What's the best mascara you've ever used?

Have tried a few- Max Factor, Maybelline, No 7 etc but never found one I massively rate.

They all make the same claims- bigger, thicker, longer, false eyelash effect etc, but do any of them actually deliver?

I rely on my eyelash curlers and Max Factor. For me the curlers do the real work

Sl1nkyMalinki · 22/02/2012 22:38

I'm a cheapskate with mascara and refuse to spend too close to £10! I love maybelline falsies, longer and thicker lashes in a couple of strokes. No clumps either! The waterproof version is also really good.

HappyCamel · 22/02/2012 22:41

Actually Barbara what's-her-face from Tesco s a fab mascara with a natural look, for about £5 it's amazing value. I replace every few monts when it starts to clump.

Msarsebiscuit · 22/02/2012 22:44

As a fully paid up mascara tart I have tried Hypnose, Definicils, Bad Gal, Diorshow, YSL False Lash Effect, Clinique High Impact, Masterpiece and have yet to find my holy grail mascara, currently trying out They're Real ( not bad ) but mainly still using Bourjois Fast & Volume - whacking great lashes, nice curl and stayed put throughout recent weeping.

mrsmartin · 22/02/2012 22:44

my mally one definately isn't much of a muchness imo - most other mascaras I would be inclined to agree and the brush makes a massive difference but the mally one seems to have teensy black shiney particles (not glittery) in it that give the effect of having powdered lashes and then coated them again. It is a very obvious look but I heart it.

Msarsebiscuit · 22/02/2012 22:47

Ah, wicked MrsMartin, now I want to try Mally mascara.

ms biscuit Mall is on qvc tomorrow at 1, 4 and 8pm - take a look if you get the chance and you will see what I mean about 'wow' lashes - it is not a mascara for those who want a natural look...which most days I don't Grin

Msarsebiscuit · 22/02/2012 22:57

MrsMartin, the more drag queen my eyelashes, the happier I am

muffinino82 · 22/02/2012 22:58

Benefit 'Yes, They're Real' is amazing. Don't listen to the counter girls, they will lash it on for around 5 minutes. I just use a brush or two and it looks amazing. Was never a big fan of mascara before I got this but now I love it Grin

mrsmartin · 22/02/2012 23:05

msbiscuit you will love it...

Cheeseandbiscuits · 22/02/2012 23:07

Another Lancôme hynpose here!

ameliagrey · 23/02/2012 09:07

I've been faithful to LANCME Hypnose for about 3 years. recently I tried Maybelline The Falsies- purple tube- and was impressed.

I have hardly any lashes so need length and volume.

If you want more info have a look at Sali Hughes column in the Guardian- you'll have to google as i haven't got the link- she has a short list of mascaras and how to apply- and they aren't all the same- it's the brushes that make the differnece.

tiredemma · 23/02/2012 09:14

Clinique. Gah it was crap. It coated my eyelashes in a n odd way that made me 'develop a habit of 'peeling' it off with my fingers.

awful.

I use Maybelline now. Gives me 'come to bed eyes' (I hope)

MooMinCow · 23/02/2012 09:35

Mrsmartin - I heart Mally mascara too! The brush is bristle-y (can't abide those rubbery things) compact yet dense enough to apply thin clump free coats. I used to like Diorshow and MAC Plushlash, but think the Mally one is the best so far. Mrsmartin - have hot tried any of her other products? Am tempted by her Cancellation concealer.

Agree a lot depends on application. I don't always curl, but Tweezerman metal lash comb is essential for non clumpy lashes IMO

Livingwiththefamished · 23/02/2012 17:10

Just bought ysl false lashes on everyone's recommendation, in Boots they have a pack with a sample of make up remover and eye cream for £22!

mrsmartin · 23/02/2012 17:16

Moomin don't want to hijack the thread and start gushing about mally so I'll start a new one this evening...I'll call it something along the lines of 'slightly obscure make up brands I love' Grin

MooMinCow · 23/02/2012 17:19

mrsmartin - it's a date Wink will pick your brains later!

FabMum1 · 23/02/2012 20:14

Which Mally mascara?

mrsmartin · 23/02/2012 20:20

The volumising one in the white tube...

MegIet · 23/02/2012 20:25

Revlon 3 day lash tint. Which they discontinued Sad Angry.

It was great stuff, just layered it on and could be topped up every day or so. Never needed taking off and lasted 3 days at a time. Even with contacts / swimming / gym it was ok.

I've not worn mascara since and I feel so naked without it. But I refuse to mess around taking it off every day. I've tried but it's just another faffy thing I have to remember.

I did hear that the new Tesco beauty hall has an Italian brand that works in the same way so I might try that.

FabMum1 · 23/02/2012 20:27

Thanks mrsm Smile

mrsmartin · 23/02/2012 20:31

meg - why don't you try the 30 day mascara

Fab no worries - just make sure you are patient removing it - it can be a bugger!!!

LittlePandaBear · 23/02/2012 20:33

Bourjous clubbing mascara ultra black is great if you like really thick mascara - makes lashes loads thicker and longer but then I use a comb brush so it's not as clumpy! Bit of a pain to get off but it's great for a night out! I've been asked if I'm wearing falsies when wearing it!

BlackSwan · 23/02/2012 20:34

Never heard of mally. Ysl faux cils for me. But Chanel inimitable is nice for daytime wear. Zero clumps.
