I cannot wear skinny flipping jeans!!

As I seem to be (years) behind the times I thought boot cut was still ok. Apparently not , so I have bitten the bullet and tried some skinny jeans. They are all AWFUL on me truly absolutely hideous ! I have parsnip legs , very long (36" inside leg ) but my thighs are huge compares to my bird like calves and ankles . They really do look stupid beyond belief on me and flipping uncomfortable too .
So what can I do ? Shall I continue to look like a sad thirty something woman in bootcuts which suit me or resemble a root vegetable but be vaguely current in style . I don't have a huge range of jeans to choose from due to my leg length either . What about straight cut are they also to be mocked? I might get away with those , maybe only carrot legs then

I had carrot legs until I lost a bit of weight now I can wear them without a long top

However if this isn't for you, a straighter leg will be more flattering. You really don't want to look like a parsnip. Have a look at Gap Curvy. What size do you wear?

IHaveAFeatureWallAndILikeIt · 30/07/2012 09:02

As far as I know straight cut are fine. If bootcut suits you then wear it because you will look loads better than wearing the "fashion" that doesn't. If you want to find something fashionable that suits you why not try a personal shopper at a department store or Topshop?

How about wearing skinnies with a tunic top to hide your thighs and showcase your great calves and ankles?

MonsterBookOfTysons · 30/07/2012 09:04

I also can't wear them, my calves are too muscular. They look silly on.
I like my boot cut, am wearing them now.
I wouldnt worry they will be back in fashion by next year :o

wriggletto · 30/07/2012 09:05

I can't wear them either. I look absolutely ridiculous. And any 'long top to cover the tops of your thighs', as is often recommended on S&B, would have to be knee length, at least.

The fact that you can still get bootcut jeans, albeit in disguise, suggests it's not an uncommon problem! I now wear slimfit bootcuts - Gap Sexy Boot or Joe's Socialite - which are skinny enough round the knee to look vaguely fashionable, but have a slight flare at the bottom to act as flattering optical effect.

BigBandwitch · 30/07/2012 09:05

straightleg jeans are hard to get hold of but they are out there. teenagers mightn't rate them, but imo they're too classic to look ridiculous. I wouldn't mock them but then I think people should dress for their shape.

if you're tall you can wear long shirts and tops over skinnies. dare i say it, tunics. They look awful on me because i'm not tall.

JackJacksmummy · 30/07/2012 09:08

I've never tried the to be fair, although I doubt any would fit me as I have big thighs - I have to buy a size 16 instead of the 14 that I am just to get them comfortably over my thighs.
I have been tempted to have a look now so I might spend a day in town and try on every single pair til I find some!!!

PuppyMonkey · 30/07/2012 09:10

Hide your thugs with long tops and shirts.

PuppyMonkey · 30/07/2012 09:10

Hide your thighs too. GrinBlush

onebigwish · 30/07/2012 09:11

I'm a bit the same, although skinnies look better now I've gone down a dress size.

But I got some FABULOUS straight leg jeans from Asda that fit really well, don't bag or lose shape after washing and only cost £5!!! Totally worth a look.

Moxxie · 30/07/2012 09:12

I can't wear skinny jeans either, I don't think many can, they'd just rather look like trendy sausages than dowdy bootcut wearers...

I am contrary, so go for full on wide leg. But because my thighs are also wide they are fairly fitted at the top and kind of look like flares. But I rock them, so frankly my dear...

GoodHeavensMrsEvans · 30/07/2012 09:17

I love my Levi's straight leg curve ID in Bold Curve sooo much. I'm saving up for a second pair. I do also wear skinnies but I have a root vegetable problem too... I think straight leg are more stylish than skinnies fwiw.

pudding25 · 30/07/2012 09:18

What about boyfriend style jeans?

maybenow · 30/07/2012 09:19

i wear mine with big chunky boots and don't wear them at all in summer as i look like a parsnip with ballet pumps or whatever, they look good with boots though and not parsnipy at all - the boots balance things out as i'm not fat as such, just got muscly chunky thighs and delicate ankles and tiny (size 3) feet.

comelywench · 30/07/2012 09:19

I wear straight legs jeans, and just got a really nice high-waisted pair from Next - I'm not sure if they do long leg tho. I like them because I find them easier to wear with flats than bootcut jeans which always trail in the wet on me if I wear flats.

