My hair is a nuisance! On day one it's great, day two it's iffy and by day three it looks like something you could roast potatoes on.

I really need something to give me that elusive third day! I've got a young dc and it's really not convenient having to wash and blow dry it every other day.

I'm on Tigi Catwalk volumising stuff at the minute, and it's just awful. The first day is brilliant but by the end of day two it's yucky.

I never use conditioner.

Pleeeeeease can anyone help me? I'm considering washing my hair in Fairy, that's how bad it is!

Dry shampoo and slightly grungy style on day 3?

Tbh that isn't what I would call greasy hair, having suffered with hair that would be greasy by the end of the day and unwearable the 2nd day without a wash. thank god for middle age! and batiste!

Popbiscuit · 22/01/2012 21:52

I think you need to wash your hair every day. Is your hair-type very difficult to blow-dry?

Florieinaweddingdress · 22/01/2012 22:01

It's fairly easy to blow dry but it's trying to find time and juggle the hairdryer and the baby that makes it difficult.

A wig for day three maybe?

Until I had my daughter I never really had greasy hair but whether it's hormones or what sometimes it can look quite rank! The best shampoo I have ever used and worked a treat for me was Matrix Biolage, I think it was called normalising shampoo or something, anyway you can get it in salons or got my most recent bottle on eBay. It really makes my hair feel super clean and it smells gorgeous, just make sure you hide it from your OH found out my DH likes to use mine as shower gel not impressed :)

Florieinaweddingdress · 22/01/2012 22:10

Ooh the reviews are good on Amazon for that one. Thanks melatoon.

It's dreadful having greasy hair, isn't it? Where does the grease even come from?

georgesmummy11 · 22/01/2012 22:46

Dry shampoo or talc if light hair works a treat just spray it in and brush.
I think the longest I have left my hair is 5 days I tied it up with some talc in. Blush
And I'm a hairdresser but washing your hair too often isn't good as it strips the hair of its natural oils which makes it greasier and drying and styling it all they time damages it.
Also tigi shampoos are very moisturising, try switching to another brand x

melatoon4 · 22/01/2012 22:52

I know tell me about it! I think I may have even understood it if I'd had oily skin but literally the skin On my face/body is ridiculous dry, ha, maybe because it's all gone to my hair :)

K999 · 22/01/2012 22:55

Tbh most folk would prob be like that by day 3! I know I would. Can you wash it the night before?

awomenscorned · 22/01/2012 23:01

Mine is sometimes greasy by the end of the day, after washing it in the morning, same if I wash it the night before. I could not leave the house on the second day because you could fry and egg with the grease. Hmm

Be warned about dry shampoo, it made my hair really thin.

Can you wash and leave it to dry naturally, washing takes a few mintues.

PinotVaggio · 23/01/2012 09:33

I have to wash my hair every day too. It's a PITA.

spooktrain · 23/01/2012 10:16

I wash mine every day too. I use the shampoo version of this conditioner which seems to make a bit of a difference (not sure if it's available in the UK though)

Florieinaweddingdress · 23/01/2012 10:59

It doesn't look good if I wash it every day. It's like georgesmummy says. Even after washing it every day for a week, it starts to look constantly dull and lank.

Drying naturally isn't an option. It's ever so slightly wavy, and it flicks out in random directions unless I blow dry it straight.

It's so awkward!

What brand of dry shampoo do people use? I've got batiste but it does look quite obviously talc-ified.

Ok no more tigi!

I have never been able to leave my hair three days. Every other day is my absolute maximum, and really I prefer to wash it daily. I try to resist as I know it's not great for my hair.

Have you tried volumising spray and spending a bit longer blow drying? I find if I blow dry mine properly with some volume in it, it tends not to get flat and greasy quite so quickly, and I can get away with a day of dry shampoo.

Can you cultivate a messy undo for day 3?

CoffeeGoneColdAgain · 23/01/2012 11:41

Wish I could leave my hair 3 days! Mine is awful after one day. :o

FreeButtonBee · 23/01/2012 11:48

I have greasy hair and a horrible itchy flaky scalp - it's not proper dandruff in that the flakes don't fall off - more like a build up of dry but greasy residue.

