BOOTS the shop - why is it so old fashioned

MsNorbury · 26/03/2012 14:05

why has it not selfridges it self up a bit - why do they LOOK so dull? There used to be an out of town one near where i lived but even that was a bit supermarketty - why dont they have therapists and nail bars

Why is no 7 so dodgily branded - that needs a face lift.
there is SO much they could do with boots and they dont

It is also great for gifts for new parents - the voucher can buy almost anything they need ... photo frames, baby essentials, clothes

messagetoyourudy · 26/03/2012 21:33

Boots is fab - I am constantly amazed at how much I spend there given that I no longer have to buy nappies etc.

I enjoy buying nice shampoo & hair stuff, that will make my hair shine and whoosh. I enjoy buying various make-up bits, that will make me look young and with-it. I enjoy buying face scrubs & masks, that will make my skin sparkle. I enjoy buying vitamins that are going to make me full of zing. Where else would I buy these items?

Long live Boots!

stressheaderic · 26/03/2012 21:38

God I adore Boots, I'd be gutted if it ever went.
Like many on this thread, I want to browse in peace - not be glared at by pushy sales folk.
We have a small-ish one - no counters - it's a bit scruffy...but I love it. I hate nail bars.
Boots is just so quietly reliable, unlike Superdrug, it's shouty annoying younger sister.

Gumby · 26/03/2012 21:45

I don't see the need for it though

All cosmetics, shampoo etc can buy cheaper with weekly shop

It does have naice waitrose sarnies though

MsNorbury · 26/03/2012 21:52

I don't get the waitrose thing.
I find their toiletries mundane and badly presented.
Plus VITAMINS WHY? No one needs that shit.

Not everyone wants pretend nails and tans and to have everyone watch your eyebrows being shaped; some of us like it the way it is. May I suggest you go elsewhere for your fake body parts.

stressheaderic · 26/03/2012 21:59

I actually think Boots are often quite competitive on their everyday toiletries.

EllenParsons · 27/03/2012 00:09

"If you want fun, fashion and beauty, go to Superdrug" - You've got to be joking?!

Superdrug is just a much worse version of Boots, full of £1 junk bins and their perfume is usually just celebrity tat. Or is my Superdrug particularly bad, is it not like that where everyone else lives? I would never really go there unless they had an amazing deal on. It's not as nice a shop. I always prefer to go to Boots.

TheCraicDealer · 27/03/2012 01:02

I think Superdrug is the 'Fast Fashion' (thank you, Mary Portas) of cosmetics; in, out, cheap, brassy, makes you feel like you've got a bargain when in reality you've just bought a bright red eyeshadow you'll never wear again because it looks like you've contracted conjunctivitis.

I don't know why people think Boots is pricey, I love their 3 for 2 offers which always include the pricey brands as well as the budget ones. Ok, some of the stores might need updated a bit, but they're well set out with helpful staff. And the advantage card is the most generous reward scheme in the UK.

MeTheMog · 27/03/2012 05:16

Love, love, love Boots and it's one of my first ports of call when I come back to England. I live in a place where even the concept of a Boots style shop hasn't been imagined yet ........ :(

googietheegg · 27/03/2012 05:25

I live in France and boots is deffo high up on what I miss most. Here, you have to go to a pharmacy for ibuprofen or rennies, and even then you have to ask for them as they're behind the counter. You can buy plenty of fancy brands here but no cool everyday brands like Aussie or soap & glory. I sooo miss just browsing round boots. I contacted boots to see if they'd deliver to france mais non. They'd do so well though.

EldonAve · 27/03/2012 07:19

Boots tried with separate beauty shops a few years back but they failed and were closed. Can't remember what they were called, Pure Beauty?

valiumredhead · 27/03/2012 08:18

Superdrug is my last resort - it's like a tatty old market!

choceyes · 27/03/2012 11:58

Oh I love Boots! I love everything about it, even the kids clothes are nice. And the meal deals are great value.

HappyAsEyeAm · 27/03/2012 13:57

Oh I love Boots! I love the Advantage card and the Parenting Club (10 points per £1 on baby things including childrens clothes). I love their 3 for 2, and buy 1 item of clothing and get the second 1/2 price.

I think their baby clothes are really nice too.

And I love Soap and Glory and the fact that they stock the Sanctuary ranges (though I don't like the original range).

My local Boots is quite large and they seem to stock loads of stuff.

And I also love it when they do offers before Christmas where they give you and extra £10 of Advantage card points when you spend £50. One year, I spent £600 - eeeek. In fairness, I was pg with DS1 and bought things like a monitor, breast pump, high chair etc. It wasn't all on Estee Lauder products!

wildfig · 27/03/2012 14:53

Love Boots. They carry an amazing range of beauty products, from high end to complete bargain basement, and when you consider all the 3 for 2s and the £5 off vouchers, it's better value than the supermarkets. Given that they cater for a customer base that goes from 0 to 100, they're a remarkable British institution, and much less susceptible to the ill-advised, try-hard, fashion-chasing makeover that other institutions cough, M&S, cough are prone to...

Ryoko · 27/03/2012 14:57

Altho I only shop in boots when I have a voucher or there is a sale/3 for 2 on, I prefer it to Superdrug (tho I shop in Superdrugs more).

Just looks wise, Superdrugs is a mess, but I hate the one queue multiple tils system used by both now, in the case of the pair of them I have yet to see a store big enough to accommodate such a system, you are endlessly having to move to let people get down aisle.

Ryoko · 27/03/2012 14:59

Oh and I like number 7 it's image is simple and elegant whats wrong with that?
