Where can I find a knee length skirt for summer?

I have come to the sad realisation that I cannot get away with wearing shorts in public any more and am looking for a knee length skirt to wear on warm days when out and about. Unfortunately all the skirts I have seen are either too short - mid thigh length, or too long - mid calf length.

Please can anyone suggest a retailer who sells knee length summer skirts. I am pear shaped and have a waist that is 12 inches smaller than my hips (waist size 10, hip size 12) so most straight/pencil skirts just gape at the waist). This is why I don't want an online retailer as I need to try it on first.

Jigsaw, White Stuff, Fatface, L K Bennett, Wallis - basically anywhere not explicitly catering to the teenage or ultra-fashionable markets are your friends. As are Italian designers, who cater for women-shaped women.

I hate shorts and haven't worn them in 20 years.

Thanks. I have had a look in White Stuff, Fatface and Wallis, but nothing doing. L.K. Bennett is way out of my price range and we don't have a Jigsaw.

Boden have some in now - a-line types.

Bunbaker · 14/04/2012 19:17

Thanks Beattie, but I need to try skirts on first. Online shopping is no good to me.

Mango and Esprit are worth looking at for this length. I am particularly fussy in that I don't like A line, so it needs to be knee length and straight. A lot of shorter ones in Mango, but one or two that fit my criteria.

Bunbaker · 14/04/2012 19:22

No Mango and Esprit near me Sad. I have to have A line as straight skirts don't fit me.

Was also going to suggest Boden. They definitely do knee kength.

Online shopping with them is as painless as it can ever be. You can always get a code for free postage and returns as well ad a discount and can keep garments (unworn!) for ages - a year I think - before returning.

I looked at Boden, but didn't see anything I liked. Thanks for the suggestions though. Keep them coming.

Could you not buy online and return it if not suitable? Mistral is another one.

Bunbaker · 14/04/2012 19:31

It is a pain for me. I find that 99% of skirts/trousers gape far too much at the waist and I would be spending far too much on postage returning items. I find it easier to go shopping and try on loads of clothes instead.

Okay, do you have a department store near you? A Debenhams or a John Lewis?

wifeofdoom · 14/04/2012 19:36

M&Co have a couple of nice ones in.

Bunbaker · 14/04/2012 19:37

I have just looked at Debenhams website and don't like anything on there. No John Lewis and no M & Co.

Keep the suggestions coming though. I appreciate your help.

Warehouse seem to have a few - I guess it depends how tall you are as to how short they are?

Not everyone's cup of tea but there seem to be a few on the joules website

startail · 14/04/2012 19:59

East, silly £££, but a very pretty cream and grey knee length one.

Whitestuff returns are free.

LittlePandaBear · 14/04/2012 20:04

Monsoon have quite a few too...

Bunbaker · 14/04/2012 20:46

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I will pop into Warehouse next time I am in Meadowhall.