If you can find straight leg, give it a go, but I agree with Ihaveafeature that it's better to look good in bootcut jeans than force yourself into something more trendy. Skinnies aren't the be all and end all!

AnArkIsAFineVessel · 30/07/2012 09:20

I'm a size 10 and 6ft so not big everywhere . I just have really odd shaped legs I think and all my lard exists on my thighs and no where else. Also compounded by the skinniest birds legs at the bottom. Long tips are going to be a struggle to find as long usually means bum length and thighs on show on me. Gap is a good plan ,they have a tall range in there now I have heard so I shall take a trying on trip there I think . I do wear leggings and long jumper type dresses in the winter , usually with knee length boots which seem to hide/ balance out the thigh issue. I am pleased that I am not the only bootcut wearing person still in existence . Yay for fellow parsnip legged people Grin

long-line cardi worn open helps too...

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 30/07/2012 09:20

Can I join? I have skinny legs but a massive arse and flabby tum (although heavily pregnant at the mo)

If straight leg are better, what do you wear them with, including shoes?

BigBandwitch · 30/07/2012 09:21

@ goodheavens, with those levis jeans, the idea of having three different waistbands for each size is a good one but I can't figure out if i'm a bold curve or not. My waist to hip ratio is about 75% I wish they had a tool where you could enter your waist and hip measurements and it would tell you if you're bold or demi. even though i think my waist is quite thick in relation to my hips i would always find the waist of 'my size' loose and if i went down a size, they'd be too tight on my sausage thighs and bigass. what do do what to do

Trills · 30/07/2012 09:25

What do you do?

Wear something else instead.

I have big thighs and calves (and ankles and feet) - skinny jeans that would fit me on the waist (if I could get them up) won't go on. So I wear other things. t's not the worst hardship in the world.

bishboschone · 30/07/2012 09:37

I don't get this boot cut is out business . I have lots of diesel jeans which ate essentially boot cut and look very nice thank you . I am short and large of thigh and skinny is not my best look. Have you tried baby boot cut, or straight leg? Wear what suits your body .

Silibilimili · 30/07/2012 09:44

What about tapered leg? I hate skinnies too as you cant run about with them on or sit on the floor with kids comfortably. There are lots of good shaped trousers available currently and are really 'in'.

QueenCadbury · 30/07/2012 10:01

Who are you worried about being mocked by? A bunch of strangers on mumsnet Grin?

Seriously, wear what suits you. Being stylish is about wearing what flatters you not just what's on trend. Bootcuts are fine and if you wear them with the right things you will not be mocked.

I also can't do skinnies but do straight legs as well as bootcuts from gap.

notjustamummythankyou · 30/07/2012 12:04

As others have mentioned, Gap does a flattering straight leg - I recently picked some up in the sale. 1969 Real Straight, I think the style is called. They look good with heels and turned up with ballet flats. I'm converted!

ClaimedByMe · 30/07/2012 12:11

I am 30 a size 8 (althou my bum and thighs seems to be slightly larger) and I cant wear them either, I find them uncomfortable, if I sit for too long I lose the feeling in the bottom of my legs then get pins and needles and just feel silly all day, I have tried many different brands!

I am sticking with my bootcut and boyfriend jeans and I dont care if they are not 'in'

Lambzig · 30/07/2012 12:42

Uniqlo skinny straight are great as they are slightly looser and just skim the calf, so look quite fashionable/classic without doing the carrot thing. Cheap too. I dont know if they do longer lengths though.
