Wolford tights - are they really worth the money?

Back to school next week and I need to restock my tights drawer! At 5'9" and a size 18, I really struggle to find decent opaque tights that actually stay up. I find M&S tights hopeless and haven't really investigated elsewhere but the 'wolford' name seems to regularly crop up on this site. Would their XL or XXL fit? Are they worth the money? TIA

You could try TK Maxx.

I almost fainted at the cost of Falke socks. I bought a pair for around 3 quid in TK Maxx last year. I can't afford to pay full price at the rate that I lose one sock etc !

Yep another fan here - only buy Falke and Wolford now - once I tried them nothing else would do.

I've got Wolford tights still going strong that I bought in the 80s Shock

Yes... that is 30 year old tights!

Sleepwhenidie · 02/09/2012 22:26

Wolford opaques, yes definitely worth it, winter logic ones are heavenly...sheers however, at least if you are clumsy like me, probably not as they will still ladder almost as easily as other brands and it really puts a downer on your day when it happens to a new pair you just shelled out £20 for!

Oooh, ooh! I have been having a clear out and have found a pair of orange opaque Wolford tights, still in the packet, purchased in Vienna in 1989.

I am not sure that I have anything suitable to wear them with these days. And am wondering if I did then, as they would not be in the packet if I did?

Pammym · 02/09/2012 22:29

Yes absolutely. They are the comfiest tights ever and are v. hard-wearing. I was trying on a pair of boots last autumn and got the zip caught in my Wolford opaques. After much tugging, the zip came free and the tights had barely a snag! Would not be without them.

EldritchCleavage · 02/09/2012 22:30

Yes yes, a thousand times yes (for the thicker styles, at least). The only brand that has ever bettered them for looking good and lasting ages was Calvin Klein-my sister bought me some of their opaques in the US. Wolford tops and bodies are also great.

can you get wolford online??

but dont they cost about £70 !!

Tights going strong after 30 years?! How do you do it??

Tights last me one wear, and socks perhaps one winter.

chops off feet and installs wheels instead

Some of the discount sites (eg Brandalley) occasionally sell discounted Wolford. Im too cheap to buy them full price.

I wouldn?t expect sheer tights to last from anywear including Wolford. Instead I prefer nude coloured fishnet, honeycomb etc tights that look a bit like bare legs but are both warmer and stronger. The hold ups last longer than the tights IME as you often get holes from pulling them up around waist.

JRsandCoffee · 05/09/2012 18:43

Yes! Although I prefer Falke for wooly ones - their merino ones are FAB!
