if anyone is interested.

Chic jersey dress- terrible. Rip off at £79. Frumpy, droopy, under bust seam too low/ too high for a waist.

Valentine dress- lovely but has a polyester lining. Might keep but it's a bit uber smart for every day- unless you want it as office wear or occasion wear.

Ponte Roma dress- just odd. neckline is very high- felt strangled. Small fitting and very stretchy- size up! Nice idea but needs a lower neckline.

Santorini shift- in blue. Quite nice and with a 20% discount may keep but waiting for the longer length now as well, because it is very short in regular- 3-4 inches above the knee and I am only 5' 3. has anyone got it in grey?

Loafers- nice and may keep but will change colour from beige with orange trim to navy. perhaps. Quite narrow fitting which is what I need.

Thanks for your info on this. I was debating between the chic jersey dress and the santorini shift but think you have made up my mind for me! Will order the longer length shift as I'm 5'6 so regular will be up to my armpits by the sound of it! :o

I just spent an hour picking out this seasons mistakes.

Like that Paris jersey dress tho

polyhymnia · 11/01/2012 00:03

I've ordered that Paris one, along with several other dresses, to try. Has just been despatched but not arrived yet ...

hattymattie · 11/01/2012 07:04

Hmm - was considering the ponta roma dress - will steer clear now thank you. Preview order has just been despatched but played very save - a couple of tee shirts and a cardigan.

ameliagrey · 11/01/2012 09:09

Crem I don't have the catalogue- order over web- so can you pleas e say which items? Smile

ameliagrey · 11/01/2012 09:13

Chardom This just shows you how their sizes are all over the place.

The Santorini dress measures 33 in length the chic jersey dress measures 36 inches- and they are both listed as above the knee Hmm

Received lovely oilcloth bag today - keeping! Got dress coming which looks a bit like those Tucker ones Kirstie Allsopp wears.

polyhymnia · 11/01/2012 23:13

Which one is that??

BellaVita · 11/01/2012 23:20

Amelia - I have just left feedback on their website for the Retro Tunic (was £79 now £23 in the sale...) Barginious you may think... It does say they may not use the feedback, I guess if it says the item was bloody rubbish then the review will not be used.

Funnily enough all the reviews on it are very good.... However Customer Sevices lady says she is not surprised I am ringing to say the tunic has grown in length despite hand washing and drying flat as there have been 100's that have been sent back with the same problem....

They have refunded me the money before I have event sent the item back!

ameliagrey · 12/01/2012 08:43

I have received the Deauville jacket which is nice but the sleeves are a tad long so I am dithering. I'd also like to try a smaller size but they are out of stock for 5 weeks .

Boden is really wonderful for those of us in the country side a long way from proper shops. It is a good quality with pretty consistent fit and sizing.

But why does it all have to be so obvious! It just screams "Boden!!!!!" I guess it keeps selling, but I'm going to try and ignore the spring offerings this year.

Sonotkylie · 12/01/2012 16:14

Riviera shirt dress made me look like Kirsty Allsop's shorter fatter cousin and the print drove me mad (blue). I should have known better really. It would look lovely on someone tall and willowy, but wouldn't everything? I LOVE the casual jersey dress - smart with a tie cardigan or simple on its own. And the Artisan top will be really useful. Good length - can't help feeling I've seen it before but over jeans or swimming costume will be great. Didn't actually fancy anything else in the preview but chuffed that the dress works so well - usually I would find it made me look like a bus or something!

Sariska · 12/01/2012 16:14

I have the Deauville jacket, too (in pewter), and like it more than I'd hoped I would. Also got the Paris dress in navy, which is another keeper. It would be particularly lovely, I think, on someone with curves (not me!) but I like the drape and feel of the material, not to mention the swishy bottom, too much to send it back. What else? Oh, yes, I also got the Woven trim jersey dress in Airforce which I like more than I thought I would. However, am trying to persuade myself that it's a bit too Boden-y and thus should go back....

Also got a couple of shirts for DH, a few bits for DS (uncharacteristically he liked all of it so no hope of any returns there) and DD (baby birdy dress is very cute but whiffs strongly of some chemical that smells like whisky).

So, no-spend January going well here.

ameliagrey · 12/01/2012 16:46

I have to disagree and sayPara that the sizing is inconsistent! Look at the length of 2 dresses- one is 33 and the othher 36 - both listed as above kneeHmm

I rarely buy anything that is obvously Boden- ie no patterns.
For someone my age it is a good place for basics- I am not ready for Alexon, kaliko and other brands aimed at my age group.

I tend to buy a few bits from Boden, the White Company, Jigsaw, less from Kew these days, and that's about it.

sonotkylie which colour did you get casual dress you like in ?

FriskyMare · 12/01/2012 16:59

Bright red suede bow pumps - more of an orangey/pink colour, cheap suede, strap too loose - needs a buckle. Going back.

ameliagrey · 12/01/2012 17:16

Oh DH got an architect shirt with 20% it's not a bad price and he is keeping it.

If anyone has any thoughts on the cropped jeans let me know- I was thinking about the pale blue ( quali egg??) ones but thought they might be a bit well, mumsy? I don't know...

Another vote here for the casual jersey dress Grin. I have it in the navy mosiac. Also got the Breton top, fav crewneck cardi (pewter) and favourite v neck cardi (radish). Keeping all!

Waiting for roma trousers...

Sonotkylie · 12/01/2012 17:35

Sorry should have said. I am a strictly plain girl so got the pinky red. And i've just ordered the navy. I'm even more suspicious of the prints for that one than normal ...

Sonotkylie · 12/01/2012 17:42

Ooops sorry Rassy. I just don't do prints. They make me look weird. No offence i hope.

Part of me hoped they'd be awful so I could be smug about no spend January but having had the fun of a good try on for free. Fingers crossed for a hot summer to justify outlay ...

polyhymnia · 12/01/2012 18:21

Thanks sonotkylie. Asked because am thinking of ordering it in the navy.

Very disappointed with my own order this time - worst yet. My own fault because ordered several patterned dresses and one ditto tunic and really should have known better. I've had some successful patterned pieces from Boden in past, but they have been their more subtle offerings. Also, I dislike brights and their patterns this year are really bright. When I saw my box of clothes, it looked a bit market-stall like!

The worst was the blue flowerburst colourway in the Floaty Jersey dress - the pattern looked incredibly garish and Hyacinth Bucket like, at least on me. Even the moss pattern which I'd also ordered as an alternative was very bright - a sort of 'poison green'.

Also tried the airforce woven trim dress but, though the blue was fine, again there were too many bright colours for me in the print, particularly ones I don't like anyway (yellow, coral, etc.). Like all the rest, looked brighter in RL than online.

Paris dress is potentially nice but, though I'm 5'9'', it looked very long and frumpy on me, and the tie belt doesn't look great if you're large, as I am - something defined but simpler tends to be better. Had thought belt would be detachable, as it's a fixed wrap, but no.

Usually, I can at least find the occasional good piece among their tunics, but the pattern on the Border Trim one I ordered in two subtle-sounding colourways, olive and pewter, was again very bright and unsubtle in RL. Plus the bust seam was too high on my long body.

Lastly, like Frisky, got the suede bow pumps and agree with her verdict on them - they did nothing for me.

So they are all on their way back now, and I'll probably try the casual jersey dress and another tunic, and perhaps the pewter leather trim tote some time... Hope springs eternal!

Rassy · 12/01/2012 18:45

Sonotkylie No offence taken! I am drawn to some Boden prints though....Grin
