Are you all nursing hangovers or just clearing up the post Christmas mess?

TheReturnOfStropperella · 31/01/2012 20:05

Ooh, MrsS, I have now come over all Envy at the idea of a birthday spent doing things at your leisure in Paris. Doesn't sound bad Grin.

oldqueenie · 31/01/2012 20:06

oh and happy birthday stropps. how would your thoughtless family feel if instead of being cross you actually told them how hurt you are that no proper effort has been made for you on what should be a special day? I find with mine they are much more bothered by me being upset. when i am cross they can shrug that off or be cross back.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 31/01/2012 20:10

Thanks, oldqueenie. Yes, I did the "I am very hurt" bit during supper, as they were a bit more ready to listen by then. And I was a bit less cross. I think they did take it on board more at that stage, but only time will tell.

motherinferior · 31/01/2012 20:21

Queenie, my brogues are some years old from Office.

WHAT is it about Blokes and Birthdays? For my first one after taking up with Mr Inferior I got nothing....except for a positive pregnancy test Shock. I think it was my 46th where I got so incensed annoyed that even DP noticed and came home clutching champagne and chocolates. Since then he has made a Determined Effort, spurred on by the Inferiorettes.

DD1 is 11 on Thursday. Being a chip off the old block, she does not intend the occasion to go unmarked Grin

motherinferior · 31/01/2012 20:21

Oh and get the jeans. I have some orange ones Blush from Uniqlo.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 31/01/2012 20:26

Although now I think about it, perhaps if I had just given in to the urge to cry this morning, that might have worked better. Mmm, perhaps that stiff upper lip is just more trouble than it's worth. :)

TheReturnOfStropperella · 31/01/2012 20:27

MI, how is Uniqlo sizing? I am tempted but do not have the opportunity to visit them in the flesh, so to speak.

oldqueenie · 31/01/2012 20:28

not too late to break down in tears before bedtime imo!

motherinferior · 31/01/2012 20:28

I can fit my capacious arse into a 10....

Ooh look

motherinferior · 31/01/2012 20:31

Topshop has some nice ones too but I suspect I would do better with the sturdy sensibleness of Clarks

motherinferior · 31/01/2012 20:32

but then again...

TheReturnOfStropperella · 31/01/2012 20:35

oldqueenie, that is true enough. Although I have now caved in and drunk the Prosecco and am feeling better Blush. Perhaps I will cheer myself up still further by investigating the Uniqlo website. Or I may just get busy with my Sonic Scrubber. Grin

TheReturnOfStropperella · 31/01/2012 20:38

I used to have some red patent brogues from Office. I think some gold ones would be nice, but I fear I could not carry them off.

alto2 · 31/01/2012 20:39

Evening everyone

I dipped my toe in the thread a while ago, said hello and asked about going grey gracefully.

Then RL took over and I've missed an awful lot including, it seems, a meet-up.

Got some serious catching up to do Grin

The RL problems have certainly accelerated the greying process btw

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/01/2012 20:40

Does the Sonic Scrubber vibrate, Strops? Grin Or is she not that sort of gal?

MI - I used to have some shoes like that in bright red in my yoof (well it was the 80s). My colleague said I looked like Sister George on speed... Hmm

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/01/2012 20:42

Oooh, Strops, we had twin feet!

Welcome back, Alto2. Smile Are you embracing the grey or camouflaging it?

motherinferior · 31/01/2012 20:42

Wotcher fellow-Alto.

I have to say, I have had ENOUGH of sodding winter. Ended up whingeing and near-teary in the office today, mostly because of the general greyness of everything. Keep resolving to get early nights and then futzing around on the computer, not meeting deadlines here as well.

CointreauVersial · 31/01/2012 20:48

Hello all, Happy Birthday, Strops, have some Thanks with my best wishes and sympathies for your jolly inconsiderate family.

My birthday is also fast approaching, but we will be away in Devon on the actual day, so DH will require even more preparation and forethought than usual. But I have absolutely no cause for complaint here; he does generally pull something out of the bag (and I'm not talking about a Tesco bag Wink). The best by far being my surprise 40th birthday party, with friends from far and wide, video messages from Australia and a "This is your Life" slideshow. My birthday present was a week in The Maldives - he had sorted the childcare and even booked my jabs.

I'm not sure I can expect the same star treatment at 45, but you can bet I won't be anywhere near a kitchen.

BD, sorry to ignore your question, yes, I would say the jade skinnies from M&S Indigo are on the slim side calf-wise, but you always have to try jeans on.

MI, liking the sound of orange!

alto2 · 31/01/2012 20:53

I'm going to try embracing the grey, MI, & feel quite comfortable with it so far. And I'm going back to choir come hell or high water, and will sing in our concert on Saturday

oldqueenie · 31/01/2012 20:56

This is the Grey Haired Woman's Friend

CointreauVersial · 31/01/2012 21:00

Ooh, forgot to mention I had a visit from the POLICE today, on account of some poor parking outside the DD's school yesterday. It was a fair cop, tbh, although the photo made it look as if I had just abandoned the car in the middle of the road.

Yes, there was a photo. And I was away from the car for barely 2 minutes. I know exactly who took the photo, too; it was someone who was an aquaintance rather than a friend, but someone who I would happily chat to in the playground etc. She is a bit of a local busybody type who lives near the school; fair enough, my parking wasn't good, but if it were you in the same situation and you knew the person involved, wouldn't you say something rather than just take a picture and rush away to send it to the police?

Anyway, it was just a rap on the knuckles from Plod, and a "don't do it again". DH said "haven't they got anything better to do?" The DCs were highly amused. I'm still really cross, though.

oldqueenie · 31/01/2012 21:01

Pink Suede Brogues anyone?

oldqueenie · 31/01/2012 21:02

what a feckin COW!

TheReturnOfStropperella · 31/01/2012 21:27

Darn it, MrsS, twin feet and nearly twin birthdays. It's nearly spooky Grin

Many thanks for the flowers, CV and Wilbur. And BTM. I had not really noticed that emoticon before, but I am enjoying it now. :)

CV, that photo was clearly taken by someone with far too much time on their hands. V. small-minded, to say the least.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 31/01/2012 21:29

Erm, MrsS, I am sure the Sonic Scrubber will vibrate; I will report back on that. Well, she might at least deal with me limescale. Grin
