BOOTS the shop - why is it so old fashioned

why has it not selfridges it self up a bit - why do they LOOK so dull? There used to be an out of town one near where i lived but even that was a bit supermarketty - why dont they have therapists and nail bars

Why is no 7 so dodgily branded - that needs a face lift.
there is SO much they could do with boots and they dont

I like Boots. The big one in our town centre has a beauty section with beauticians standing around - the Estee Lauder bunch are nicely dressed in red clothes. I bet if someone went to a local branch and pitched an idea of a nail bar they would jump at the chance. One of the Boots near me had a photographer taking professional pics of children the other day. I like Boots; it's my favourite place to go when I want retail therapy.

MsNorbury · 26/03/2012 14:47

i WISH it were like that
with make overs and demos and musci and FUNKY NESS

Our is very snazzy but I know of one that is very small and really fuddy duddy.

MightyNice · 26/03/2012 14:53

I hate Boots, their tv advertising campaigns are just so awful I really can't shop there and I don't remember ever feeling that way about any other high st shop

Hassled · 26/03/2012 14:56

But I LIKE the supermarketty feel of it. Department stores scare me. I don't want orange women helping me - I want to browse, and then make misguided purchases all on my own.

valiumredhead · 26/03/2012 14:59

Our Boots has orange women and men and they are very helpful - think it depends which store you go to.

Ryoko · 26/03/2012 15:05

The only thing I don't like about Boots is the prices.

The one in Westfield is awful it has the selfridges look and I hate it, I hate separate counters/islands for each brand and staff hovering around asking if you need any help etc.

I like the one in Ealing where the store is all white and simple and everything is lined up on long shelves so you can look at the lot without having to walk between the islands so to speak. And no one to pester you/break your train of thought when you are comparing things.

startail · 26/03/2012 15:10

Leave Boots alone. No overmade up sales staff glaring down at you, making you feel scruffy or embarrass to try the testers. No one judging whether or not my DDs are old enough to want make up. No one stoping us giggling at the outrageous or sluggiest of the colours.

I wear make up only occasionally and have both very cheap and some very nice stuff, but have no wish to do my general browsing being glared at by your normal department store make up woman.

Bienchen · 26/03/2012 16:29

I quite like Boots. I find their service very good and as previous poster said, staff are nonjudgmental. I can turn up scruffy after a hard day's graft and they will not bat an eyelid if I shop for cosmetics. Heck, the lady from Lancome regularly asks for advice from me .... Only scary thing is the lady from the Clarins counter, lots of caked on orange make up, so I never frequent her counter. Boots will take products back and refund if the item doesn't agree with me. I was recently overcharged in store (website had cheaper price) and was refunded and given extra points for the hassle I had.
I find that our local branch has quite a good selection. It is perfect for most of my everyday needs and occasionally I nip into a posh department store for the ultra glam brande not stocked in Boots.

EllenParsons · 26/03/2012 17:57

I love Boots. Ours has a few counters (Clinique, Estee Lauder) with people standing around ready to advise if necessary, the No 7 is on an island as well, they have a big perfume area and the rest is the more supermarket style format. Suits me fine, although saying that I would welcome a nail bar! I spend ages looking around Boots and most of the time I don't really need any help or people hovering but in my local Boots they are SO helpful if you do ask them anything.

Re No 7, it seems they have tried to rebrand it a bit with the Beautiful Skin stuff? I got a few bits of that with the vouchers. The face scrub is nice, have the face wash but not tried it yet.

anniewoo · 26/03/2012 18:42

I love Boots

QuinnFabray · 26/03/2012 18:43

I love Boots. It's very informal, you're left alone to browse, they have 3 for 2 offers on, ALL the time, and the Advantage Card is well worth having. I deliberately buy everything I can in Boots because of the points.

QuinnFabray · 26/03/2012 18:43

Oh, and I live on the Isle of Wight, so Boots is all we have.

QuinnFabray · 26/03/2012 18:44

No 7 is crap though.

margoandjerry · 26/03/2012 18:51

the last thing it should do is Selfridges itself up. Selfridges is flashy and overpriced with the world's worst sound system (pet peeve of mine - various different types of banging house music bleeding through from one department into another creating horrible and unintentional mash-up monstrosity).

Boots is not in the same space. It's a chemist shop, dispensing prescriptions, selling corn plasters, and throwing in the odd high margin range for the gullible where it can. If you have ever lived abroad, you will give thanks for Boots

wellwisher · 26/03/2012 20:11

As a company, Boots' strategy is to position itself as a solid, reliable healthcare and pharmacy specialist. It is not trying to be Selfridges. If you want fun, fashion and beauty, go to Superdrug - that's their focus.

monkeysmama · 26/03/2012 20:22

We have two low end ones in this bit of London. The website is what drives me crazy. It is the worst website of any high street retailer by a mile.

mosschops30 · 26/03/2012 20:26

I love Boots Smile
its one of those shops i pop into for some cotton wool pads and then come out with a huge bag and £50 poorer

I love it for cheap make up, my haircare stuff, baby stuff, its just nice to browse

MadameMessy · 26/03/2012 20:26

Oh I love boots! I bought my buggy from them, and when it broke after a few months, I took it back and they replaced it without a receipt, and gave me the ?90 of points too :)

SwedishEdith · 26/03/2012 20:29

Surely the world has enough nail bars already? I do not want them in Boots.

ameliagrey · 26/03/2012 20:56

I just HAte, yes Hate their Ta Da! slogan for No 7.

Somehow I find it patronising.

MsNorbury · 26/03/2012 21:00

I think it's dull. I want nails brows fake tan booths etc

Sootie · 26/03/2012 21:01

I always buy family birthday presents from Boots with my advantage card! Not crappy presents - but good quality designer perfumes and aftershaves. I like their clothes for children too - good quality stuff.

SwedishEdith · 26/03/2012 21:02

You don't. You're just being mischievous now

MyleeneCrass · 26/03/2012 21:03

I'd miss boots if it closed
