Palazzo trousers - yes or no?

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 13/06/2012 18:52

I am a size 14 and 5ft 9in (34 in inside leg) and was considering buying some palazzo trousers. the high waist and wide leg will hide a multitude of sins.

But I fear they were solely made for the size 8 people.

Are they slimming?

Are they just too cool for a mum of two with a flabby belly?

Any really nice patterns out there?

Or are they a total no-no?

Marking my place. Size 16 and wondering same thing. Wink

MissFoodie · 13/06/2012 19:09

i wear them, love them, as long as they are flat at the front, ie no pleating, and you wear with a slim top, go for it!

JennyPiccolo · 13/06/2012 19:10

I quite like them but my tastes tend towards the garish. They are incredibly comfy though.

frankie76 · 13/06/2012 19:15

Def very flattering whatever size

MamaGeekChic · 13/06/2012 19:23

See I thought they would be flattering, I bought a beautiful pair from Zara (I'm a size 14, 5ft8) and I've never looked so wide :( needless to say i swiftly returned them!

MissFoodie · 13/06/2012 19:41

maybe you were wearing wrong top?

LePinot · 13/06/2012 19:42

Yes!

They are chic as long as they are in a classic colour (no brights or patterns) and are long enough so they don't flap round your ankles or puddle on the floor. With a fitted top they look great, especially with a good pedicure popping out the bottom.

I have lots for spring/summer and wear them with vest tops and they look and feel v good.

MissFoodie · 13/06/2012 19:50

le pinot just explained properly what I was trying to say Grin

LePinot · 13/06/2012 19:52

still loving my coconut oil MissF - thanks x

MissFoodie · 13/06/2012 19:56
Thanks which one are you using btw?
scarlettsmummy2 · 13/06/2012 19:59

I have some black ones which I wear with a black fitted top and a colourful jacket. I have had lots of compliments! I'm 5'8 and size ten but I have a big bum and they disguise it well.

bigbadbarry · 13/06/2012 20:01

Are they only ok on tall people? I rather like them but always feel too short.

nkf · 13/06/2012 20:01

I love them and tall women like you look fabulous in them. Not patterned though.

MissFoodie · 13/06/2012 20:02

bigbad how short are you? you might get away with them with wedges/platforms?

GnocchiNineDoors · 13/06/2012 20:03

Can someone link a pair?

LePinot · 13/06/2012 20:04

Virgin Organic Coconut Oil from the food section of Sainsburys. I literally use it for everything now - overnoght hair treatment, OCM, body moisturiser, face moisturiser, eyelash treatment, cuticles, heels. Amazing stuff. And still half a pot left. Shock :o

bigbadbarry the height isn't important as the fit. As long as the length is right, it makes no odds if you're lanky or a shortarse like moi :)

LePinot · 13/06/2012 20:04

ooh yeah with espadrille wedges they look lush

Bunbaker · 13/06/2012 20:05

I think they would look fine as long as you are tall. IMO wide trousers are deeply unflattering on less tall people.

cybbo · 13/06/2012 20:10

I am your height and size and would think twice about palazzos. Wide legged trews I can carry off, but palazzos are sooooo voluminous I fear they would make even Gwyneth Paltrow look like a galleon in full sail

BorisJohnsonsHair · 13/06/2012 20:10

I'm 5 6 and wear wide-legged navy or black linen trousers with a tight vest top and navy/black cardy. I think it looks reasonable smart and does cover up lots of lumps and bumps. Don't ever ask me to remove my cardigan though Grin

myalias · 13/06/2012 20:10

They look good if you wear the correct size for your shape. I saw a pair today that were so tight that it looked like the owner was chewing a toffee.

BorisJohnsonsHair · 13/06/2012 20:11

5 foot 6 not 56!

bigbadbarry · 13/06/2012 20:20

I'm 5'4" so not that short but not tall either.

CMOTDibbler · 13/06/2012 20:22

I've got some black chiffon ones from ASOS, am 5'9 and a 14, and I really like them

LoopyLoopsCorgiPoops · 13/06/2012 20:24

Plain, yes. Tall, yes. This, no.
