Anything that makes eye liners and shadows last more than 30 mins ?

didireallysaythat · 02/02/2012 21:02

I'm looking for something (anything) that will make eye colour stay to stay.

I left for the school run with silver/pink eyeshadow. I returned 30 mins later with no colour left.

And this is using Benefit Stay Don't Stray.

Bobbi Brown's long wear eye liner - 1 hour max.
MAC's eye liner - usually makes it to lunch time.

Is the only solution a felt tip pen ?

I've only just started using Estee Lauder double wear eye liner and it's been fine so far

TheSpreadingChestnutTree · 02/02/2012 21:14

Don't take this the wrong way, but is your skin really greasy? Or do you put your make up on just after your moisturiser? Or do you keep rubbing your eyes?

Jazzicatz · 02/02/2012 21:17

You need an eye makeup primer. The best I think is by Urban Decay and is about £14.

OliviaMumsnet · 02/02/2012 21:21

chestnut tree - how long do you have to wait after moisturiser then?

TheSpreadingChestnutTree · 02/02/2012 21:25

Until it's been absorbed. Prob about 5 to 10 mins should do it. Or you could just put a bit of loose powder on, then swish off the excess to soak up any residual oil.

WipsGlitter · 02/02/2012 21:27

Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner. I have tried everything else. This is the best - as recommended by mumsnet.

RubyrooUK · 02/02/2012 21:33

I use Mac's liquid liner - Liquilast. I have trouble ever getting it off my face at all.

And I find only Mac or Urban Decay shadows last on my eyes for some reason.

The best kohl sticks I've found are also Urban Decay but it's hard to track them down.

CuriousMama · 02/02/2012 21:35

Urban decay here think i'll get one as I have the same problem.

BrianButterfield · 02/02/2012 21:36

Another Urban Decay fan - it's one of the few products I buy again and again. Worth every penny.

JJ · 02/02/2012 21:40

For eyeliner, I use By Terry Ligne Blackstar - as long as I let it dry properly, it doesn't come off.

JJ · 02/02/2012 21:41

Sorry - meant to say it's just like a felt tip pen! Grin

CMOTDibbler · 02/02/2012 21:44

Liquilast is a beggar to get off, so perfect if your makeup tends to escape. I often use MAC eyeshadow and an angled brush instead of eyeliner which is longlasting too.

I'm finding that BB cream is a pretty good base and isn't causing eyeshadow creasing/removal, so try that instead of moisturiser etc.

RecursiveMoon · 02/02/2012 21:46

I don't get bloody eyeliner. How can everyone else look fabulous wearing it, but I can't even get it to go in properly Envy? I even bought a Bare Escentials (sp?) eye kit whatsit to teach myself to do it, but it just said to put it above your upper lashes in a clean line. When I try that, I just get a powdery, bitty, non-clean mess.

lilolilmanchester · 02/02/2012 21:48

I second eye primer for eyeshadow. Urban Decay is good, I find the Barbara Daly@tesco primer just as good and a fraction of the price. It's a bit thicker but added bonus for the "more mature" of us is that it helps mask the crepiness of old eyes!
As SpreadingChestnutTree said, make sure you moisturiser or eye cream is well soaked in before applying - at least 10 mins (advised by makeup artists to leave 10 mins on face before applying foundation too). Also, if you're like me and end up removing mascara from under your eyes in the morning (Blush), obviously make sure you've wiped any residual makeup remover away otherwise it will continue to do its job!

TheScarlettPimpernel · 02/02/2012 21:48

Have you tried Benefit Shelaq?

It was recommended to me by a stripper Grin

It goes on over eyeliner like fecking superglue. i mean seriously it does not shift. It is very much just for eyeliner though - you couldn't put it over your whole lid/eyeshadow or i think it would dry 'em rigid..

Xmasbaby11 · 02/02/2012 21:50

Liquid eyeliner stays on for hours, if not days - even Boots no 7 or similar cheap one.

MrsBovary - is it the EL double wear pencil you are using, or is it something else ? I've got a double wear pencil - lasts a couple of hours before disappearing.

TheSpreadingChestnutTree - no offense taken ! I usually get the moisturiser on as soon as I've washed my face in the morning, then we have breakfast so it's probably about 30 mins before I go back upstairs to do my teeth and my face so I think it's probably done. I do use eye cream, but I've started just using it at night just in case that was making nothing stick.

WipsGlitter - Bobbi Brown works for everyone. Except me. I'm selling my pot on ebay for a £1 if you're interested.

RubyrooUK and CMOTDibbler - I haven't tried liquilast nor MAC's eye shadows (I find the MAC counter ladies absolutely bloody terrifiying) but given that MAC fluid line the only thing that vaguely lasts anytime, I'm very tempted to put a couple of heads of garlic around my neck and give it a go.

And Urban Decay appears popular - I'm guess it's the eyeshadow primer potion (around £14.50) - I shall seek it out online.

Many thanks - and keep the suggestions flowing !

Buy the original UD Primer Potion (in a purple tube) not the coppery one.

Pannacotta · 02/02/2012 22:14

I put some M&S liquid eyeliner on this morning and its still there now!

southeastastra · 02/02/2012 22:15

i don't think anything will last longer that 8 hours at the most unless you tattoo it on Grin

i've found no7 liquid stays and using a shadow then cream eyeliner or shadow stays too.

i use shadow under eyes with a mac liner and that lasts for longer than usual

Laambkins · 02/02/2012 22:16

I find my MAC liquid liner difficult to get off on a night - its the one in the little black tube with a little brush.

didireallysaythat · 02/02/2012 22:24

Xmasbaby11 - I am the exception to the rule. Regular eyeliner doesn't stay on me. And I don't think I spend all my time rubbing my eyes.

I don't know where the stuff goes. I don't end up with panda eyes. It just disappears - it's magic.

RecursiveMoon - I bought a slanted brush from MAC which really helps - instead of drawing a line which I can just about manage for my right eye but doesn't horribly wrong for my left eye (I just look like I got half way through doing my make up and then some gave me a black eye) using the brush, I just sort of dip it in and jab.

TheScarlettPimpernel - any other tips your stripper friend gave you you'd like to share ? I'm intrigued...

The Urban Decay primer potion and thier 24/7 liners are fab, you have to scrub thier eye liner off. If you get them you should invest in thier sharpener too, other sharpeners just make the pencil fall to pieces but thier one sharpens them brilliantly.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 02/02/2012 22:26

Don't put moisturiser on. I use No 7 stay perfect kohl pencil and eyeshadow and it lasts about 16 hours.