I use Philip Kingsley Itchy Scalp shampoo - been using it for 4 years and will never change.
I have not found a great conditioner - alternative between green herbal essence pot of conditioner balm before a night out (but it's too rich for every day) and something v light - tried liz earle recently and it's okay but doesn't give much shine. I always comb through conditioner with a tangle teezer and rinse rinse rinse.

Bumble and Bumble Volumising Spray then sprayed through towel dry hair - avoid the top layer of hair and don't use too much - about 5 sprays for mid-length hair.

Blow dry properly til completely dry - finish with BBH if have time.

This gets me through 2 days with decent looking hair and if I have to do day 3 it's not horrible.

KnitterNotTwitter · 23/01/2012 11:57

I thought that not using conditioner made your hair more greasy.... As the conditioner replaces the oils and stuff that the shampoo removes... so your scalp goes into over drive to try and compensate? Or is this just a myth... I guess if you went back to conditioner you'd have a transition period where your scalp adjusted but then after that it'd be easier for you... And try a mild shampoo that doesn't take too much of the natural oils off in the first place then your oilyness won't peak and trough...

noexcuses · 23/01/2012 12:03

Another one who could never make it to day3. Use Aussie Volumising shampoo. Worst was Tresemme.

Florieinaweddingdress · 23/01/2012 13:42

Phew, maybe day three hair isn't so unusual then! It really is awful on day three. It looks like a teenager's unwashed mane of sadness. You know those boys who cultivate a long fringe of grease to hide behind? Even if I put it in a ponytail, it looks wet with grease.

freebuttonbee, I got told that if you flip your head upside down during the condition and rinse, you can keep it away from the roots entirely. Depends on how much of gymnast you are though :o

I found Aussie stuff quite good but it built up after a month or two. Yes, tresseme is rubbish. Not from a salon I would go to again!

I'm convinced something is out there! When I have my hair done at the hairdressers it lasts for three, even four days! How do they do this? What potions do they keep out the back? Is it all in the washing technique, maybe? They don't half scrub at it.

I use queen for a day volumising stuff, but I haven't tried keeping it off the top layer. I will give that a go. I often just use a tiny bit of hairspray on wet hair before blowdrying to give it bounce. It works well enough for work days. Queen for a day can get a bit Dolly Parton for the office.

I am writing all these products down. Come the end of January, I'm going to get the lot.

With Batiste you need to use your fingertips to really rub the scalp to get rid of the "talc look".So spray, leave for a few seconds, rub into scalp with fingertips then brush through hair. The grey appearance will have disappeared! Took me quite a while to "get" this.I kept thinking "why does everyone say batiste is so great". I use it all the time now and yes, it is great!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 23/01/2012 14:17

I could never get to day 3, I wash my hair every day and in times of dire emergency can go a 2nd day, but only if I wear it up.

What hides the greasy roots is backcombing the roots into oblivion, spraying hairspray and waering it up in a rough chignon. Would that work for yoi (on day3 obv).

I would just wash your hair and dry it. Surely it doesn't take that long and the baby won't break in the meantime.

Florieinaweddingdress · 23/01/2012 15:19

penneyanne how much do you spray on? I have given it a little rub but then it disappears. Shall I really go to town with it?

Like a sort of Ab Fab Patsy do, getorf? Mmm I do like the sound of it. It's a ballsy hairdo isn't it?

Oh it's not that the baby will break. It's that he will pester me throughout the whole process. He wants to have a go with the hairdryer and look at the brush and roll the products around and pull at my legs etc. If I do it when he's gone to bed, then it's noisy and I'm wasting good hair time. I'm on a countdown to grease ming.

There must be a SECRET! I'm going to march down the hairdressers and have it out with them until they tell me how I can get day three hair, and I don't want to hear any more Tigi nonsense.

Catsmamma · 23/01/2012 15:24

have you tried the whole lather, rinse, repeat .....I never did the repeat!!

...I have recently started to do this and my hair now lasts two days, from having to wash it every damned day I can go two days with confidence that I look like a person and not like an oil slick.

or is everyone in the Whole Wide World already doing this??

Bramshott · 23/01/2012 15:29

I have greasy hair and just have to wash it every day. I solve it by having a style which doesn't need blowdrying.

HazleNutt · 23/01/2012 15:37

I have greasy hair and tried everything. This everything just dried my hair and made it lank and horrible, but didn't make any difference with greasiness. So I gave up and now wash every day, but use a good shampoo and conditioner - Ojon or Kerastase. hair looks miles better.
