Doc Marten boots - are these terrible, or can you still wear them?

I grew up in 8 hole black DMs and at the time there was nothing else good enough.

Today I saw a pair of longer ones in a shop - very very cheap, and my size - and I bought them as when I put them on, they were so comfy it was wonderful.

But I am worried about looking, well, like a sad middle aged loser Grin

I'm planning on doing the yellow stitching black, because I hate that, and not letting the labels show - thinking of wearing with tights and dress or shortish skirt.

I am 39 (just) but apparently look much younger and if it's relevant, am a 10 and have longish hair I wear up and the rest of my clothes are pretty demure/dark/autumny colours, nothing barmy.

So what do you think? Should I just take them back?

They are wonderful boots, I Stoll have 10 year old ones. I also have army surplus kit boots though, so I am a little biased. Also a lit of FABULOUS heels though, don't know why clumpy boots speak, but I love them!

I love my docs and I'm 40
My mum borrowed them when we went for a walk last winter and loved them. She said she felt like she'd instantly developed 'attitude.' Grin

I only wear DMs. I have black, blue and purple boots and some work shoes. My job requires me to wear flat, black, very comfortable shoes, and flat, black, lace-up DM shoes are the most comfortable shoes ever and last for years. I am not remotely fashionable and don't care whether it is 'ok' for 30yr olds to still wear them, but I help at a Guide unit and 13yr old girls tell me they are cool.

Well if anyone is interested, TKM have now got them online - but only in the knee high version, with the inside zip. They have got oxblood, black and grey ones.
