Tell me some nice things about this accessory

Like WTF is it? I think it's supposed to go round one's neck but am not entirely sure. It is basically a Christmas gift I plan to Ebay, but I am a fashion dunce so don't quite know how to describe it. I am hoping it is something sort of 'on trend' in some way... Anyway, to see it, look at my profile.

OP posts:
Pascha · 27/12/2011 22:08

I want to laugh but i Can't see you SGB, need to move your profile from your usual name.

solidgoldbrass · 27/12/2011 22:32

OK namechanged back, that should work...

Pascha · 27/12/2011 22:42

Nope. Is your profile public?

tethersend · 27/12/2011 22:51

Am intrigued...

eandz · 27/12/2011 23:14

me too. maybe just link it?

solidgoldbrass · 27/12/2011 23:14

Hopefully NOW the bastard thing should work...

tethersend · 27/12/2011 23:26

Fuck me, that's hideous.

Is it supposed to go round a carafe of wine? In the 80s?

Pascha · 27/12/2011 23:32

It's a Christmas gift? You mean some bastard actually bought it? Erm... Well... It's... Yes...

Nice infected bite, btw.

solidgoldbrass · 27/12/2011 23:33

Noooo, tell me good things about it so I can actually flog it on Ebay. Can I say 'Boho?' Or is that now unfashionable? Or 'Unusual and charming handcrafted accessory'? (Actually I can't claim it's handmade as I don't know that it is.)

eandz · 27/12/2011 23:33

I don't know what that is. I'm sorry about your leg though. Has it healed okay?

TheFallenMadonna · 27/12/2011 23:33

Is it home made?

TheFallenMadonna · 27/12/2011 23:34

X post.

How long is it? Might it be a belt?

tethersend · 27/12/2011 23:35

The leg is the most attractive picture on your profile.

I think your best bet may be the 'vintage' angle... Hang on, will look around.

eandz · 27/12/2011 23:35

I think it was stolen off of an elderly lady wig? or maybe it's from the war?

solidgoldbrass · 27/12/2011 23:35

eandz, thanks for your concern, I had forgotten that leg pic, that was about 3 years ago and mercifully long recovered.
TFM: I don't think so. THe person who sent it to me is really not the handcraft type.

solidgoldbrass · 27/12/2011 23:36

I am not going to sell my leg! Which doesn't look like that any more anyway. Xmas Angry

eandz · 27/12/2011 23:36

i think it's from the war. people wear almost anything in times of crisis.

solidgoldbrass · 27/12/2011 23:37

Which war, though? The gulf war? the war on drugs? The war on style?

eandz · 27/12/2011 23:41

all of the wars. every single one. i'm not kidding.

tethersend · 27/12/2011 23:43

Perhaps they wore that to deflect bullets?

eandz · 27/12/2011 23:44

sorry, you wanted to hear nice things about it.

  1. it's magical, you have to wear it to believe it.
  2. it makes the wearer look amazing (how could it not make you look better?)
  3. it'll go with nothing, so it's best to wear naked, it'll detract from any cellulite naked person may have.
  4. it will ward off evil spirits.

:) i'm kidding, it'll actually look good in ginger hair, or light brown hair.

Although it is a strange sight, I'm sure it could be wanted. Frumpy is totally in these days! Just look at the stuff being sold on etsy!

KurriKurri · 27/12/2011 23:54

technically, I think what you have there is a necklet.

'vintage inspired'
'unusual'
'colourful'
'suitable for many occasions'
'decorative'
'floral'

any good?

NanAstley · 28/12/2011 00:04

How long is the string? Is it long enough to be worn round the neck, or only long enough to be tied around the wrist.

The reason why I ask is because it looks suspiciously like a rakhi. <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=rakhi&um=1&hl=en&biw=1399&bih=743&tbm=isch&tbnid=iATTXQKH44K7XM:&imgrefurl=www.rajdhaniflorist.com/rakhi/Send-Rakhi-to-Pune.asp&docid=zk-DUeBhZKrI1M&imgurl=www.rajdhaniflorist.com/flowers/rakhi/rakhi33.jpg&w=400&h=400&ei=Q1z6ToGhA9Hn8QOVufSrAQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=185&vpy=283&dur=4&hovh=225&hovw=225&tx=127&ty=126&sig=109842346693867823427&page=7&tbnh=157&tbnw=157&start=116&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:7,s:116" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">This is a rakhi. It is an Indian tradition for siblings to tie this on each other's wrists on a certain day every year as a promise to always be there for each other.

Wiki explanation

solidgoldbrass · 28/12/2011 00:07

Thanks Nan but it is too long to be tied round the wrist. I think Kurri's right and it's a nooose necklet. Are you all sure that there isn't some fashion for wierd handweave crap going on at the moment? Is only a nutter going to bid for it?

Christmascack · 28/12/2011 00:43

Is it crocheted or knitted? ie made from yarn?
