I like the two with the wraps and the one with the halterneck. Not so keen on the other two. However it does depend on your figure and venue...

Ohhhhh I love weddings. Trying to talk dh into having another one on our 10 year anniversary....

stitch · 11/02/2006 09:11

did you not get the ebay one?
i like all these dresses, but since i dont know what body shape you have, couldnt suggest really.
i think halternecks are gorgeous, but only if you have good shoulders. etc.
also, what colour are they, cos white suits very few people.

starshaker · 11/02/2006 09:13

my figure is crap lol im going to a shop on thurs to try on loads of styles so i can see what suits. gonna try and get my sis to take pics with her phone. oh and nope didnt win that dress but she makes them all the time so it will come up again

stitch · 11/02/2006 09:21

starshaker, the right dress will make you look amazing, whatever your figure.
try on lots and lots of different styles. dont be shy or embarrassed. and dont let the sales assistants bully you.
....wish i could get married again..

I ended up suiting a style of dress I never imagined - strapless, fitted at the top and sort of A line skirt - am v busty and was pleasantly surprised that as the wedding shops alter all the dresses, it fit me so perfectly my boobs were really well supported (with bra, obv!) - I had a wrap for mine but never used it, it was just carried around in the car and is now in DD's dressing up box!

Good advice to try EVERYTHING on - if you have a bigger figure, halternecks don't tend to suit as a rule.

PS some "support pants" might help if you've got a tum! You can always rush to the loo on the wedding night to change into sexy pants!!

starshaker · 11/02/2006 09:43

think ill need a full suppost body sock as feel even my toes are fat lol

OP posts:
MamaG · 11/02/2006 09:46

Get it in white, you won't need a dress!

edam · 11/02/2006 09:48

I was a size 18 when I got married and I found a gorgeous dress. It can be done! Went wedding dress shopping with my sister recently and there were lots of larger sizes - pain in the bum for her as she's an 18. A-line is a godsend for people with (ahem) decent bosoms.

MamaG · 11/02/2006 09:49

Seriously tho, an empire line would probably work best with a seam under the bust to add support. Get really good fitting underwear and you could always get a supportive all in one- not v sexy but hey, if it makesyou feel better in the dress, then sod it!

CaptainDippy · 11/02/2006 09:51

Oooooooh- how exciting!! I LOVE Weddings - Congratulations Starshaker!! Wish I was getting married again too - Definitely like the plainer dress with the spaghetti traps and the wrap (needs a bit of an iron at the bottom though!! ) You will find the perfect dress and you WILL look stunning - stuff your figure - If you find a dress that suits you, it doesn't matter about your figure - You will look completely gorgeous and your DP won't be able to belive what a fox he is marrying!!

starshaker · 11/02/2006 09:51

thats the thing im 16 bottom and about 20 on top its a bloody nightmare

CaptainDippy · 11/02/2006 09:53

Agree on the underwear front - my Wedding underwear was hideous, but it did a great job!! I had a corset top and great big cycling short type knickers - Bleurgh!! But them I had sexy lacey little number packed in a bag to quickly change into for the Wedding night. Unfortunately, DH found it and packed it "safely" in our suitcase at the botom so I just whipped it all off and jumped into bed!!

CaptainDippy · 11/02/2006 09:56

Low cut top half - defintely, push up bra - If you have got it, flaunt it!! My friend is an 18 bottom and about a 20 top and she had a beautiful Wedding dress - strapless corset type top with full skirt - it was white with red edging and lots of pretty beading - Her boobs were practicaly falling out (but in a very tastful, wenchy kind of way) She looked absolutely stunning and her DH coudn't stop smiling all day = Big is Beautful!!

MamaG · 11/02/2006 10:00

Right, now we have all the facts....

Strapless fitted top - if you have a dress that "hangs" from your bust, it will make you look bigger than you are.

A line bottom (or even separate skirt?) to add balance - if you have a column type skirt, you might look too top heavy

Scaffolding type condomy underwear to give you confidence.

Ooooh I'm SO excited now!!

MrsBadger · 11/02/2006 17:20

how exciting!

a bodice/corset-type top will hold everything in and show off your, um, assets, and a full skirt will keep everything balanced - some good advice here .
The bottom left dress of your selection is the closest to this, but I think something with a longer bodice, and detail at the hip or hem (like this ) may end up being even more flattering.
I think the top right dress and the one with the wrap neckline run the risk of making shoulders look wider - great for pear-shapes like me, less good for the top-heavy.

If you can bear it, post pics of dresses you've tried and liked / not liked - I love weddings!

Twiglett · 11/02/2006 17:53

if the first one is that creased on the sales shot I'd worry about the material

don't like the detail on the 2nd cos I think it's a little over the top

think the coffee ribbon on the third really doesn't work

so I'm sorry but I don't like any of them

PeachyClair · 11/02/2006 18:17

For some strange reason, the ones on the ;eft, my fave are top and bottom on that side. I think the one at the top with the wrap is gorgeous and won't date your photos at all- very stylish.

as didn't get a wedding dress, for rather practical gross reasons was the right choice at time, but still- often contemplating divircing DH so can get remarried and buy one. DH prefers a tenth anniversary celebratory Humanist blessing instead, may be easier

At least after 7+ years together he still wants to celebrate!!

alexsmum · 11/02/2006 18:20

haven't looked at dresses sorry but princess line dresses look great on us curvy girls-really flattering.shows off your hourglass shapewhile skimming over the bumpy bits.

PeachyClair · 11/02/2006 18:33
