How do you wear your bras?

BedHeadTigi · 25/08/2012 18:44

Do you like to wear them super tight so you know they are there and leave bra marks when you take them off, or have them at a looser more comfortable setting? Im asking this because i have realised all of my old bras are pretty super tight on me, but my new ones are so comfortable and no way as tight but i wonder if they will still support my bust the same?

Oh no, gypsyfloss, NOT what I want to hear!
I am ridiculously excited about my brastop order - they must fit.

Aaaargh!

SorrelForbes · 02/09/2012 20:49

Hi Gypsy - going purely on the measurements you've given here I'd suggest a 28E. I think Bra Stop carry some t-shirt bras in that (and similar sizes).

SorrelForbes · 02/09/2012 20:50

Haunted - I've always measured wearing a bra (non padded) and those measurements work for me.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/09/2012 20:55

There is definitely a bit of trial and error in the overbust measurement. On me different bras make a huge difference - so something like my Bravissimo Demi Diva makes my boobs stick out less, but much 'taller' and quite rounded, where as an Alana or a Kris line makes them protrude from my chest a lot more, but in a more pointed shape. Going on how clothes fit over them I'd guess it probably makes a good 2-3 inch difference in my measurement but I may be a bit weird in that respect??

gypsyfloss · 02/09/2012 20:59

pacific the bras were fine just not right for me and the delivery was super quick. I'll have another go with a 28E as suggested by Sorrel. Should I also add a slightly bigger back size? If so do I keep the same cup size or go down?

SorrelForbes · 02/09/2012 21:06

Yes, you could order a 30DD too. As Statistically says, there is so much difference between brands and styles.

MotherOfNations · 02/09/2012 21:28

Thought I'd join this thread to tell you about a great bra shop I just discovered called boux avenue. They have a great website too if there isn't one near you. I spent £130 in there last weekend but they do a loyalty card similar to the boots one so I was able to justify it to myself.

Willowme · 02/09/2012 21:44

Been wearing a 34B for years, just measured myself and apparently I'm more like a 30D?! Under bust 29 and bust 34, am I right?

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/09/2012 21:46

I'd say it's the right start point - I'd also try a 28 back in a DD/E cup.

Quick Curvy Kate/brastop update for those who were discussing them:

Curvy Kate Tempt me (Plunge bra which I think is the same cut as the elegance plunge) - This comes up small in the cup, I would ideally have sized up to a 30J. I wear a 30HH in bravissimo and mainly a 30H in Freya. However, I am keeping it anyway as the cleavage is fucking a-ma-zing and my DH's eyes just about popped out of his head.

Curvy Kate tease me - I adore this and am ordering it in other colours - lovely and soft, nice soft and not too thick straps. Keeping it in a 30H although there isn't a massive difference between the H and HH.

Curvy Kate Emily - unpadded - just couldn't get on with this, the shape didn't have enough lift for me. However, the 30HH was the best fit.

Fleurty and Thrill Me - not keeping these although they fitted OK in the HH. The frill on Thrill me would be very obvious in most clothes too.

I don't know if anyone else has found this, but I found all the matching pants to be absolutely TINY - I ordered on the big side (usually between a 14 and 16 and went for the 16) and although they are lovely, I am seriously contemplating reordering in a 20 as they are that small. (and then cutting the labels off :))

SorrelForbes · 03/09/2012 16:26

Thanks for the update Statiscally. I had the same issue with the Emily. It just didn't do anything for me. I love the Thrill Me but, yes, the frill is a bit noticeable. I think I'll try a Tease Me next!

PacificDogwood · 03/09/2012 18:06

Thanks, Statistically.

Interesting about the pants - now I'm worried...

Although the Bravissimo own brand knickers seem huge to me - I went for medium although consider my glutes to be large usually Grin and they are large enough. And some... I think the large size would have done as a sail tbh.

Can't be long for my Brastop order now

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/09/2012 18:15

I would hazard a guess that a 16 in Curvy kate is about the same as a Bravissimo medium. I am wide of hip but they are silly!

HazleNutt · 03/09/2012 21:09

Statistically, why didn't you like the Fleurty? Looks so cute, was planning to order.

marriednotdead · 03/09/2012 22:20

Am late to the party but would like to join anyway- I'm another bra fitter if you've got room for one more Wink

I bought the Fleurty recently and can honestly say it's my most comfortable bra at the moment. I'm usually a 32FF/G and got the G. It's truer to size (for a change), CK are usually at least a band size too big and a couple of cups too small to make up for it Hmm

Their pants are bloody minuscule though- it's not you. I'm a M(12) in Freya, S in most Bravissimo styles. My Fleurty knickers are a 14 and they're not loose at all.

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/09/2012 22:32

The Fleurty was lovely, just couldn't justify keeping them all and I really loved the Tease Me so decided to get that in other colours instead. Something about the Fleurty wasn't quite as nice on me- but really not much in it.

soooooo glad it's not just me with the pants, I was beginning to get seriously paranoid!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/09/2012 00:23

I ordered a Prima donna from R and P online on Wednesday night. I paid for express delivery.
It was despatched Friday p.m, and it still isn't here.

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/09/2012 00:32

I sympathise, two of mine were swirling around Royal Mail all weekend, I was properly stroppy.

HazleNutt · 04/09/2012 08:15

Thanks I might try the Fleurty then - trouble is that I'm in France, so no free delivery or exchanges and delivery itself takes ages as well. But ordering from UK is pretty much the only option, local shops do not believe anything above C-cup exists. Sigh..
There are many, many women in massively ill-fitting bras here.

Medal · 04/09/2012 09:57

Coming to this thread a bit late, but wow!

Can I ask what similar measurements to me have got to fit comfortably please?

29 under bust around ribcage. 32 around boobs (think that's with a bra on).

I have been wearing 34B with lots of gaping. Recently bought a 32B Triumph bra and it fits much better but as it was from TKMaxx I got the only one in the shop and need to get some more that are as comfy.

Medal you need to be wearing a 28 or 30, definitely not a 32. Try a 28D and 30C, but you do always need to take a few options in as different makes vary in size quite a bit.

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/09/2012 10:18

The tempt mr is very different, it's far more cleavage than the tease me, but I think it does lift more than the deco. I would suggest going up at least one if not two cup sizes from your tease me size though. I have a tiny bit of central ahem bulge in it, but I always have this issue with very low bras as I have no gap at all between my boobs. But then I would only wear the tempt me under a plunging top anyway so all good .

Medal · 04/09/2012 10:20

ItsMyLastOne thank you!!!! I can't believe I am so off the mark. Will try some 28D and 30Cs on, feel much cheerier to be a C or a D than a B Grin

clarabellabunting · 04/09/2012 10:29

I have been following and reading this thread for days now with great interest and finally this morning whipped my tape measure (and boobs) out to check on what size I am/should be wearing.

At the moment I wear a 34E but I do have problems finding a bra that my boobs don't kind of slip out of the middle of, if you know what I mean.

My measurements are: bust 37.5 (bra-less); under bust 32.

I'm wearing the wrong size then, aren't it? What size should I be wearing? And is the boob slippage to do with me wearing the wrong size?
