Going to Bristol next week. I have about £400 to spend and I need the following:

Bras (30D so awkward size to find, but have already been pointed in the right directionfor these)
Knickers
Something to go on my feet with jeans (not skinny jeans)
Jeans (not skinny jeans)
Handbag (leather, probably tan coloured, across body style, nice and roomy)
Earrings (silver, something for everyday, but not studs)
Light spring Jacket (would prefer something a bit longer than waist length to keep skirts and dresses in place on windy days!)

I would really appreciate and suggestions or reccomendations for shops to visit, or any online links. Most high street stores are there I should think.

I'm about 5'3" and about a size 8. Please please help, this is the first time in my life I've ever had enough money to go out and actually buy this stuff from scratch and not just make do with the local NewLook, and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. Don't know where to start!

anyone? please?

I saw this the other day and it looked really nice

redhappy · 09/03/2012 19:18

That looks lovely. What sort of size was it? I can't see anywhere on the website.

OP posts:
faustina · 09/03/2012 19:21

it wasn't enormous - not the size of a bayswater or anything, but it wasn't tiny either. I had a feel and it was really lovely leather - soft and squashy

faustina · 09/03/2012 19:22

are you sure it isn't on the website? Doesn't that link go to it?

redhappy · 09/03/2012 19:28

Yes, it doesn't give dimensions though. Well, I couldn't find them to be more exact!

OP posts:
faustina · 09/03/2012 19:29

this is very nice too

faustina · 09/03/2012 19:29

oh I see - perhaps you could phone them to ask?

redhappy · 09/03/2012 19:30

Really I want this but it's a bit out of month price range.

redhappy · 09/03/2012 19:33

I'm going shopping in the flesh, but nice to do some virtual window shopping first for ideas. Really I'm just savouring the experience.

When I saw your first link my first reaction was eeek at the price, but then I realised that's where I am now. Thinking about my shopping list and budget that's about the right amount for a bag.

OP posts:
faustina · 09/03/2012 19:36

oh dear - yes it is rather. I have got the Mae bag from last season, and it's lovely - perhaps you could wait for the sale when they might reduce it? I bought my mimi berry bag from this website: www.prettyandwitty.co.uk - perhaps they would have something else there? Really good choice, and customer service

faustina · 09/03/2012 19:45

how about this

MrsCampbellBlack · 09/03/2012 19:51

Agree with faustina - jigsaw have some really lovely bags.

Where abouts in Bristol are you shopping or are you going to do Park Street and Cabots?

Are you after straight leg jeans? I know people rate Oasis and French Connection for jeans or if you're after a premium brand - Harvey Nichols have a good selection. But don't buy them there - find the style you like and order from shopbop for normally about half the price.

redhappy · 09/03/2012 19:51

I like it, although I think the more structured the shape the smaller I prefer it.

I surprised myself on the other website you linked to, I really liked this which is not what I thought you wanted at all.

OP posts:
redhappy · 09/03/2012 19:51

What I thought I wanted!

Bristol has pretty much everything...house of Fraser, Debenhams, harvey nicks and all the usual high st shops eg Dorothy Perkins, Zara, h&m, top shop, oasis, warehouse, next etc etc. Most shops are situated in Cabot circus but gap, marks and spencer, primark (which is huge!),and Debenhams are in broadmead which is literally a minute away.

For bras I would probably head to Debenhams as they have a big lingerie dept and a good selection of brands.

Shoe shop wise there's a schuh and jones in Cabot circus or a clarks and office in broadmead.

Jeans I tend in get in gap although it's not a huge gap so not sure how much choice they'll have in sizes.

Handbags, there's a radley and an ollie and nic.

Have a lovely time. Any more questions about Bristol, let me know.

redhappy · 09/03/2012 19:57

I was planning to do both I think MrsCampbellBlack in fact I'm looking for suggestions of where to go.

Is there a House of Fraser in Bristol? I like their Therapy brand.

Yes straight leg jeans I think. I want something I can wear small heeled boots with, or a pair of converse, or some ballet pumps in the summer. I am small-framed, very slim legs. For jeans I wanted something from the high street so it's easy to get hold of more once I find the right fit. I was planning to try Gap, will add Oasis and French Connection to the list.

Ah crossposted.

I am avoiding primark! Moving towards having a few really clothes I love and always feel good in rather than lots of clothes I never want to wear because they are poor quality and cheap, and neither make me look or feel good.

redhappy · 09/03/2012 20:07

Actually the bit I probably need the most help with is shoes.

What do you wear with normal jeans? Straightlegs, but not tight. I do a lot of walking (don't drive) so I need something comfortable. I also need some shoes to wear everyday with dresses whilst it's still tights weather.

I like these shoes, but I'm size 5.5 so I'm a bit wary about buying shoes I haven't tried on.

QueenCadbury · 09/03/2012 20:08

My sentiments exactly red happy! When I first moved to Bristol I was so excited by the size of the primark, now I just find it overwhelming and tend to avoid!

QueenCadbury · 09/03/2012 20:10

I wear converse with jeans. You should find some similiar to that link in schuh or office.

redhappy · 09/03/2012 20:11

I went to the Cheltenham one a few weeks ago (also quite big) and I didn't want a single thing in there! That's a first for me. I came home and threw away nearly everything in my wardrobe! Haven't replaced anything yet, content to wait until I can buy something I really want and stop wasting my money

OP posts:
redhappy · 09/03/2012 20:12

Yes Converse is on the list... I really want the sort of maroony coloured ones, but I think navy will be more practical and versatile.

Have just skimmed through the bags bit of this thread but wanted to say I saw this the other day and it was really quite nice, poss not in the same league as the others though..
tk maxx

redhappy · 09/03/2012 20:16

I would like a lightweight jacket like this, but a bit prettier. The skirt part needs to be a bit shorter and the collar a bit softer.
