AWFUL skin after being so smug about the OCM!

My skin is like sand paper, red and sensitive and hurts. Everything I put on it stings except Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream so am covered in that (I look very shiny! Grin)

My skin looked fab cleansing with sweet almond oil and had been doing it for about 3 or 4 months and now it is SHITE! Sad

Help!

Have you used anything different? I don't know what OCM is.

51wksApart · 03/06/2012 12:15

Oh poor you. I am not that far in but have been having much success with sweet almond oil after switching from Jojoba when that happened to me. One thing that I have found to be wonderfully soothing is cold pressed olive oil. It does have a tendency to give me spots after a few days but if I only do it for a day it is lovely. I just put some on and sit there for a while feeling silly, then remove as normal which is only warm water not hot..

Do you moisturise after OCM? I never used to but would wake in the morning very dry. Now I use a mixture of trilogy rosehip oil, and waitrose baby bottom butter (which is the best stuff in the whole world, smells like white chocolate, but does not taste like it according to DS...Grin). The latter is basically olive oil, chamomile oil, some vanilla and nothing else. I also find that my skin is best if I do not touch it at all in the morning. I hope it calms down quickly.

Oh and oats, oats are currently sorting Ds's eczema and I think helping my face too. For his bath I take a handful of oats and tie them into an old muslin and just soak in his bath until all the white stuff comes out. When he is finished I take the slimy oat bag and put some of the oozy white stuff on my face for the evening (it dries clear btw!) and then OCM as normal. 'tis very soothing. For a quick fix I would still recommend the Waitrose bottom butter though :-)

Sounds like an allergic reaction to me. have you changed anything else like your washing powder or fabric softener?

valiumredhead · 03/06/2012 16:19

Thanks for the responses. It's not an allergy, it's just sore. I do have really sensitive skin normally but usually manage to keep it under control.

Aha! I do have baby bottom butter - will slap some on and see what happens. I am so dry whatever I put on sinks in but leaves the dry bits dry!

Can't imagine its the ocm if you have been using it for 4 months. Sounds like you've had a reaction to something else.

HerbWoman · 03/06/2012 20:40

Has it coincided with being out in the sun more? Could it be a photosensitive reaction to a medication or are you using any essential oils on your skin?

HouseOfBamboo · 03/06/2012 23:25

I would guess at a sun reaction too - do you tend to get rashes in the sun?

valiumredhead · 04/06/2012 10:58

Not been out in the sun - I avoid it at all costs Grin

I couldn't find Baby Bottom Butter last night but I remembered I have some Aveeno which I slapped on and it has transformed my face! I slathered loads on and left it for about 15 mins then took it off with a warm muslin cloth then put some more on to moisturise.

I'll start OCM again but will use Aveeno afterwards and see what happens - I hadn't been moisturising religiously after doing it so maybe that was it?

Going to try the oats in a sock tonight as well - I have used that in the bath but never on my face, seeing as Aveeno is oat based it might work for me.

What is OCM?

rollingfog143 · 04/06/2012 11:37

Hang on! Is it oil cleansing method?

valiumredhead · 04/06/2012 11:38

Yes Grin

OP posts:
hiddenhome · 04/06/2012 11:41

The only oil that doesn't irritate my face for OCM is castor oil, and people keep saying you're not meant to cleanse with only castor because it's too strong Confused You just have to keep experimenting I guess Smile

valiumredhead · 04/06/2012 11:44

Oh Castor was hideous when I tried it!

quirkychick · 04/06/2012 11:59

Could it be something you've eaten?

I use bottom butter too, you can put it on and when you feel up to it gently rub with clean, very soft towel to clean face. But only when your skin's calmed down! I use this and ocm.

Hope it gets better soon.

TheGruffalosbitch · 04/06/2012 13:49

The only one that hasn't messed my face up is castor oil mixed with ev olive oil as a carrier

heroutdoors · 04/06/2012 15:59

www.eucerin.co.uk
Have a look on here, might be good.

Also, anything with calendula in is very healing.
But for now I would put nothing on, it sounds really irritated.

valiumredhead · 04/06/2012 16:01

It's much better today - Aveeno is definitely helping! I managed to put some make up on today as a friend came over for lunch and couldn't face going without, I couldn't have done that yesterday at all.

Will look at Eucerin, thanks :)

Maybe your oil went off?

valiumredhead · 04/06/2012 18:29

It didn't smell off...

My skin is very temperamental. The only thing that soothes it when it's painful is boring old E45 or vaseline.

Ryoko · 04/06/2012 18:49

How odd, I've been slapping Bio/Rescue oil on my skin after washing for years with no problem (that has almond, evening primrose and.....something else in it).

You bought any new make up recently? or sun screen?

valiumredhead · 06/06/2012 08:30

Ooo I have tried Bio a couple of months ago - stung like mad!

Skin is MUCH better now, so probably need to stick with the Aveeno for a bit then will tentatively try sweet almond again but this time use Aveeno afterwards.

No new make up and don't use sunscreen on my face as I wear foundation with it in.

I've tried going moisturiser-free after cleansing, both after OCM and the Dr Haushka method. Neither agreed with my skin, I looked dessicated! So now I use Rosehip oil, which is AMAZING, and also Aveeno when required.

valiumredhead · 06/06/2012 16:13

What is the Dr Haushka method?
