Are you all nursing hangovers or just clearing up the post Christmas mess?

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 13/01/2012 07:31

I should not be drinking much. Just like I should not be eating much.

BD, that sounds like a fantastic birthday plan Grin

Blackduck · 13/01/2012 08:29

Dp, ds and the dog might be first in..... :)

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 13/01/2012 09:31

BD, there has been a weird and extra-longlasting cold going around here. Lots of people (including dh and ds) have had it for 3 or 4 weeks. It seems to take up residence in your sinuses and make you feel it is never going to go away.

I will not be drinking much, because I never drink much (v. low tolerance, never drink spirits at all, ever) - but I will be looking as though I have drunk a lot because I go red in the face after 2 glasses of wine and talk even more rubbish than usual. Which is some feat. Grin

CointreauVersial · 13/01/2012 09:42

I am amazed that our entire family have managed to avoid the rampant viruses that seem to be around at the moment. I was standing in the kitchen at work between two people the other day, one regaling me with stories about her gastric troubles, another preparing a Lemsip.

DukesOfTripHazard · 13/01/2012 11:24

I thought Daria, the diaperfree lady looked completely exhausted and her DH was like some kind of Stepford Husband. There were a lot of American's weren't there?

Fishtail plait baby sitter coming to say hello on Sunday with view to booking her Friday. MI, thanks v much for offer of venal teens. I will keep them up my sleeve.

Am off to look at drum kits in a minute and feeling scared and wimpy. There's an ep of The Simpsons where Bart goes off a hobby and chucks the chess set (or whatever) into his closet where the karate suit and telescope are moldering. Drums a bit harder to shuffle off like that. Howevs, re-sale market v bouyant! I know I shouldnt' be embarking on this thinking about when it's all over but I am having small wobble. They will completely swamp my lovely little loft office....

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 13/01/2012 12:19

Get drumming, missus. Grin

herbaceous · 13/01/2012 14:04

Maybe we could start a crepey band? Dukes on drums, obvs, MI and I on vocals, or I could actually learn the lovely banjo that's been languishing on my wall. Or perhaps tootle my bassoon?

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/01/2012 19:42

Me on the recorder...

[not musical at all. Or artistic]

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 13/01/2012 20:43

Me on the harmonica. With the dog on backing vocals.

Morning all. Am in grumpy mood, but am going to have lunch with the lovely Hester (remember her?) and then supper with two other sporadic MNers. So I expect to be cheerier by close of play tonight Grin

Blackduck · 14/01/2012 09:52

Crap week all round.....
Pre-birthday cocktails last night. Feeling rubbish today (NOT hungover, this bloody cold).
Skip filling and friends tonight.

bigTillyMint · 14/01/2012 10:03

MI, I remember Hester's nameSmile Are they allfrom your neck of the woods?

BD, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Hope you don't have any mishaps skip filling - just managed to give myself an egg on my forehead - trying to help DH move old fridge freezer out and opened the freezer door hard on my head. Ouch Sad

Am having to shop for fresh stuff daily due to FFF - fingers crossed the new one does arrive Mon!

motherinferior · 14/01/2012 10:06

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 14/01/2012 10:22

I did it. Got this one. It's being delivered Tuesday. The shop manager assumed I was buying it for a son/daughter but said 'sweet!' in a fairly convincing way when he found out it was for me.

wilbur · 14/01/2012 11:38

Respect, Dukes! You have inspired me - I have always wanted one of these which may say something about my levels of aggression. Am starting the saving fund today!

Yay for confounding expectations!

Cool Dukes! - hope your office has soundproofing Grin

ruby, isn't it sad when you are secretly pleased that your DC has an injury Blush

A friend of mine did pole-dancing for her DD's hen-night. She was 61 at the time and the fittest one there Grin

Blackduck · 14/01/2012 16:36

Thanks all! Attic cleared, and under stairs. However, our sellers EA still hasn't had mortgage confirmation from our buyers. Survey done 10 days ago and they are considering it. Said to dp we will give them till Wednesday and if no news will put house back on market (have a potential 2/3 others interested and one is chain-free). After all the doubt I now want to move and get on with it!!!

Advice ladies, looking at two schools next week, one has a total of 90 pupils (so two years in one class), the other has 280 pupils - thoughts/comments??

bigTillyMint · 14/01/2012 17:00

BD, well done on having such a purposeful birthday, shame about the faff on the house-buying/selling frontAngry

As for schools, mmmmm. I think I would probably go for the bigger one (which is still small by London standards!) as there are greater possibilities for friendship groups and getting a different teacher each year. But you have to go for what you think would be best for your DS. My cousins DC went to tiny infant school, bigger junior and are now at bigger sec schools. Both are normal, well-adjusted children Smile

CointreauVersial · 14/01/2012 17:03

Wow BD, not the way I'd like to spend my birthday, but needs must, I suppose.....

If you are getting rid of stuff for the move, consider good old Freecycle. I posted two sofas on our local site at noon today, and by 3.50 they had both gone, taken, removed from premises, pooff......New sofa arrives Tuesday morning, so I'm now surveying our nekkid living room and hoping the new one arrives/fits through patio doors, or we'll be sitting on bean bags for the foreseeable future.

Schools.....hmm, I think a school of 90 would be OK for infants, but beyond Y2 I think the lack of facilities inherent in small schools isn't such a good thing, nor the fact that you will have a huge range of ages/abilities in one class. But, as ever, you have to go with your gut feel when you look around, and you know where your DCs would be happiest.

bigTillyMint · 14/01/2012 17:12

CV, we have a similarly nekkid kitchen, having hefted out the broken one as they will not take it unless it is outside the property...... and I am now worried that when they deliver the new one it will have to stand in our hall till DH gets in to move it to the kitchen. I never would have thought that having no FF would be so traumatic. I am now officially a sad old person who worries about these things.
