Cashmere socks are they worth it??

I have permanently cold feet and a friend has told me that cashmere socks will keep my toes toasty. I have looked at them in town today and they are a bit pricey but I don't really mind this if they are worth the price. So my questions are:

1. Do they keep your feet warm?
2. Do they last longer than normal socks?
3. Are they worth the cost?

My toes would appreciate any feedback! :)

I have some cashmere bedsocks and they are toasty, but they are handwash only, so that would rule them out as everyday socks for me.

I had some cashmere bedsocks from White Company and they wore out in no time

They were lovely while they lasted. I was scrupulous about only handwashing, too. They did feel cosy in a way that no other socks I've had have felt.

If it's for everyday I'd probably be looking in the outdoor shops seeing if there are special extra warm socks for mountain climbers.

I love Merino wool socks. Accessorise do gorgeous ones. They last and are not heinously spenny.

The Uniqlo heattech socks are really warm. Not sure if they'll still have them in though.

I have the pink ones from the white company and wear them in the evenings and when I first get into bed for around 9 months of the year (we live in a VERY cold and draughty house!). But I usually don't walk around in them every day, think they would wear quite quickly. I have machine washed on a wool wash by accident and they came out ok.

My brora ones wore out very quickly. They were lovely and soft and warm to start with, but with big holes in them, less so.

I splurged on some Brora ones a few years ago. They were absolute bliss to wear but wore out after a few months (handwashed only). I miss them .

Thanks for your feedback. I'm thinking it best to have cashmere for bed socks then and I will have a root in Accessorize for some merino ones for every day wear. Can't believe I'm moaning about my cold feet in May though!!!

humm yes i was wandering about in my usual combination of wool walking socks and slippers recently when someone commented on my obviously cold feet......glad to see i have good company

I recommend gap wool socks, prob out of season but wash well and wear for ages, I usually bulk buy in a sale

Good advice given re cashmere, it is not hardwearing for socks unless you mean bedsocks. M&S had some knee long ones in a wool mix fabric, £10 for 2 pairs, worth every penny, no pilling, no holes and toasty toes. You need at least 50% wool, something around 70% or 80% is best, a little nylon will make them last much longer.

I have a few pairs of cashmere bedsocks from john Lewis. These do seem to develop holes despite mostly being worn in bed. I have bought some bedsocks from Orkney Angora (no links as posting from phone), these seem warmer than cashmere & don't fall off overnight. Price is cheaper than cashmere. Still get the odd hole though.

I have some soft wool walking socks which I wear in bed and in the evening if it's cold. I don't think I would bother buying cashmere.

Heat Holder socks are the warmest I've tried (and I spend the winter working outdoors in boots/wellies), loads cheaper than cashmere.

Definitely worth it, super soft, undeniably better quality than all other socks in the universe - but not advisable to wear them in shoes, for they are so precious and delicate. Great for wearing with slippers in winter for comfort though. I like a little down-time luxury!

Mine were from Toast in the winter sale. Full price version was shocking, but Toast generally have their ethics and quality in order, even if most of their clothes and shoes are too big for me.

are the warmest socks ever. They are made of wool and possum fur. Don't worry, the fur is ethical. Possums are noxious imported animals in NZ. The do untold damage to the native wildlife and forests. The possum fur industry keeps them under control

I got some socks from M&S last year that are thick woollen style but with some small rubber anti slip pads on the feet so you dont slip on tiled floors etc.....they are fab and toasty.........they may not stock them now as it is a bit late for them.

I always have cold feet too and wear these ones from Primark called 'boot socks' they are thick and really warm! Think they are a couple of quid a pair.

For indoors, I find wool slippers make a big difference - toasty warm but breathable. I treated myself to some Padraig Cottage ones last autumn and despite constant wearing all winter they're still in great shape.

I have 8 pairs of Brora cashmere socks and 2 of Celtic Sheepskin ones. I've had the Brora ones 2 winters, washed on 30 in the machine and not one hole.

I wash them all weekly too. I only paid £15 a pair in the sale. I don't wear them as bedsocks either, just normal daily use.

Do you float above the floor Laurie?! My Brora socks had holes in them within weeks. Have never bought any more as they weren't that great anyway.
