How do Mums feel about ever wearing mini skirts again if we get our figures back?

After lots of hard work at last I have my size 10 figure back to what it was pre DD. Before we had her I was a great fan of short mini skirts and boots, I have a pic on my profile. I just don't know but I am just unsure of how I look in Mini Skirts now. Of course DH loves them on me but I went out last week wearing an old favourite for him and I just didn't feel right. Is it because I am just not used to wearing them. I have worn above knee skirts, suits and dresses for the past 3 years now and I am used to how look. Do you all feel at 27 a mini skirt is a better look for someone young and single? I like to please DH but I also want to feel good about myself when we go out. What have other Mums felt about skirt length when they got back in shape?

Your profile isn't visible.

I'm 45 and wear mini skirts, shorts with boots etc. You can wear anything you like but you should probably buy some new clothes that are up to date - three year old clothes won't make you feel special!

LowFlyingBirds · 06/05/2012 16:52

This reads...odd. But hey ho, your profile isnt clickable.

I'm 38 and have no problem wearing mini skirts or short dresses. I tend to wear them more in the winter with tights and boots. 27 is still really young so get your legs out and make the most of them. But buy some new mini's that make you feel good. Then you will enjoy wearing them!

HugeFurryWishingStool · 06/05/2012 17:04

I thought the same, LowFlyingBirds....Hmm

Bumperlicious · 06/05/2012 17:13

Does your DH know they make you feel uncomfortable?

max777 · 06/05/2012 17:14

Sorry I didn't realise my profile wasn't visible,it is now. Sorry if my post reads a bit odd.....maybe I should have read it a few times to make sure I explained what I meant better!

Firstly I think you should dress for you and what you feel comfortable in. It worries me OP that you seem to be trying to dress to please your husband. Surely he wouldn't want you wearing something you're not happy in?

Anyway, I'm 35 and today I'm wearing a Joules denim skirt that's quite short on me. I'm 5ft so some things not as short on me as they would be on someone taller granted!! Anyway, I'm always careful what I wear the skirt with - thick navy opaque tights, fitted jumper, scarf and heeled ankle boots. Sometimes flat, dark brown riding style boots too. TBH, the only reason the skirt has had a bit of a revival of late is cos I'm so sick of having to wear jeans and other winter things in this bad weather lol

MrsCampbellBlack · 06/05/2012 17:16

You're 27 and a size 10 - wear whatever you want!

mirpuppet · 06/05/2012 17:17

wear what you like -- minis are fine.

pudding25 · 06/05/2012 19:15

27 us mega young! Wear what you want and feel comfortable in.

Ghanagirl · 06/05/2012 19:20

I'm forty two and wear shorts with opaque tights in winter and bare legs in summer I'm a size 8 and my legs are brown with no cellulite so feel great in shorts, I'd wear whatever makes you feel good particulary at 27 years old

Pinkflipflop · 06/05/2012 19:21

Congratulations on losing your baby weight! You look great in your profile picture but I personally think the denim mini and stiletto boots combo is a bit dated now. I love denim minis but with opaque tights and flat boots, looks much funkier and definitely more practical with a little one.

hattymattie · 06/05/2012 20:50

Wear what you feel comfortable in but at 27 you are definately not too old for a mini skirt - for what it's worth I'm 48 and wouldn't wear one now but I wish I'd enjoyed clothes more when I was younger rather than slopping around in jeans all the time.

DinahMoHum · 06/05/2012 20:53

youre not too old at all. Wear what you like

DinahMoHum · 06/05/2012 20:53

what makes you uncomfortable now that didnt then?

By the way - just looked at your profile - you can wear what you like!!!

NagooIsBuildingAnArk · 06/05/2012 21:06

I'll wear short skirts and even shorts and I am 33. I don't want my arse hanging out, but that is nothing to do with being a mum.

Maybe since you have had your DC you have realised that you want to present yourself in a 'classier' way? That may come with age as well as motherhood. I think being in maternity clothes you get a break from your usual style whether you want it or not so an opportunity to re-evaluate.

Ghanagirl · 06/05/2012 21:35

You can still look classy in shorts or mini's, just not "batty riders" as the kids call them:)

Ribeno · 06/05/2012 22:31

Hey there. I have been thinking exactly the same. Im 31, size 10 and 5 ft 8. Mini skirts do look quite short on me. I have delightful blotchy pale legs but my DH still says go for short skirts as he think my legs are great. Funny really.

I am a bit paranoid : i think that others may think im wearing a short skirt to get attention.

To be honest when I see mummys pushing child in a buggy etc wearing a short skirt i could think either "mutton" or "that's a good look". Totally depends on the style and what its worn with.

Go for it!

Ribeno · 06/05/2012 22:32

Sorry, correction, mummies not mummys!

Ribeno · 06/05/2012 22:43

Anyway, this summer if i feel brave enough, I'll be wearing my old cotton high waisted mini skirts (from primark and h+ m but with decent lining to them) with metallic ballerina flats, very fine denier nude tights ( I can't have my legs bare nor can i apply fake tan) or my strappy gladiator flat sandals.

I also second denim mini skirts, opaque tights and low heeled knee length or low heeled shoe boots.

Not a big fan of kitten heel knee length boots except with maybe a midi or knee length skirt or dress.

lumbago · 06/05/2012 22:47

Wtf are you getting your legover a car for ? And why did you want to show that to other women ?

max777 · 06/05/2012 23:00

lumbago.......it was the only pic i had of me in a mini skirt!! Sorry.
