Do you wear a sunhat?

I've been wearing a straw hat in the garden the last couple of days but wouldn't wear it out. I've always fancied a nice one though especially after seein Rene Russo wearing one in the thomas crowne affair (in fact I love all the syle in that film)

So do you and what kind?

I have one similar to this but straw coloured.

It makes a huge difference to me actually being able to stay outside and enjoy the sun. I am a brunette and my hair gets so hot to touch it practically burns your hand. It also keeps the sun off my face and stops me burning.

It took me a couple of hat-trying-on sessions before I found one that suited me, but I wouldn't be without it now.

And there is the added bonus that one can people watch perve over hot men without being caught! Grin

I love sunhats, but rarely wear them. I usually wear them on the beach, to disguise bad hair

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/05/2012 15:03

I only realised a few years ago that the colour of your hair makes such a difference to how hot your head gets, mine is very dark and gets extremely hot compared to DH's much lighter coloured hair. I also like my eyes shaded, even with sunglasses the glare annoys me.

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 28/05/2012 15:09

No...I am almost 40 and would look too middle aged and careful.

Lucycat · 28/05/2012 15:14

I have a huge Roxy wide brimmed one but it's too big for crossing roads as i can't see round it so I nearly get run over on a regular basis - I also can't hear anything under it!
I do look like an ioncognito A lister in it with my shades though Grin

KurriKurri · 28/05/2012 15:43

I always wear one - I would rather look eccentric than risk getting skin cancer. Mine came from a market stall and is a wide brimmed straw affair with beads round the bottom of the crown. It also features an internal drawstring so you can adjust it to fit your head (lucky for me as I have a pin head). It is the bees knickers, and everyone should wear one just like it Smile

Enragia · 28/05/2012 15:44

no bloody way

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret · 28/05/2012 15:56

Fuck yeah, I don't want to be wrinkly or to end up with skin cancer. You haters are mentalists Grin

cocolepew · 28/05/2012 16:00

Yes a straw cowboy hat from poundland! I only wear it in the garden, I'm going to get another from wandering in public. I'm a sunstroke magnet otherwise

FreeButtonBee · 28/05/2012 16:08

I have a nice floppy plaited straw cream one from Anthro. It's great for the beach/by the pool or mooching about at the weekend and it protects the old decolletage from too much sun. It makes me feel very "Camomile Lawn". But won't wear it to work, maybe in August or something.

Enragia · 28/05/2012 16:08

You lot will all have rickets instead

bronze · 28/05/2012 16:11

You do know a hat doesn't cover your whole body don't you Enragia? Grin apt name

OP posts:
whackamole · 28/05/2012 16:11

I haven't got one, but I really want one! I wide brimmed incognito A lister style like Lucycat's. Grin

whackamole · 28/05/2012 16:15

Have just had a look at the Accessorize hats - I like a lot of them but why couldn't they have photographed them on someone? They don't look like that on a head - even photographing them on the stands in store would have been better!

whackamole · 28/05/2012 16:15

What do we think of this one? I quite like it, the price is certainly good, but would I look like an old tart?

Takver · 28/05/2012 16:15

Yes, in fact I always wear a hat - I have winter/summer caps for general wear, then sunhat for hot and fleece hat for very cold. And of course a waterproof hat for rain.

I don't understand how people manage without a hat unless they live in the city where there's less weather Grin

Enragia · 28/05/2012 16:17

I hate that look of mums with the sensible sports sandals, crag hoppers trousers, a back pack and a cloche style fabric hat.
I call her Earnest Mum

Often gets irate about tidying up at play group.

Enragia · 28/05/2012 16:18

Talks about "parenting " a lot.
Likes wooden toys
Kid a bit of a terrorist. Hits other kids. Mum explains he's tired. He's actually a shit.

Pinot · 28/05/2012 16:20

I want a paparrazzi-magnet hat like Lucycats! Envy

I've just bought a black straw cowboy hat from the cancer research shop. £3.95. I know, I'm a devil for spoiling myself.

I don't think I look like a total wazzock in it. Quite the result.

Takver · 28/05/2012 16:21

"sensible sports sandals, crag hoppers trousers, a back pack and a cloche style fabric hat"

well, you've just slagged off just about everyone who works as a gardener/warden/other outdoors job you care to name . . . (except the sandals, more likely to be wearing hiking boots)

whackamole · 28/05/2012 16:21

Enragia does the hat I linked to make you think of that? Grin Or just any hat?

(Just to clarify, I would never wear sports sandals, or a backpack. I am far too trendy for that Hmm)

worldgonecrazy · 28/05/2012 16:22

I have a straw hat that is something like a cross between a stetson and a trilby. My sartorially-intelligent husband thinks it looks good on me and it goes with all of my casual summer outfits. I have kept my face out of the sun for the last 25 years and it shows when I have those skin tests that show sun damage - I haven't got any at all.

Hats are all about attitude, wear it with confidence.

Enragia · 28/05/2012 16:23

Nope.

worldgonecrazy · 28/05/2012 16:23

DH has just informed me it's called a wide-brimmed fedora. You learn something new every day!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/05/2012 16:24

I used to have one like that Whackamole - looked nice at first but it very quickly got bashed and crumpled looking and ended up in the dressing up box, the wire in the brim got twisted. I sometimes wear it for gardening though.
