think about it, and I saw her with them and thought 'Oh no!' so grabbed the other pair quickly. Smile

She looked about 50, I have to say. The kids have no chance round here Grin

Northumberlandlass · 06/09/2012 11:41

I'm not keen on the patterned ones, but DM's rock!!

CumberdickBendybatch · 06/09/2012 11:42

Woo! I've just found my black 8-hole steel toe caps in the back of the cupboard! GrinGrin
(bought because the front doesn't go flat)

TunipTheVegemal · 06/09/2012 11:43

I think they will look very nice with the look you describe.

EdMcDunnough · 06/09/2012 11:47

thankyou Smile

Glad you got some too, Gobblers! and Cumberdick that's a result Smile

They are not something I would wear but I think they look very cool on some people. I don't think you will look like a sad loser at all - quite the opposite in fact!

Oakmaiden · 06/09/2012 11:49

I used to love my old DMs.

I've tried to replace them, but all the ones I have seen since have that dreadful seam across the tongue of the boot. It is uncomfy. And they have binding around the top, instead of just cut leather.

I want some like my old ones. :(

EdMcDunnough · 06/09/2012 11:56

These have got just cut leather at the top. Not sure about the seam, will have a look.

Hmm, no seams I can see...but I would never pay £152 for them. I wonder if TKM have them on the website?

I got my DD a pair last weekend they were £85 for a size 3, shiney White.I was tempted to get myself a pair but had no money left, I loved all the different colours.I remember the day when they were only available in safari green !!!.Very fashionable for the Autumn, I've also seen lots of cheaper versions but not sure what the quality is like.Wear them with pride, I think they look fab !!

I'm 53. A respectable mother/lecturer. I do not look like a goth or a hippy. I have far too many pairs of docs, in varying styles and colours. I am warm and dry in winter, I do not slip in the snow, I do not get sore feet.
I love my docs.

Faylalu · 06/09/2012 14:46

I love my DM's grew up in them and they saved me on many a winters/festival day. No one it too old for them.
