50's bombshell makeup - any tips?

I've always just stuck to bright red lipstick, black eyeliner and lashings of mascara but I'm sure there must be a better way. Would anyone be so kind as to enlighten me?

MrsLettuce the lipstick you recommended arrived today and I'm very impressed, I even showered and it didn't come off! I'm off to a wedding reception tonight so it'll come in very handy not leaving lipstick marks when I'm kissing the bride etc :)

Glad you're happy with it! Did it hold up alright at the reception? I found I had to wear it a few of times before I got the hang of putting just the right amount on - put a bit much on the first couple of times and it lasted well but about 1/2 as long as it does now I've got the knack.

I always put a pair of rubber gloves on to pull tights/stockings on. Much easier than trying to pinch them.

See this Leopard print 50's swimsuit here? What do you lot think? Does it scream Porno it's self or is that just the interesting choice of model? 'cause I love it, it's in the sale, in my size and I need to return some stuff to them to the same-ish value.

Might be relevant to know that where I am (on teh continent) bikinis are the done thing for all. swimsuits being almost exclusively seen only on the heavily pregnant or those over 70 and a size 24+. So, I'd be significantly more covered than most. My frontage definitely wont look like the model's does. Still leopard though...

Oooh I love it and I'm Envy too as I'd love a retro swimsuit or even bikini but it's really hard to find one to fit me :(

Anyhoo I say go for it, a girl can never have too much leopard print!!

Oh and yes the lipstick stood up well, I put slightly too much on today as its hard to get to the edge of the lips without it getting too thick at the edge and not enough colour in the centre and it was a bit sticky but once it dried and I put the balm on it was fine. I haven't worn a 'normal' lippy since!

So, what's the deal with the swimwear for you then? I bet I could find you something, would love to give it a crack for you! May I?

Anyway, glad you like the lipstick it does take a hell of a lot bit practice with that odd applicator, quite agree. I can get it on with perfect coverage and reasonably sharp edged easy enough now, the other shade I wear is wham-bamn-on-done, but the red really needs a liner on me. The one I have isn't right, changes the colour totally even when it's just on the edges. Grr. Oh, and putting it under the 24 hour stuff seems to stop it sticking did you find that?

But, yes, my point being, the googleator has revealed several sources claiming MAC lip liner in Cherry is a perfect match...

Ok the problem with swimwear for me is that I'm ahem a size 20 with FF boobs. I'd love a high waisted bikini for the garden and a swimsuit for the beach. I'm confident enough to pull off a one piece in public but not a bikini Grin

This is me fully clothed obvs!

Those are nice Lettuce. Not keen on the visible ribs on the model in the top row. The style is made to be filled out.
