I bought L'oreal Elvive's Extraordinary Oil the other day and it is without a doubt one of the best hair products I've ever used.

I actually bought it on my lunch hour and curiously ran a blob through my windswept unbrushed hair when I got back to my desk (just to check out the smell and texture rather than actually trying to improve the look of my hair given that I was busy eating doughnuts working at the time) - and it just seemed to instantly fall into this glossy look. I've used oils before and often found them to be a bit greasy and to weigh my hair down but this seems much lighter without losing its power/ effect iyswim?!

I've sinced used it properly and people keep asking me what I've done to my hair as its in such good condition. Grin

Oh Christ, every time I open a thread on s&b I end up buying something on either ebay or amazon!

PetiteMum · 28/07/2012 23:33

What are the ingredients? So intrigued!

Mustgettogym · 29/07/2012 05:07

Different to kerastese oil....?

MrsFooty · 29/07/2012 10:50

Same company, but the Elvive brand tend to use cheaper ingredients, I have it to and love it

I've only used Kerastese once at the hairdressers, this gives the same results as far as I can tell, perhaps because as Mrsfooty says its made by the same company.

Sorry I should have added in my OP aswell that I've ditched my straighteners as I can get a lovely sleek blow dry with this.

Ooh, sounds good!!! I bought the v05 one (only a fiver) and is the best thing I have ever used on my very thick curly/wavy unruly hair!! I tried the l'oreal mythic oil which was good though not as good as the v05, just off to Boots to try this o e brill with s third off!!

fantasticfanjo · 29/07/2012 18:15

I love the kerastase one and have been pondering whether or not to get this one (its less than half the price)BUT was wondering if it would false economy - if anyones used both please spill the beans.

Meggles76 · 29/07/2012 19:59

Thanks for this post. Keep eyeing it in the supermarket but baulked at the price worrying it would just make my hair greasy. Think I will give it a go.

caution · 29/07/2012 20:19

Let me know how you get on! Theres a few ways to use it, either as a pre-shampoo treatment, pre-blow dry or as a finish. I prefer to apply it pre-blow dry and maybe a tiny bit to finish.

I'd be interested too to hear from anyone who's tried both this & Kerastase. Is it the Kerastase Elixir Oil we're talking btw? I got "recommended" (ie hard sold) that at hairdressers last week & said I wanted to think about it as its so expensive. My frazzled highlighted hair really does need something...if there's a cheaper alternative that does just the same it'd be wonderful. Is everyone sure about no greasiness / heaviness with the l'Oreal version?

carrielou2007 · 29/07/2012 21:21

Try the v05 one if you have super tho k hair it is amazing!! I went to buy some of the l'oreal as third off in Boots but sold out. I will still get one when I can. Hopefully it won't add to the pile of 'wonder' products that do nothing on my hair. My 14 year old niece quite likes them though!!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 29/07/2012 21:52

Watching with interest as fed up with paying so much for kerastase but nothing else seems to work.

ComeonComeon · 29/07/2012 22:15

If you use hair oil, can you then use ghd's or does it fry your hair?

They had argan oil in little bottles for £2.50 in Primark.

whackamole · 29/07/2012 23:32

Oh I have been wanting to try this for ages, the only reason I haven't is that my hair is so porous and dry that I tend to go through hair oil like it's going out of fashion.

I may give it a go though.

Krumbum · 30/07/2012 01:12

I've been wanting to get this. I use coconut oil but I find it very easy to use too much, think this would be easier to work with. It's hasn't got silicone in it though right? It's currently a third off in boots!

jan2011 · 30/07/2012 09:19

i got the elixir oil its really good and you only need the tiniest bit so even though its expensive it lasts for ages

fantasticfanjo · 30/07/2012 10:11

Off to town later today so will purchase and report back on the comparison between the loreal and kerastase :)

wellwisher · 30/07/2012 11:08

Which is the VO5 one people are talking about? This?

aquavit · 30/07/2012 11:30

The kerastase elixir is indeed rammed with silicones, and though I'm not opposed to them per se it doesn't really do much for me, much prefer their oleo relax serum if I'm going to use 'cones. I imagine that the l'oreal one is the same and wonder if those good results will last...has anyone used either for any length of time?

I am however quite impressed with the kerastase nectar thermique (also 'cone-ridden) but that's a bit off topic

carrielou2007 · 30/07/2012 11:56

No well wished it is in a bottle with a dropper miracle I think about x fiver (can't do links!!) used mind this morning and better than the l'oreal one I used yesterday but still will be on lookout in Boots when the other one back on stock!!

wellwisher · 30/07/2012 15:52

Thanks carrielou - found it on Boots' website!

carrielou2007 · 01/08/2012 15:37

Bought two yesterday and obs is going back later today, for my very thick unruly wavy hair it is no diff than frizz ease and has not worked any miracles on my hair likd the v05 does!!!

carrielou2007 · 01/08/2012 15:38

Obs ?? One bottle !!!
