the New Look (Marant lookalike) suede cowboy ankle boots ...

I caught a glimpse of myself wearing knee length boots and jeans the other day and realised that I look very 2001. I need boots to go with skinny jeans (and sometimes day dresses) and am on the point of ordering the New Look suede cowboy boots while size 5s are still in stock. I might get both the black and tan while they're half price. I have black, red and indigo skinny jeans so it would make sense to get two. I covet the Marant ones (in my dreams).

I can't link (on phone) but have any of you bought them and what did you think of them? They don't seem to be very high, but are they leg-lengthening (am short)?

I have the tan and I think they are great for the price. They aren't too high, pretty comfy and yes I find them leg lengthening. Only bugbear is the plastic soles, but they were only £30, so you can't have everything!

MrsCampbellBlack · 11/03/2012 08:54

Agree with Amber - very good for the price and the tan is less orange than it appears online.

Spookey80 · 11/03/2012 09:00

They are really nice, but for a more up to date look, maybe a Chelsea boot? Maybe a step too far? But great for in between seasons. What es everyone think? I am also feeling bit dated and old appreciate some ideas of what's a bit more now.

Hopefully · 11/03/2012 09:03

I rate them too. They didn't look great on my huge feet, but generally thought they were a great alternative to the Marants considering that they cost 10% of the price. And the Marants have a stupid thin leather sole.

FWIW, I have these aldo boots which are similar, and I absolutely love them.

Wow, thanks for all the responses!

Hopefully, yes I've seen the Marants IRL and the sole is more like a slipper thickness! I think they would last about 5 minutes on me.

Spookey I'll look at the chelsea boot option too, though I do need a heel and I currently have a thing for suede. I don't like straight round the top boots and I like that the NL ones seem to have a dip at the front, which would help lengthen legs (which is one of the reasons I covet the Marant ones).

MissMacross yes, I would have a go at wearing them with summer dresses (and my legs are pastier than most) so that vote of confidence sways me to buying them ...

Hopefully those Aldo boots are gorgeous. However, as I've realised that I am desperately dated and want to take emergency measures Grin I think I might get both the black and the tan NL boots as that really costs less than just the black version in the Aldo option?
However, now I've seen the Aldo ones I might have to compare them with the NL ones. I'll order them and see.

I don't want very heavy looking boots, so I hope they are like the Marants in softness.

What colour boots do you all wear with pastel skinnies? I love them but perhaps I could only wear them with pale coloured flats/courts?

I ordered the NL boots but theywere not for me. I would have preferred a darker more taupey sort of colour. Perhaps because I would only wear with skinny jeans. Good for the price though. The heel height was good. I am still on the look out for a similar pair. I got these from Asos, the colour and heel were great but fit very strange they would practically come off my foot as I was walking even though they were the right size

pluckingupcourage · 11/03/2012 16:14

thanks Partyhats, I am thinking that the black NL ones would be good with dark skinnies/grey skinnies. The tan ones would be good with blue summer dresses I think. I take heart from the fact that they are reported to be less red/orange.

I can imagine the ASOS boot problem - they also seem to have quite thick soles. I have long thin feet and I worry about walking out of my shoes (which, incidentally, I managed to do on my wedding day while walking up the aisle - really elegant. My feet seemed to have shrunk with nerves).

Hey plucking. Sorry if hijacking slightly but I ordered these from Aldo, but now thinking of these instead

The first ones are sooo comfy, and I've seen the second pair in RL (less orangy), but it's the whole skinnies with ankle boots I'm not sure of (do you tuck the skinnies into the boot, over etc?). Also agree that straight across at top have leg shortening potential....

pluckingupcourage · 11/03/2012 16:53

I quite like the second pair. I tried on the Marant ones (very spendy and wafer thin soles ... but a thing of beauty) and I tucked my skinnies kind of half in half out (like rosie huntington thingy does - there the similarity sadly ends).

[[http://tea-and-vegemite-toast.blogspot.com/2011/03/my-winter-wardrobe-woes.html like this?not middle pic (not that my legs would ever look like that!)

MooMinCow · 11/03/2012 17:03

try again

pluckingupcourage · 11/03/2012 17:06

yes that's it.

Have to say that I had DS2 with me when trying on the Marants and he kept pointing at them saying "fox, fox!!"

OP posts:
miche8 · 11/03/2012 17:11

i have a similar black pair from red or dead, i'm wondering too whether to tuck my skinny jeans in but then they wrinkle and bunch up round my ankles, not sure if i should fold them under to avoid this as the bunched up look was not good.

pluckingupcourage · 11/03/2012 17:37

yes (being short myself) I fold under some of my skinnies. Or just get them hemmed (if length is the problem).

on another note, are these any good (am on a New Look roll):

www.newlook.com/shop/womens/shoes/pointed-snakeprint-court-shoes_242936314?productFind=search

they're only £11 and might look good with some putty coloured skinnies I have my eye on ...

pluckingupcourage · 11/03/2012 23:19

OK, well for fear of them selling out, I've just ordered a pair of the black and a pair of the tan New Look Marant-alikes.

Haven't taken the plunge with the snake print courts however ...

OP posts:
MooMinCow · 12/03/2012 09:16

I ordered them too Plucking (baaa baaa). Will compare with the Aldo ones and finally decide which pair to keep (DH grumbling about the towers of shoe boxes in bedroom as I dither). Those snake print shoes are lovely - did you order them too?

pluckingupcourage · 12/03/2012 21:33

Great, MooMinCow we can compare notes.

As I didn't get the MN seal of approval (wanted to see if they were OK in real life) I didn't dive in to get the snake print heels. I do think they could be lovely and summery in a leg lengthening but not plain nude way. So I might get them. However it would mean paying postage (tight arse emoticon). Though if I keep both suede boots my stock of boots will have gone up by 200 per cent (literally years since I bought boots!).

Shoulda ordered the snake print heels ... popped into my local (tiny) new look after school drop off. There weren't any there.

OP posts:
MooMinCow · 12/03/2012 21:40

yay! well mine are on their way, so will report back. I think you can have stuff sent to your local store for free (think minimum spend of £20/30). I haven't seen those snakeskin ones in my local store either. Sad

I always order more to get free delivery and return the excess (tight wad emoticon needed!)

monkeysmama · 12/03/2012 21:50

If you don't get on with the NL boots, Zara have some too. They look lovely on.

pluckingupcourage · 12/03/2012 23:11

oooh, I love Zara ....

I feel a new boot obsession (twirl)

Had a despatch email from new look this morning had a small squeal

Today I was shopping in Matches and the manager asked me of my boots were Dickers. She was amazed when I told her they were £30 copies! Mark of a good knock off!
