Best nail polish colour for short nails?

I have cut and filed them short and now want to paint them. I have a lot of colours, most of which don't suit me so some ideas would be good please.

I had a lovely mushroom colour put on after my last manicure. Looked much nicer than it sounds.

I've tried for yeeeeeeeers to grow my nails (a biter!). With the help of false nails over the top of my bitten ones I've managed to grow them and don't seem to have the urge to bite anymore! I can't believe it!

I have never knowingly been in fashion and it makes life easier!

DD now has sparkly silver glitter. DS2 has gold nails.

I remember when French manicures were classy.
That was a long, long time ago.
Now I like beigey mushroomy pale brown colours on my picked at and bitten stylishly short nails.

JustFabulous - I'm not really into fashion but it's been the years of hard work put into not biting so I wanted to show them off.

I can't get used to nails and keep scratching myself. Perhaps I should wear scratch mits???

I am off work for a week and have short red nails for the first time ever.
I like it!
For work I think a minky beige is nice, even with a tiny bit of sparkle. I have a lovely shade like this by urban decay.

I am now sporting Miracle Plum on my nails.

I can play with the Try it on section here for hours!

oh i like french manicures on short nails. i am presuming that is what they are called? clear colour with a tinsy bit of white on the tip?, not pointed and not huge white bits. very natural looking. i like that look. nice and clean. like it on toes too.

A lot of mums at the school have false nails and they are clearly false. IMO they look awful, why do people like the fake look?

And you can get natural looking fake ones, why go for the cheap look? .

Yeah, but a proper french manicure doesn't look like anything has been done. Just natural, clean and tidy as if the person was wearing clear varnish on perfect nails, unless you really stare. Haven't seen owt like that for years.

Bright deep blue looked surprisingly good on mine. Normally I opt for something very pale (they aren't even long enough for white tips).

Bright red is hopeless, I have very small hands and I just look like a little girl who has stolen Mummy's nail varnish.

That's not a good look when you're 44

MrsLetuce - that looks awful. In the top picture the nails actually look dirty!

The first ones looked like normal nails, painted.

The mums at school have clearly false nails with loooong white square tips.

JustFabulous - I wore false nails to stop me biting mine and out of all the methods I tried this is the only thing that has worked so far. 2 months after removing falsies with no biting now!

I cut them down after glueing them on though as I couldn't pick anything up! And they often pinged off at the most innapropriate moments.

oh nothruroad how did I not know that existed? I love OPI nail varnish.
