Is it actually possible to find a mascara that CURLS your lashes?

I have very long lashes, but they make my eyes look smaller because I cannot bloody get them to hold a curl! Angry

The only thing that has ever worked is using Shiseido The Base before I apply mascara. However I'm on a student budget and cannot afford the price tag?

Any reccs?

Eye lash curlers and mascara of your choice would probably work out cheaper. Maybe try looking at Lisa Eldridge's website.

Thanks, will have a look!

Curlers don't work for me (though I admit I've never tried a 'high end' one.)

I have this issue too. I do this:

Warm curlers with a hairdryer
Curl lashes at the base
One fine coat of waterproof mascara
Curl lashes again
Coat with normal mascara

The theory is that curling doesnt last with just normal mascara as it's water based. So water added to a curled hair makes the curl drop. Hence the one coat of waterproof mascara which is oil based. This seals the curl, meaning day-long curled lashes, topped up with whatever mascara you like.

I use the £1 MUA waterproof mascara from Superdrug and it works. Everytime :)

I second eyelash curlers, best ones I have found are John Lewis's own brand for a fiver.

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 17/06/2012 12:11

Thanks for the curler reccs! Shall have a look online as I am in Aus.

Any mascara brand reccs? (I always try to use waterproof)

I have this issue - I curl them, they look great for half hour, then back to normal!

I second Pinot's method - it does make the curl last a bit longer. I also tried it using clear mascara first, curling, then applying normal mascara and got good results (the theory being that clear mascara is in essence hair gel so should hold a curl!)

I'm thinking of trying Eyeko's Curvy mascara next, or failing that Marie Claire are giving away a choice of Avon mascaras with next months issue and they do a curling one that has good reviews.

I am still considering a LVL (lash, volume, lift) treatment too (like an eyelash perm)

SnakePlisskensMum · 17/06/2012 13:13

Oooh yes, LVL is amazing! Made my short stumps look long and luscious, I can't recommend it enough.

MooMinCow · 17/06/2012 13:29

ooo Snake can I ask how much you paid and how long it lasts? was it uncomfortable?

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 17/06/2012 21:19

Sorry to be obtuse, but where would you find a clear mascara? Other than 'The Base' I've never seen one. Are they found in supermarket brands for example?

I think quite a few brands do clear mascara including the bosy shop I think. Best bet is to look at all the busget ranges in superdrug like Miss Sporty

Itsgottabebags · 17/06/2012 22:14

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 17/06/2012 22:16

DontForgetTheLightAlesLawrence · 18/06/2012 01:00

I use Ruby & Millie heated eyelash curlers. They make my lashes positively doll-like.

Benefit's new mascara "They're Real" v g.

sharklet · 18/06/2012 01:37

I love my shu uemura eyelash curlers - then Benefit Mascara.

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 18/06/2012 03:15

Well I ordered the ELF cler mascara, now I just need to upgrade my $5.00 curler so will have a look around!

I've never heard of Benefit mascara or No7? Are they reasonably priced?

And yes, I am being naughty because I'm a struggling student. Blush

SnakePlisskensMum · 18/06/2012 14:53

Moo - I paid £45 and it lasted about 6 weeks. It wasn't uncomfortable as such but it does take an hour and you have your eyes shut for most of it. They put eye shields on to stop the lotion creeping in, thats the worst part. Totally worth it though.

Eliza22 · 18/06/2012 17:26

Surprisingly.....Boots 17 limited edition Curl Mascara. It really does hold. All day. The one in the faux leopard skin container.

MooMinCow · 18/06/2012 18:08

thanks Snakes. might get it done before our hols as am waiting for the Revitalash serum to do it's thing!

Eliza - that's interesting. will have a nosy in Boots tomorrow

OP - here's link to the YouTube video that explains how to use the clear mascara to hold curl
