Please can anyone recommend me a shampoo to kill greasy hair? I am prepared to throw money at the problem!

My hair is a nuisance! On day one it's great, day two it's iffy and by day three it looks like something you could roast potatoes on.

I really need something to give me that elusive third day! I've got a young dc and it's really not convenient having to wash and blow dry it every other day.

I'm on Tigi Catwalk volumising stuff at the minute, and it's just awful. The first day is brilliant but by the end of day two it's yucky.

I never use conditioner.

Pleeeeeease can anyone help me? I'm considering washing my hair in Fairy, that's how bad it is!

Just with the conditioner comments, just thought i would add that you shouldn't put conditioner any where near your scalp, it's for the ends of your hair only. Also you should shampoo your hair twice as the first shampoo will break down the grease and dirt, you need the second one to get it really clean. You need to make sure all shampoo is rinsed off before you condition and when rinsing the conditioner give it an extra rinse x

herbal essences. i have super greasy hair, i can go two days with it but i wash it every day.

Just thought of something, OP. Sometimes there's a sort of scalp fungus (related to dandruff) that can cause your hair to be extra oily. Head and Shoulders has a shampoo that's specifically for fine, oily hair. I used it on DD once as her hair was getting very greasy and it worked fantastically...the greasiness never came back. Maybe give that a try?

Florieinaweddingdress · 23/01/2012 17:33

Ahhh noooo it's not a fungus! :o

I haven't tried two washes. That's on my list too

Do people really wash their hair every day? How do you find the time? Do you get up early to do this or do it before bed?

I'm not sure why people think its bad to wash your hair every day - provided you use a gentle shampoo its fine. Thats what I understood from trichologists anyway.

I wash my hair every day and do 2 washes and rinse very very well. And do use a small amount of good shampoo - I like kerastase or philip kingsley. I also only use conditioner a couple of times a week as if you're careful when you wash it - so don't shove it all onto the top of your head - it doesn't get overly tangled.

And yes I just get up very early - up at 6am and leave house at 8am with my 3 dcs.

But I loathe the feeling of unwashed hair as my hair is fine.

If you're in a hurry could you not wash it and then just dry the front and shove the back up in scruffy bun type thing?

Bonsoir · 23/01/2012 17:59

I agree with MrsCampbellBlack and think that you just need to resign yourself to washing your hair more frequently. I have fine blonde hair and it is repulsive if I don't wash and blow dry it every morning. I use John Frieda Sheer Blonde Volumising Shampoo and Moisturising Conditioner.

HazleNutt · 23/01/2012 19:56

Most people shower in the morning anyway, don't they? For me, washing the hair just adds a few minutes, then I let it dry naturally while I have breakfast, get dressed and give it then the final touch with hairdrier. not a massive waste of time.

Bonsoir · 23/01/2012 20:48

I have a bath every morning, exfoliate all over, wash and condition my hair and then moisturise my face and body. This takes all of 10 minutes. Drying my hair takes another 5 minutes later on, after leaving it in a towel-turban while I clean my teeth and pester DD to get ready.

DD has breakfast in bed (on a tray) while I am in the bath - my bathroom is en suite and her bedroom has a connecting door with mine, so we can stay in touch while she eats and I wash. Great time saver Smile.

Another one who has to wash every other day.

Are you trying Batiste in the same colour as your hair? I had the plain old pink one and didn't get on too well with it until I discovered the brown one. Works great!

Have you thought about having the Brazilian straightening treatment then your hair would take less time to blow dry. I've got the home treatment upstairs, just waiting for a good time to do it. You can't wash your hair for 3 days after so I need to time it so I don't need to go anywhere on the 3rd day after doing it!

I never knew about the 2 wash process!
Where have I been?
I think dry shampoo thinned my hair too amotherscorned

I once in my foolish youth didn't wash my hair for 5 days as an experiment... It actually looked wet!

PinotMN · 24/01/2012 09:33

I do the "dry the front and scrunchy knot style for the rest", too. Today infact!

ggirl · 24/01/2012 09:56

Another one who has to wash my hair daily. I also think my head sweats at night (lovely). You just have to make the extra time ..or wear a hat.

thisisyesterday · 24/01/2012 10:01

wow, i always wash mny hair every other day and i thought that was me being manky! most peope i know wash their hair every day

so would you say it's normal to only have to wash your hair every 3 days?? (genuine question as i hate washing my hair, it;s boring)

BarryShitpeas · 24/01/2012 10:16

I would like to try Aveda shampoo when I get paid. Anyone know how that is for fine, greasy hair?

Florieinaweddingdress · 24/01/2012 11:59

It's not really about not having time, or at least, it hasn't been for the whole of my shampooing life. It just looks crap if I wash it every single day. And really, if you can ever manage to go five days or a week, when you do wash your hair it looks AMAZING.

I didn't think so many people washed their hair every day. I'm not lucky enough to have hair that I can leave to dry naturally though.

I saw that Aveda shampoo barry while looking for most expensive shampoos. £30 a pop - blimey! I am thinking about it, though. If I wash my hair every three days with a £30 shampoo, that's the same as washing it every day with a £10 shampoo. You can't argue with maths!
