Wolford tights - are they really worth the money?

Back to school next week and I need to restock my tights drawer! At 5'9" and a size 18, I really struggle to find decent opaque tights that actually stay up. I find M&S tights hopeless and haven't really investigated elsewhere but the 'wolford' name seems to regularly crop up on this site. Would their XL or XXL fit? Are they worth the money? TIA

I Love mine- I buy them in the sales or outlets and they are great. Wash really well and keep their shape. Am gradually adding to my collection and will dump the cheaper ones!

Finbar · 30/08/2012 18:18

also - Falke cotton velvet touch tights are a good (cheaper) substitute!

noddyholder · 30/08/2012 18:19

Yes they are as are falke

MarshaBrady · 30/08/2012 18:19

Yes they're good.

MarshaBrady · 30/08/2012 18:20

Also worth stocking up in a sale.

Finbar · 30/08/2012 18:21

Would advise going onto the Wolford site to check their sizing guide

Bluestocking · 30/08/2012 18:22

Yes, they are worth the money. I have a pair of lacy black wool Wolford tights that I have had for well over twenty years.

I love WOlford tights. When I was working that's all I wore. I still have them in my draws upstairs

doglover · 30/08/2012 18:36

Right, thanks. Looks like I'll need to saving up ...............

I love them. They are better value than, say, M&S because they last for simply years. My black opaques lasted for four years, I think.

Wonder what their leggings are like?

Springhasarrived · 30/08/2012 19:03

I would agree and dont buy anything else. Just to warn you though, I have bought quite a few pairs of their seconds at Bicester outlet village. At first they were fine but the last few pairs I've bought have been dreadful so I will be going for full price "firsts" from now on.

Lilymaid · 30/08/2012 19:04

I like the Velvet deluxe (?) tights which wear well - and are good if you are somewhat curvy! Not sure of sizing - I am only 5' 4" and buy large, so XL may be better for someone taller.
Marks & Spencers Autograph opaque tights were almost as good a couple of years ago, but am not sure whether they still are.

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/08/2012 19:41

I have some black opaques that I have had for years - pre kids, and DD1 is nearly 14!

MrsRogerSterling · 30/08/2012 22:30

Try Tabio here. great quality and huge selection of colours and denier.

girlsofsummer · 31/08/2012 01:11

love wolford - great if you can get on sale.

RagingDull · 31/08/2012 01:27

just marking place....

mirpuppet · 31/08/2012 09:23

Where do you get on sale? I went to wolford shop and only ones on sale were very weird patterns.

MarshaBrady · 31/08/2012 09:25

I usually get them from Net a Porter in their sale.

notjustamummythankyou · 31/08/2012 10:58

How do you lot manage to make your tights last for years?! Whether I spend £3 or £30, mine only ever last one or two wears, including Wolford. Must be my strangely pointed feet. hides claws

PineappleBed · 31/08/2012 11:01

Do any of these brands do decent flesh colour tights?

Sorry to hijack...

Turquoiseblue · 31/08/2012 11:03

Yes they are worth it Wink

NickECave · 31/08/2012 11:16

I find that my toes poke holes in the ends of my tights after a few wears (I do keep my toenails clipped short - honest!). I'm too scared to spend £20 on a pair of Wolfords in case it still happens. Is there anyone who has had this problem with ordinary tights but found it doesn't happen with expensive brands?

DameDoom · 02/09/2012 17:56

They are indestructable and last years. I threw some 5 year velvet deluxes out cos' I splashed bleach on them - if that hadn't happened I'm sure I would still have them. I always put them on my Xmas list.
