i bought this today and these to wear with it. i need to buy a bag and jewellery to wear with it and possibly something to wear over my shoulders? also, would it look really silly if i got one of those petticoats that makes the puffy bit puffier?

BTW the tags have not been removed so please tell me if the dress or shoes or both are hideous as i have zero style sense. the dress fitted in the shop so i bought it.

The dress is good and that necklace is perfect. The shoes OTOH are criminal, sorry.

MrsLettuce · 11/05/2012 21:28

these would be great

mrscumberbatch · 11/05/2012 21:28

I wouldn't bother with a petticoat as the detailing on the dress is at the bottom and you don't want it to be over fussy.

I am not so keen on the shoes- I would have went for something in a contrasting colour that I could tie my accessories in with (not in a matchy matchy way ) but they are not awful. You can work with them!!

Jewellery wise I would go for warm colours and gold. I wouldn't wear a necklace unless it was v v v fine as imho it wouldn't do the neckline any favours. I would get chunky gold bangles or russian bangles and a cocktail ring. Maybe some big earrings.

Bag wise.... I'd get a clutch but if you need to get nappies or whatever in it that's useless. What size of bag do you need?

MrsLettuce · 11/05/2012 21:31

Your right mrsC, thought it was VWestwood low but it's not at all, is it. Hmmm.

JennyPiccolo · 11/05/2012 21:35

OMG THE SHOES COME IN TARTAN.

mrscumberbatch · 11/05/2012 21:35

OP you have no bloody photos so I don't even know what age we're looking for here... but I like this : it's very youthful and charming anchor although it is vintage. For some reason i think it 'rocks up' the whole look.
If you had a messy updo I think something like that would go very well.

IAmBooyhoo · 11/05/2012 21:35

ooh wasn't expecting such quick responses!

ok so the shoes can be returned tomorrow as i only tried one on in the shop so not worn.

i love those Zara shoes.

my two dcs are going to be with me the whole day and ds2 is still not 100% on teh potty training so i will need changes of clothes, wipes, plastic bags and maybe a few bits of make-up. dont really want to have to lug a big bag with me as it will look odd but i have no choice.

Budget?

IAmBooyhoo · 11/05/2012 21:41

i dont really have a budget in mind as i dont know how much things cost but not big mad prices as i dont go out at all and weddings are years apart so these things probably wont get worn again as i'm not a jewellery person.

for a short time only there is a photo of me on my profile.

The dress will suit your colouring wonderfully. Was worried you were a pale and interesting type and it would have looked awful.

bag aldo this is quite nice and ties in with the shoes you already have. Bit 'wag' esque but you could get everything in it!

mrscumberbatch · 11/05/2012 21:54

another aldo this looks expensive but isnt! (Yay!)

IAmBooyhoo · 11/05/2012 22:01

ooh i am loving both of those bags. i am a bag person and those woudl definitely be used again! i think i liek the second one.

the tan in the photo is all fake but i will be putting teh same one on again for the wedding.

OP posts:
mrscumberbatch · 11/05/2012 22:18

Well it's a convincing fake so you should be alright! I think the second bag looks like a miu miu or a prada.

Have a look at topshop accessories and you might get something necklacey or bangly to give the outfit a bit of edge

IAmBooyhoo · 11/05/2012 22:21

thanks mrsc. i will go down town tomorrow when dcs are with their dad and see what i can get. should i still go for clashing colours if i'm going to get clashing shoes? or should the colours match teh shoes?

If you keep the beige shoes (it's a safe choice and if you think you'd get lots of wear out of them keep them) then I would go for gold accessories and maybe one statement colour (I like dark blue with your coral pink dress but it's not for everyone.)

If you change the shoes... I would maybe get a colourful earring in the same colour spectrum but not too matchy matchy or you'll look like a newsreader.
(ie if you get purple shoes you could go for deep blues or greens)

Am having a skim of the internet for inspiration!

mrscumberbatch · 11/05/2012 22:29

teeny crown necklace

cuff

mrscumberbatch · 11/05/2012 22:37

debenhams bracelet. it's kind of ugly pretty. I can't decide whether I like it or not.

casual cool leather band

IAmBooyhoo · 11/05/2012 22:44

ooh i like the crown necklace and gold cuff. ok thank you. i think i have an idea of what to look for. topshop tomorrow! Grin

mrscumberbatch · 11/05/2012 22:46

It's just a nightmare for me! I'm skint so shopping vicariously through other people this evening!! Lol

IAmBooyhoo · 11/05/2012 22:54

well i have been skint for the last 2 years and this is the first time i have bought myself an entire outfit for something. i always borrow off my sister but i had a bit of money mature in a savings bond so i'm using that to get us all dolled up for once, the dcs have got new outfits too. ds1 says his is yuck Sad ds2 wants to wear his to football tomorrow. Hmm

KittieCat · 11/05/2012 22:57

mrscumberbatch · 11/05/2012 23:00

I have a picture in my head of a wee boy going to football in a 3 piece suit Wink
In that case you should definitely spoil yourself- it's about time!
You'll look great and you always have a better night out when you're wearing a new outfit.
