Which shoes with this dress, please?

Having searched for ages for a dress for DPs cousins wedding, I have finally settled on this - I dont love it, but its not bad, so it'll do!

I am however stumped on what colour shoes to wear with it! The model in the pic has on some tan wedges which I have to say, arent really doing it for me! I thought maybe grey/silver, but everything I can find is peep toe (and mostly really really glittery, which i'm not so sure about!). Colour suggestions would really help but if anyone has any links to shoes that might work I'd be ecstatic! I'm open to all suggestions, although I cant do massively high heels (hidden platform is a plus if the heel is high), and i'm on a bit of a budget so cheaper is always better. I'm slightly carrot shaped so sandals look a bit rubbish, shoes seem to balance me out a bit more if that makes sense. Really grateful for any help given! Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure how cheap you need them to be, so sorry if some are over budget, , but here are some suggestions for grey/silver (I agree that those colours would work best with your dress):

Nine West

Dune, only a few sizes in stock!

KG

If you're a 5!

I would go for a gold shoe but silver would be lovely too.

sweetheart · 19/05/2012 21:57

I really like teal with black. If you wore black tights and shoes I think it would lengthen the look of your legs too

toofattorun · 19/05/2012 21:59

LittlePanda - loving the Dune shoes!

SuperDuperJezebel · 19/05/2012 22:21

Ooh I love those Dune shoes but not sure if I can justify the cost... should have really said ideally I'd like to spend around £40ish, know its not much but have got a bit too much month left at the end of my money! The other ones didn't massively scream out to me, I think I prefer a rounded toe, but I really appreciate all the suggestions!

Sweetheart I agree that would look fab but I'm thinking (hoping) it might be a bit too warm for them by early June... went to a wedding a few weeks ago and I was literally the only one in tights! Shame too cos it def makes my legs look better!

Not quite as nice as the Dune ones but similar:

Ooh cute, I love those, thank you! I am going past Debenhams tomorrow so I shall try them on!

The bow won't be too much with the detailing on the dress? [worrier]

OP posts:
LittlePandaBear · 19/05/2012 22:50

I don't think it will be too much no, as the dress is all one colour so you can get away with detailed shoes.

Now, do you need a bag? Grin

SuperDuperJezebel · 19/05/2012 22:53

I do, come to think of it! figured I'd pick up a cheapie somewhere, but always happy with bargainous suggestions!

Although I'm disappearing now so can't help anymore tonight but I'm sure somebody else can. Let us know how your shopping trip goes.

SuperDuperJezebel · 19/05/2012 22:54

It's a Friday wedding btw, are these things usually more or less formal than a weekend one?

OP posts:
SuperDuperJezebel · 19/05/2012 22:55

Bag I can prob sort out myself, it was just shoes I was struggling to find. Thanks again for your help!

LittlePandaBear - you're great! A real expert!

LittlePandaBear · 20/05/2012 12:29

I've never been called an expert before, but thanks! I just love shoes and can't afford to buy all the ones I want myself so am happy to browse all of the websites for them. Smile

I've never been to a Friday wedding myself but I imagine it'll be just as formal as a Saturday one, just a little cheaper for the couple to book!

Let us know if you get some shoes and a bag (and a cardigan/jacket...?)

SuperDuperJezebel · 20/05/2012 22:10

So I somehow ended up with these babies which I hope fit... from the description it sounds like they might be a little tight but I couldnt resist giving it a go for that price. If all they fail me, off to Debenhams. Thoughts on bag - should I try for a rough match to the colour of the shoes? or the dress? I dont think i'm going to bother with a jacket/cardi too much, i have a grey one somewhere and am crossing my fingers it doesn't end up being too cold. Because we all know Scotland is renowed for it's tropical weather! Going to try and get a grey feathery clip thing for my hair, I have a silver butterfly and feather one but its very sparkly/sequinny and i'm not sure it WORKS. Thanks again for your help!

OP posts:
LittlePandaBear · 20/05/2012 22:32

Wow, what a bargain! Hope they fit okay.

I think it's now the done thing to NOT match your shoes and bag, however I'm not a colour clash person either. I have a nice snakeskin bag (don't worry, not real!) which is quite neutral and adds some interest and matches to nearly everything. But animal print may not be your thing!

SuperDuperJezebel · 29/05/2012 19:26

Just to update (finally!) they arrived and didnt fit! I could juuuuust get my foot into them but it was agony, so i've given them to a friend! I went to buy the debenhams ones and the size 8 is sold out - I'm a size 7 but all the reviews say to size up. So i'm back to the drawing board, feel like i've looked at every single grey and silver shoe advertised online and either I hate them, or I cant afford them [wail]. Running out of time to order online anyway so going to try and hit Oxford street on friday and see if I can find anything I dont hate in either grey, silver or frankly any other remotely matching colour.

Looking at the picture of the dress on the HOF website, maybe i SHOULD go for a nude-brown colour after all?

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 29/05/2012 23:30

Argh, what a shame.

These are peeptoe but not a 'light' looking shoe - they'd be stunning with that dress. here, maybe with a silver clutch and a cream pashmina?

Coral (a soft shade) shoes would be lovely too, or gold. The nude wedges look rather too clumpy with the dress, to me it jsut doesn't work.

(wrt the tights - nude microfishnets are a wondrous thing)

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 29/05/2012 23:40

coral, too low?

nude

MOODbyme · 30/05/2012 07:43

Hi,

A bit late to the party but if you're still looking, what you said about the carrot issue made me think these colours could be interesting, strong shades or ones that provide a balance to the dress, which is lovely:

  • these ones at Schuh are silvery but with a hint of lavender for something extra
  • coral orange/pink shades are great, like here at Office and half-price
  • and these grey glitter are more solid than fully silver, but still with a sparkle...
SuperDuperJezebel · 30/05/2012 14:27

Thanks to both of you, def given me some ideas! I'm not sure about coral shoes but agree I need something statementy to balance me out! Love those office shoes, might just get them for round the house! I dis wonder about something blue... Not quite navy but darker than royal blue? Or a deeper teal, the dress is quite a light murky tealy colour. Going to take dress with me and work my way down Oxford st on Friday afternoon, you've opened my mind to something other than grey shoes so really appreciate it!

OP posts:
ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 30/05/2012 15:12

Ah, glad to be of some use!

Zara have some shoes in a deeper shade of the same teal as your dress, I've not seen anything else about in that shade at all (even for 6x the price), so here's link in case they're any good.

Good luck with your shopping mission!
