Anything that makes eye liners and shadows last more than 30 mins ?

I'm looking for something (anything) that will make eye colour stay to stay.

I left for the school run with silver/pink eyeshadow. I returned 30 mins later with no colour left.

And this is using Benefit Stay Don't Stray.

Bobbi Brown's long wear eye liner - 1 hour max.
MAC's eye liner - usually makes it to lunch time.

Is the only solution a felt tip pen ?

I only put moisturiser on my forehead and cheeks. If I didn't, my foundation would be funny. I don't put it anywhere near my eyes...

I've tried the No 7 pencil - in fact I got the ladies in boots to put it on me as I said I wasn't going to buy something that didn't work without trying it first. When I popped back in Boots an hour or two later it had completely gone. She was amazed....

I'm coming to the conclusion that regular eyeliners/shadows work for a lots of women, long stay eyeliners/shadows work for lots of women, and then there's me. I think Ronseal maybe an option. I don't need it to last 24 hours, but it would be nice to make it to lunchtime !

No, it's the zero-smudge liquid eyeliner. In saying that there's little trace of it now, but I did rub my eyes earlier.

Olivia!

I am copying this so I can refer back easily when I go to buy it:
Buy the original UD Primer Potion (in a purple tube)
(thanks BrianButterfly and everyone else)

Mac have a product called prep+prime eye which helps everything stick.

iamabadger · 03/02/2012 18:09

I use Mac paint in bare canvas under my powder eyeshadow, think having something creamy under gives it something to stick too. It comes in a few other nude-type colours too.

Does anyone know how to make the damn stuff last on your lower lashline/waterline?

A Greek lass I used to work with would pass the tip of the pencil through a flame, but she was a raven-haired 22 year old and I'm a pasty English rose of 32 - i just want a bit of brownish definition, like.

JJ · 03/02/2012 18:21

Try the By Terry liner - seriously, it's like permanent marker. I mean it's literally just like a thin tipped permanent marker - it could actually be one in a nice gold package for all I know. It really stays on. If you have a Space NK by you, stop by and try it and wear it for a while.

TheScarlettPimpernel · 03/02/2012 18:24

Ooo thanks for that JJ. I've heard lots about this By Terry bidnit. It always sounded like really camp makeup for drag queens, which of course increases its allure if anything Grin

OliviaMumsnet · 03/02/2012 20:14

ooh that by terry one looks so pretty but i made the mistake at looking for the per 100ml price Shock

I use the Urban Decay primer and the UD pencils, and they last from 7 am to 10pm. I definitely reccomend them.

didireallysaythat · 03/02/2012 21:23

Ok - urban decay it is.

Where's the best place to get it online (16 month old, 5 year old, live in the middle of nowhere, can't face going into the city on Saturday with a stroller..)

Now if only I could find a magic foundation/powder that made me look well, rather than someone who's about to come down with the flu....

i have recently bought some nars eyeshadows and they stay put for ages. really lovely colours too

Rikalaily · 03/02/2012 21:57

I used to get UD from Boots but they don't stock it anymore, the only other places that sell it in the UK are Debenhams and House Of Fraser. You can get it on Ebay but there is alot of fake stuff out there so not worth the risk. Mentioned this earlier in the thread but if you get the UD 24/7 liners you really really need thier grindhouse sharpener too, it's the only one (has anyone found a different sharpener that can sort out these liners?) that I've found that didn't grind the pencil to dust, they are very very delicate when being sharpened. You can get this online for about £4.50.

hifi · 08/02/2012 20:54

I have a nars one,you have about 2mins to work it in then it stays,I still have traces 2 days after.

NigellaLawless · 08/02/2012 21:02

You can keep absolutely any eye make up in place with hairspray!

Once your make up is applied and dried close your eyes lightly (i.e. not scrunching) then spray hairspray over your eye lids, wait a few moments until you feel its dried (I tend to flap my hands in front of my eyes at this point in the belief it makes it dry quicker) then open eyes and off you go.

I first heard this technique in a queue for a rock club about 16 years ago when two (male) goths were chatting about make up techniques Grin

I have really oily skin and this technique has kept my make up (nothing special just rimmel and barry m) in place for hours, in fact its even kept it in place during roller derby practices which is basically 2 hours of sweating to death.

Just beware of putting too much hairspray on as it can make you feel a bit frozen around the eyes

strictlovingmum · 08/02/2012 21:10

Mally eye lid base at www.qvc.co.uk apply to the eye lids and then any eye liner or eye pencil will stay put all day long without smudging or disappearing altogether.Smile
I use it every day, and best of all I don't need any eye shadow any more, it is truly fabulous stuff.

geraldine62 · 08/02/2012 22:41

I am a lone voice here but I really dislike the Urban Decay eye primer - it makes my lids look even more crepey than they actually are and doesn't seem to make eye make up look better/last longer. Agree that the By Terry eyeliner is like permanent bloody marker. When I tried it on my hand in Space NK the girl couldn't get it off with the cleanser she'd recommended for me, which made me worry about how I would get it off my eyes

tharsheblows · 09/02/2012 06:44

geraldine, I use this as eye makeup remover- it gets off everything.
