Katz · 19/06/2012 19:39

The theme is 1960s cocktail dress and i've been told to think mad men (not that i've ever seen it!)

Would any of these fit the bill?

halter neck

safer option

floral

GnocchiNineDoors · 19/06/2012 19:47

I like the top one you linked best.

Also, Oasis navy dress
very very expensive but perfect Sad

Katz · 19/06/2012 19:53

that Ted Baker one is lovely but yep sadly a too expensive, although a useful reference point.

What is your budget?

Katz · 19/06/2012 19:57

probably up to £60-75 but would like to spend less

OP posts:
ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 19/06/2012 19:57

The first two are OK but you can do better for a similar budget - TBH picking one of a limited number of retro designs from very popular places like DP is asking to end up dressed the same as someone else.

wiggle dress (and again)
polkadot
floral
mental

The last 3 need a petticoat, ebay (new ones!) is cheapest.

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 19/06/2012 19:59

over budget but fab

GnocchiNineDoors · 19/06/2012 20:04

Midi length dress

GnocchiNineDoors · 19/06/2012 20:04

budget Bardot dress

Katz · 19/06/2012 20:07

i love the polka dot one linked to above! Do you know how their sizing comes up? I'm a 12/14 but a 32F bust, so need nork room

OP posts:
ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 19/06/2012 20:08

sleeves!
and again Shock
blimey, again
this in the blue?

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 19/06/2012 20:09

Oh, forgot to refresh.

No, sorry, can't help on sizing.

Katz · 19/06/2012 20:21

i like this one bird dress but is the fabric too modern?

OP posts:
ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 19/06/2012 20:27

Me too!

The cut should let you get away with it but hopefully Gnocchi will be back, sounds like she's more familiar with the series than me.

I'd just go for it myself (with good retroish accessories).

Katz · 19/06/2012 20:30

i'd wear that one normally too - i like dresses.

Hadn't thought of accessories Grin

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 19/06/2012 20:43

Well, you'll need some Wink

Do you have any black (patent) kitten heels? If I were wearing it IRL I'd go with one of the brighter colours for shoes and a white bag but apart from the fact you're not me I don't think that'd cut the mustard for your party.

What's your hair like? Will deffo need to be done IYSWIM...

Katz · 19/06/2012 20:48

nope no kitten heels, but can invest in some, i was thinking white or nude heals but not sure if that's 1960s!

Hair is kinda of crazy curly!

Crazy curly heh Envy Long, short, puttable up able?

Shoe wise I think you probably need to go black, how about something like these, these or these? The height of that last pair is spot on but not mad on the detail. Pointed toe a must I think. Patent would be fab. These with a different price tag would be perfection]].

White would be lovely IRL but not sure if it's look 60's enough. Will ponder.

For the bag, well, I wish I could say you could get away with contrasting but I fear it needs to match the shoes.

Katz · 19/06/2012 21:03

what did stylesafrik post say?

Hair - shoulder length with layers, but curly if left alone can do straight with my GHD's.

Shoes hmm not sure about pointy toes i have wide feet and pointy hurts! how about these?

OP posts:
Katz · 19/06/2012 21:06

or these bargain price too

OP posts:
ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 19/06/2012 21:14

Those last ones look about perfect to me!

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 19/06/2012 21:17

So, basically you can take your pick of 60's hair styles then? Brilliant, am sure you'll fine some good tutorials on youtube.

My damn hair is poker straight and won't hold a curl for love nor money, not even if my life depended on it. Won't stay up either. Ho hum.

Will have to google hair, mine will hold a style i'm just incapable of doing one!

Mad men seems to be very early 60s bordering on 1950s looking at the online pictures. so all i need is a swing dress, kitten heels, and look at mad men pictures to do hair!
