Gap jeans, i'm normally an 8, do gap come up big or small?

title says it all really. I wear a size 10 in topshop jeans (I am an hourglass) but am an 8 otherwise. I'm looking at their sizing chart and going cross-eyed!

Go one size smaller in Gap jeans, and if you're getting bootfit/boyfit/easyfit I would recommend 2 sizes smaller :)

Also Gap size in US, so if you are a UK8 you will need a US4, one size smaller will be a US2!

HTH and happy shopping!

OracleInaCoracle · 08/05/2012 17:06

phew, thank you. would a 0 be too small then? they dont have a 2 in stock.

The sizing in Gap is a nightmare!

Their trousers are sized by waist and leg length rather than size 8/10. I am usually an 8/10 and when I buy skinny jeans from Gap I buy a 28/32. However I have tried on other styles and I can easily fit into a 26/32.

I tried on a skirt last week. I tried on a size 8-far too big that it almost fell down, so I tried a 6 which fitted well. But there is not a chance in hell I am a size 6other than in my dreams

So I would say go and try them on. If you are internet buying, measure your waist and leg length and buy a couple of sizes to try.

OracleInaCoracle · 08/05/2012 17:13

they are the long and lean jeans a size 0 is (apparently Hmm) a size 6-8 why cant shops just work to standard sizing?

Oh sorry x posted with everyone. I have never seen jeans sized a 8 or 10. But then haven't been on hte internet. I would say a US 0 would be tiny. Unless you are Victoria Beckham they will be too smallGrin

QuickLookBusy · 08/05/2012 17:15

Sorry I meant never been on the Gap website, not never been on the internetHmm

bibbitybobbitybunny · 08/05/2012 17:16

A 0 would be too small for you - it is smaller than a UK size 6.

QuickLookBusy · 08/05/2012 17:16

I would say you should try a 2 and a 4 if you can.

chibi · 08/05/2012 17:16

in store clothes are marked with a uk size on the tags

sometimes they are bigger or smaller than you expect - i have straight leg jeans that are 'my' size, and have just bought chinos in the size smaller. Ditto blouses, sometimes medium, sometimes extra small

i would be loath to buy anything online unless you had tried it on or were willing to send it back til you got one that worked

chocoroo · 08/05/2012 17:21

I have Curve cotton work trousers in a 14 and they're a bit big. Have the Chino's too and they're exactly right so I suspect you need to try on tbh. As much variation as anywhere else really.

OracleInaCoracle · 08/05/2012 17:21

here I might get the 8 (uk 10-12) and wear a belt. my legs are quite chunky.

Depends what style of jeans you buy, I think. I'm a UK 10 in sexy boot and long & lean, but 12 in straight leg and skinny. I'm an hourglass shape too.

blondiedollface · 08/05/2012 17:53

There's this which I find super useful as a 'generl' guide to what size to get from where...

Standard Sizing

I have worked at Gap for the last 6 years, and the reason they have US sizing is that they're a US company... Pure and simple :)

Try a US2/US4, their returns policy is very fair as well, full refund within 30 days.

MrsCampbellBlack · 08/05/2012 18:01

Depends on the style and the rinse. I can be a 0 or a 2 in there - very much depends on the cut.

Am an 8 in toshop and a 25 in premium if that helps.

OracleInaCoracle · 08/05/2012 18:02

have just measured, waist is 69cm and hips 92cm so I am a 6, but they dont have jeans in a six 8 it is then!

OP posts:
MrsCampbellBlack · 08/05/2012 18:06

I'd always go very tight in gap as my experience of their jeans is that they stretch enormously!

bigTillyMint · 08/05/2012 18:13

I am a size 12 with muscular thighsWink and i get a US8 - so I think you should get a 6 or not bother - the next size up always looks crap on me, and they seem to stretch a bit with wear anyway.

faustina · 08/05/2012 18:14

mrsCB is right - jeans sizing is a nightmare there. Which style are you looking at? The skinny ones tend to come up smaller than the others. (I don't just mean they're skinny) - the long and lean are massive, as are the sexy boyfriend jeans.

MrsCampbellBlack · 08/05/2012 18:27

The sexy boyfriend are hilariously big aren't they? I could have got me and half of you in the size 0.

And agree the skinny fit are more true to size

OracleInaCoracle · 08/05/2012 18:31

Ooh, bugger. The long and lean (I love the shape) or the sexy bootcut. I just need a new pair of jeans for general wear.

Go for a US0 in Long and Lean :)

faustina · 08/05/2012 18:37

I have the 00s in the sexy boyfriend ones, and I do love them mrsCB, but am in negotiations with a friend in the states to get me the 00 petites, which they don't do over here. They are my new best thing!
