I am going to the end of year university ball. Again.

I am 5'3" and size 16/18. Big norks, fat tummy, nice legs. I don't wear heels. So over the whole ball gown thing. Am afraid I will look like a bit fat ugly frump.

I live in Hull mostly. The dress sounds nice Smile

Coast is beautiful but I think maybe a bit too expensive (and am I too fat Blush)

Was thinking nice fluffy skirt (monsoon?) ballet shoes and plain top?

but lovley

gpt my dres sin wardrobe waiting

Smurfgirl · 15/03/2006 18:27

Nailpolish hire is usually about £90! I went once to a hire shop and she kept going on about how bigger girls needed dark colours blah blahhhhh. I like some of the princples ones, but def need structure to hide tummy.

Cod I can't afford £180 on a dress. They have some lovely skirts but £100 is far too much for me!

Not being funny - but what about second hand shop or vintage stall (like Camden Lock) or charity shop. How long have you got to keep looking? Or ebay? What about ebay?

Smurfgirl · 15/03/2006 18:33

Would like to do outfit for about £80...

beetroot · 15/03/2006 19:27

have started you a thread

cod · 15/03/2006 19:28

i was wondering that too

NotQuiteCockney · 15/03/2006 19:36

Oh, I have something maybe.

I'm not the same build as you at all, but was 18 when wore ballgowns.

Will look at options.

NotQuiteCockney · 15/03/2006 19:38

I do still have something.

White skirt, layers. Starts empiry, if I remember rightly.

Top is black, deepish V in front, very deep V in back, net sorts of sleeves. Sequins etc. Black beads hanging down over white bits, iyswim.

Not sure about length, will check where it comes to on me.

Deepish V would be quite alarming with big norks, but possibly in a good way?

NotQuiteCockney · 15/03/2006 19:38

Would be ok with flats, I'd think. Ballet shoes etc.

NotQuiteCockney · 15/03/2006 19:38

Let me know if this appeals, I can take a picture of it for you.

Smurfgirl · 15/03/2006 19:41

Picture would be lovely! So kind!

Have you tried hiring one?
Got details of a hire firm from yellow pages one year - had a huge selection - maybe worth a try.
