Grrr! Have now ordered a dress and they've added another nice one! Which do you prefer?

As Pepperberry? Bravissimo clothes usually fit me, and based on DH's reaction Hmm I ordered this (it hasn't arrived yet)

grey dress

which I love the shape of but not sure about the colour.

The website has new dresses added today, and I like the colour of this one but less sure about the shape:

blue dress

Which is nicer for a wedding? Should I order the blue as well and send back whichever I don't like?

If I stick with the grey, what accessories should I go for? was thinking something like plum or deep raspberry, eg these shoes

I much prefer the grey dress and the shoes you linked to will look fabulous. Good choices all round :)

Tonksforthememories · 05/03/2012 16:29

I prefer the grey too, am even going to see if DH will treat me to it! :o

TheLastNameLeft · 05/03/2012 16:36

Love that website!

another vote for the grey too, looks very flattering

mrsmartin · 05/03/2012 16:45

The grey is my top choice (though the blue woul be better if you have a tummy...I'm a 12 and would prob buy the print (of the first dress) to disguise my pot bellyBlush) Can totally see why your DH likes it Grin!!! If you want to wear a shoe then a pop of colour would look great...I think with that grey I would probably wear a silver-grey silk shoe (but I have a very classic french/italian sense of style). If it was darker I would probably wear a ponyskin leopard print high court.

Inertia · 05/03/2012 17:53

Thank you style gurus for the vote of confidence! Hoping the grey dress will suit me now .

The shoes are not a colour I'd normally wear - bright colours make me nervous! Mrsmartin- I actually have some suitable dark grey shoes, but I'm conscious that the bridesmaid dresses are going to be dark charcoal grey, so I tried to avoid grey from the outset, and think that I'll probably need accessories that are quite a contrast (even though I should think the BM dresses will be very different in style). Leopard print is not really me, but I can see how it would work (prints in general don't suit me unfortunately, though I did think about it in terms of avoiding grey).

The reason(s) for it's popularity among DHs are fairly apparent, aren't they? Wish I had the figure to match - am working on the pot belly though. I did also like this purple dress but think the tummy is a bit too uncompromising.

OP posts:
mrsmartin · 05/03/2012 18:50

I meant a muted silver...though if the bridesmaids are in that clour palette then coloup pop is definately the way to go. A slimming dress would help with the pot belly and would stop the bulges created by the back of your bra and your knickers. Either that or just go commando (sure that DH would really like the dress then!!!Grin)

mrsmartin · 05/03/2012 18:50

colour Hmm

ooer · 05/03/2012 19:26

I have the first style in the print and it's ridiculously flattering ...!

MsF1t · 05/03/2012 19:28

The grey is lovely- but only you can really know which will suit you, given your figure and colouring. Can you order the blue and then try them both on at home before making your mind up?

MsF1t · 05/03/2012 19:30

And dear God, no, not plum or raspberry shoes. Please.

Inertia · 05/03/2012 20:10

MsF1t - what colour accessories would you suggest? Am very much open to suggestions .

Mrs Martin - I have both invisible pants and super control shorts to try :)

As the grey is on the way I will see what it looks like on, and then try the blue if I am not convinced.

OK, having a look (clearly I am bored this evening!) at the Debenhams website: not majorly exciting stuff, but how about these for starters: 'Lotty' platfrom sandals

Silver beaded peeptoes

I'd be tempted to get www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_56308+2080624490_-1?breadcrumb=Home~Women~Shoes+%26amp%3B+boots~High+heel+shoesthese and have them dyed to match...

Or something like this? (Not sure on colour, though.)

Or for a bit of cute eccentricity..

Or these, p'raps?

Or, if you wanted a spot of vibrant colour... (would need to have a matching accessory/scarf or something)

Must. Stop. Looking. At. Shoes. Now... Confused

MsF1t · 05/03/2012 20:22

If going for a colour accessory though, would wait until you see the actual colour. It looks quite a warm grey in the picture, in which case, maybe even a warm metallic (gold? Bronzy?) might work. Didn't see anything quite right on the website.

Obviously the other factor is your colouring...

mrsmartin · 05/03/2012 20:27

I personally think the majority of those shoes are quite 'old lady' - though the roland m ones are nice - don't dye them to match though!!!!

If you go black then go black suede (either round or peep toe) - patent is too harsh with jersey and satin is too old-fashioned.

try ebay outlet...you could get a gorgeous lk bennet pair for less than the cost of a debenhams home brand. Or let us know your shoe size so we can make suggestions! Grin

MsF1t · 05/03/2012 21:47

Meh. I'm a vintage fan, so not up on what the yoofs think is fashionable... what's your pick?

mrsmartin · 05/03/2012 22:20

I have a very classic taste though...I guess I meant 'mumsy' more than anything. I worked with shoes for years and am a tad obsessed (excited as I get a walk in shoe closet next week)...Those shoes are just the type I would put a stylish nana in, rather than a still sexy lady.

OP - come back and tell us more about yourself...age (range!), will you wear bare legs, how high a heel do you want...

MsF1t · 05/03/2012 22:27

Really? You learn something new every day! Funny, I would wear some of those probably, and I'm far from old and not especially conventional (I have a few pairs of Irregular Choice and Ayya wear boots). Mind you, I then tend to compensate in the other direction for other people's tastes, so maybe I went a bit too far..!

I agree, though- we need to know more about the OP's colouring, build, taste etc. :)

Walk-in shoe closet?

mrsmartin · 05/03/2012 22:34

ready to be more jealous...?

I have over 550 pairs Blush

MsF1t · 05/03/2012 22:47

There are no words. Is your name Imelda by any chance..? Grin

mrsmartin · 05/03/2012 22:52

told you i was obsessed...Blush

Inertia · 05/03/2012 23:40

Sorry , haven't been back on yet this evening. Thank you MsF for all the suggestions, will have a proper look on PC later. Though I am really not a bright colours person , I am worried about looking monochrome. I love blue , and wondered about navy or midnight blue accessories.

I am in awe of your shoe expertise MrsM. There is little hope for me on the stylish shoe front -I am somebody who goes for functional rather than beautiful. To answer questions - I am late 30s, size 14, shorter than average, unappealing legs in the manner of a Sunday League footballer (am I sounding like a style icon yet? :) ), fair to mousy colouring. Not especially daring . Tend to wear heels very rarely ( usually go for a chunk heel boot) . Bare legs are ideally to be avoided (they are beyond redemption TBH) so suggestions for alternatives welcome.

OP posts:
Inertia · 05/03/2012 23:43

Oh, and 'still sexy lady' made me laugh ironically and bitterly while considering post children wobbles and David Batty legs

OP posts:
mrsmartin · 05/03/2012 23:54

Grin ah inertia - I'm sure it's not so bad - nothing a good soak in the bath, a layer of faux tan and a microfishnet can't fix! If you aren't too steady then a kitten heel black suede peep toe is the safe option - better to walk properly in little heels than wobble in high ones!

Other than that we need to see what the tone of the dress is (as msF said) as that will determine what kind of colour you go for.
