A question for anybody who has a 40 something dh

What does he wear and where from please? I want to get dp a casual jumper for Christmas but all he ever wears is a navy blue v neck sweater (he has three virtually identical ones!) and I am soooooo bored of seeing them! Any ideas please? He does like best in navy but might also consider a different shade of blue, maybe grey, maybe khaki. But please NOT an M&S v neck!

Thank you. :)

look best, not like best

Oh and please not Fat Face because I don't like it!

My ds wears ben sherman shirts with jeans or plain white tshirts.

fluffylegs · 17/12/2011 12:35

uniqulo has nice men's stuff if you can get to one

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/12/2011 12:37

Thanks both. He's got plenty of shirts and t-shirts but our house is cold (Victorian, high ceilings = cold even with the heating on!) and I want to get him a jumper. No Uniqlo unless I have a trip to London but don't really fancy braving Oxford Street at this time of year!

DH does wear Fat Face Grin

He also wears Boden, Crew Clothing and John Lewis - and the odd M&S jumper!

tanfastic · 17/12/2011 12:41

Dh is the man from Mantaray at Debenhams. He's quite rugged and outdoorsy so the chunky knits and so on suit him. Maybe that's a bit similar to Fat Face though?

Rooble · 17/12/2011 12:41

Uniqlo are also online. I got my dh a really nice jumper from Joules last year (in John Lewis) - it had a zip neck and was red andooked lovely. They are also online.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/12/2011 12:42

:)

Thank you. Never heard of Crew, so will have a look at those and at JL. Dp refuses to wear Boden.

I don't mind it being from M&S - just not a navy v neck!

My ds is also a M&S navy v necker but last week came home with a really nice fleece but it doesn't look like fleece fabric, it's sort of creamy/oatmealy/knobbly textured.
Can't see it online, will look in the label & come back

AliBellandthe40jingles · 17/12/2011 12:47

Actually DH has some pjs and a big knitted jumper from Mantary, and they are nice. He is quite a big bloke, tall and carries a few extra stone pounds so he doesn't really do the slim fit shirt thing.

Actually he has also got a very nice zip up cardigan/jumper thing from TM Lewin that he's had a few years. It is merino but washes brilliantly and he wears it loads.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/12/2011 12:49

Thank you. Checking out Mantaray now but the Debenhams' website is stupidly slow.

Any opinions on this one?

Dp is six feet tall but v slim.

FourThousandHoles · 17/12/2011 12:54

Not sure I can really help, my dh wears black v neck pullovers from M&S

He keeps looking at those creamy/oatmealy/knbbly textured fleeces (thanks mumblechum Grin) but has never bought one

AliBellandthe40jingles · 17/12/2011 12:59

I like it, and not such a departure from a blue v-neck that he will be scared by it Grin

seasidesister · 17/12/2011 13:01

Paul Smith has some nice stuff.
DH hates anyone buying his clothes for him but will tolerate something from there Smile

BensonBunny · 17/12/2011 13:02

My DH is a big fan of Crew, I've ordered him their navy v neck for Christmas! They do a selection of others as well though and the quality is good. He is starting to look like an advert for them now as most of his clothes come from Crew but at least it's reasonably stylish.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/12/2011 13:03

Paul Smith lovely but too expensive.

I don't think he'd like a nubbly cream one because I don't think it would suit his colouring, which is a bit 'English rose.'

H+M

MrsHoarder · 17/12/2011 13:05

My local John Lewis had nice men;s jumpers on sale this morning: in navy, black, purple and dark green, with v-neck, turtle neck and with a 1/5 zip. I got my (younger) DH one.

Might be worth a look if you have one nearby.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 17/12/2011 13:37

John Smedley

ameliagrey · 17/12/2011 14:30

Mine is considerably older than 40 but looks much younger. he's also slim- waist 32-34 and 11 st.

he wears jeans from Uniqlo- straight leg dark wash,
shirts from Boden and White Stuff, and has just been forced intobought a couple of lambswool sweaters from White Stuff.
Soemtimes he finds T shirts, shirts etc at John Lewis - they have gone a bit trendier recently.

if he was splashing out he'd buy Gant, but you can get it for half price in the US if you go.

nice things here- they do come up small though- DH gets a M or even a Large and he is only a 38 inch chest.

Geordieminx · 17/12/2011 14:36

Jack Jones.

Have some stuff on asos too. Asosgrazia30 gets you 30% off full price stuff too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/12/2011 14:43

Thank you - am still googling!

BloooCowWonders · 17/12/2011 14:57

For plain-ish, what about Woolovers? I've bought my dh a couple of jumpers from there. They are v plain but the half -zip which have a slight contrast edging look really good and not too different from m&s navy
V neck!
