The theme is 1960s cocktail dress and i've been told to think mad men (not that i've ever seen it!)

Would any of these fit the bill?

halter neck

safer option

floral

found another possible red boden dress could go for the m&s shoes above but in red

I love red and I want to like it but, but no, for me it just misses the mark. The neckline is the culprit I reckon, neither fish now fowl.

The red shoes would be wonderful with the black an white polka dot LadyV dress though and you could get away with a black bag too...

Katz · 20/06/2012 07:33

Good idea - i'm off work today so i shall surf the web a little longer and then make a selection!

Hi

I know you have looked at the Vivien Holloway site, and there is are some lovely dresses on there. You said you are large of norkage, so the most flattering shape for you would be something like this or something with a sweetheart neckline, otherwise you'll just see a large expanse of 'chest!', rather than a more flattering neckline showing a little more flesh.

This would be great - cheap and an elasticated back so very comfy.

or this?

Good luck, and enjoy yourself Grin

Hi thanks for thoose, i'm a little apprehensive of shopping off of the high street as i have no idea what size to go for, based on the chest measurements on some i would need an 18! which is going to swamp my waist (31/32). Have you bought from here and know if they are generous in the nork department.

The phase8 one is lovely!

Have you looked at pepperberry? they've got quite a fe dresses that could be work.

Katz · 20/06/2012 21:19

I was debating a pepperberry one but wasn't sure which one to go for. I might try and get into town tomorrow lunch time and see if my johnlewis has the phase 8 one. I really like it, plus could go for the red m&s shoes too.

i like this one but wasn't sure as the description says 1950s red dress

Katz · 20/06/2012 21:27

this one says 1960s retro print

OP posts:
ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 20/06/2012 23:26

Both look good to me, the print one might well be a bit short though.

here's the red one on their FB page, here looks great. Better than on the site. The prin will be on there somewhere too.

Katz · 21/06/2012 07:36

Thanks for the link to the Facebook pepperberry that's so good to see the dresses on real women!

I was wondering if this one would work, I already have it.

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 21/06/2012 07:40

Yeah, it's so much easier to see how they look that way.

That should be fine as long as you ramp up the retro on the hair, makeup and accessories. Is it on/below the knee on you?

Katz · 21/06/2012 08:06

Below knee so length is right.
