So... if you needed a large, possibly tan, leather bag; what would you get?

I need ideas for a large (large enough to fit in an A4 folder or two plus other detritus) leather shoulder bag, probably tan. Not cross body.

Any suggestions from all ends of the budget spectrum most welcome; this quest seems to have lasted years...

I'd go for a Mulberry Bayswater in oak boring

Russianred · 24/02/2012 19:39

I have the Mulberry Alexa Hobo in tan - bought for half price last year and still available in Mulberry Outlet stores. I love it.

permaquandry · 24/02/2012 19:54

Whistles have a lovely tote in tan. Not too pricey. Would say Mulberry Bayswater - beautiful, classic bag but check how heavy it would be with a folder etc in. Def try them out for weight before buying. Let us know what you buy!

www.peonyandmoore.com/product_info.php?cPath=0_12&products_id=160 oops not sure about the A4 folder though - - need to check the measurements but what a nice bag!Wink
Red Direct have some nice ones at the moment too - - - depends if you want casual or smart?www.reddirect.co.uk/p/Bags_Tote/BD2-01.htm

OllieinOrange · 24/02/2012 20:09

Massimo Dutti has a few large tans ones at the moment look here

tethersend · 24/02/2012 20:22

Thanks for the ideas Smile

Was considering getting a fake bayswater, but I just find Mulberry stuff a bit dull. Or maybe classic?

perma, some ok ones in Whistles, thanks- nothing leaps out at me though.

Not keen on Peony and Moore stuff, sorry bunions. Cheers for looking.

Ollie, great tip about Massimo Dutti- not looked there before. Am loving this Chloe rip-off, but don't think it would fit on my shoulder...

Massimo Dutti bags seem to be v good quality (and they have some great tops as well!) Zara has some huge bags in at the moment too?

permaquandry · 24/02/2012 20:36

Yes, I'd say Zara too, they have great styles, plus the fabric always looks expensive but rarely is. You cannot beat a Mulberry for quality tho. Good luck in your quest. I'm after a medium black one with no metalwork, so lemmeno if u find one on ur travels!

tethersend · 24/02/2012 20:39

Not keen on any in Zara at the mo- want something a bit more robust than a shopper I think.

I'll keep my eyes peeled, perma Wink

Wicked, ta. I'll do the same for you. If it's not a shopper you want then I reckon you'll have to pay a bit for a good quality one. Have you looked at the Pied a Terre ones in HoF? Stlying is good, tho, again, watch the weight. I bought one with matching purse and is so heavy, I can't use it.

Also, not somewhere I personally shop often for clothes but I often notice decent tan bags in M+S. Limited Coll or Autograph?

doglover · 24/02/2012 20:50

Scaramanga bags are fab!

madammecholet · 24/02/2012 21:09

Like the look of the Massimo Dutti ones, heading to Knightsbridge next weekend for a touchy feel session..... you looked at Red Direct? they have some nice ones in atm.. Zara ones always fall apart.

Im a Peony & Moore fan, but I know you're not.... how about Russell & Bromley they always have nice stuff, and I love the new Longchamps one..I'll go find it..:)

madammecholet · 24/02/2012 21:30

LesserOfTwoWeevils · 25/02/2012 00:43

This which I have been trying to find an excuse to buy.
Or equally deliciously, this.

blackcurrants · 25/02/2012 01:17

I"m a bit obsessed with Hobo International at the moment -do they ship to the UK? I want this one but this one is great too. waaaaant.

madammecholet · 25/02/2012 15:39

tethers Where'd yooouuuu gooooooooooooooo!?!?!

Indith · 25/02/2012 15:52

Dh has just got me this as my birthday present (just 5 months late!). Suede not leather but it is lovely, it seems very good quality. I wanted something big enough for all the child related crap (and I can easily fit 3 or 4 cloth nappies plus a couple of changes of clothing and snacks for the big ones in it without it looking stupidly full) that would go on to see me through going back to uni (fingers crossed I get a place) and it will take files etc.

Indith · 25/02/2012 15:55

Shock they now do it in leather! They didn't when we ordered mine, must be new. Slightly grumpy now, I'd have rather had it in leather!

MadameOvary · 25/02/2012 15:58

I bloody love this beauty and I have a Bayswater.

Bucharest · 25/02/2012 16:34

I love the one MadameOvary links to.

Lazydaisy55 · 25/02/2012 18:02

hathoninreddress

thanks for that link, I have just bought one. Great ethics behind the bag as well.
