Navy top and black leggings...yes or no?

Have been trying to find a top to wear with leggings for my works do next week. Ordered a lovely kimono style top earlier this week which looked decidedly black (with a large red/white oriental pattern on it) on the internet.

It has just come and it is navy Sad but it is very flattering and lovely...so is it ok to wear navy and black and if not, do you think anyone would notice if I did Wink

No and yes, sorry I would!

Black and navy are never ok together IMO Can you buy a pair of navy leggins?

meltedchocolate · 23/11/2011 19:38

navy and black are not Ok together? Because....? Red and Green I understand, but navy and black? People are making up rules now to be cool aren't they...

meltedchocolate · 23/11/2011 19:42

Totally out dated, old fashioned and untrue rule. Changed now innit Wink

PrimaBallerina · 23/11/2011 19:45

Now gregs has a rep on here for being stylish but I disagree with her about getting navy leggings, I think that would look weird. That said I wore a navy top with black leggings yesterday as and I didn't feel quite right in it - I wished all my blue jeans weren't in the wash.

Can you rethink the leggings altogether?

dairymoo · 23/11/2011 20:06

I think if it's a very dark navy (almost black, but not quite) then no, it wouldn't look right with black. But I think a normal bluey navy looks fine with black...in fact I kinda link it.

Agree navy leggings would look too matchy matchy.

Could you wear dark indigo skinnies instead?

dairymoo · 23/11/2011 20:07

like it Blush

ceebeegeebies · 23/11/2011 20:11

The place we are going has a no jeans rule so no, I can't wear skinnies unfortunately. I could buy some navy leggings but not convinced it would look right plus I would then have to buy new shoes which I can't afford.

It is quite a dark venue so I am not convinced that anyone would notice (apart from the loos which are brightly lit Grin). I will be sat down for the meal so people could only see the top half and the dancefloor will be dark (am I just trying to convince myself here??)

Can you link to the top - might be able to judge it better then?

meltedchocolate · 23/11/2011 20:14

No you aren't, you'll be fine. Don't follow the daft rules, only the real ones. Navy leggings would looks horrible. Besides, you say there is big patterns on it. See this will make all the difference. Enjoy your night :)

ceebeegeebies · 23/11/2011 20:16

Ok but be gentle with me - everytime I link to clothing on here, it gets slagged off Blush

I clearly have no style!!

here it is Smile

Would you wear navy tights with a dress in that pattern?

I'd wear black ones, and would class leggings in the same category as tights, therefore would wear it with black leggings.

ceebeegeebies · 23/11/2011 20:33

Purple not sure what colour tights I would wear with it - probably would have the same dilemma tbh. I love Peacocks - have only just recently discovered it and am amazed how cheap it is but the stuff is much better quality then Primark and they have really lovely stuff in - tis my new favourite shop (probably not cool to admit that on here as it is clearly not Boden Wink

Shoes - am wearing very high platform court shoes (black ones!)

Ruby sorry, I would only be wearing my black shoes if I was wearing black leggings - if I am going to have to re-think what to wear on my legs, I would have to re-think my shoes aswell which would cost £££ that I haven't got!

purplepidjin · 23/11/2011 20:50

You could go for red or white leggings?

I buy so much stuff for work (office casual) from Peacocks. It washes and wears fine. Love love love love these boots and a pair of black and white brogue kitten heels that appear to have disappeared from the website! The b/w kitten heels have to be the most glamourous shoes I have ever owned, pure 1940's Grin

purplepidjin · 23/11/2011 20:51

these

tentative123 · 23/11/2011 20:56

i'd wear black ones, no worries

ceebeegeebies · 23/11/2011 20:57

I will pass on the red or white leggings - as a size 14-16 (albeit with good long legs) I am not sure they would be the most flattering Wink

Love the shoes and boots - god, I could spend a fortune in there...

dairymoo · 23/11/2011 20:57

I think black leggings and black courts would be fine with that top. Have a lovely night - sure you'll look fab!

stinkingbishop · 23/11/2011 21:02

ceebee I am a fashion dullard, so ignore me BUT I do think it is fun to break certain rules - brown with black, pink with orange (I always do that with flowers and it's lovely)...and my favourite outfit in the whole world which my Granny (RIP) bought me as a present from Harvey Nicks of all places who surely know their fashion stuff is a - shock, horror - black dress with a blue collar and belt with - double the outrage - black shoes with a blue bow. Sometimes I wear a black necklace with it; sometimes blue earrings! Outrageous!

I feel ace in it, and sure you will too!

Thinking about it now, have just realised Granny probably went to all that effort and expense because she thought I didn't know how to dress myself ;) She was the kind of lady whose nails matched her handbag which picked out a colour in her necklace...One day!

Peacocks is v good. And Next has surprised me too recently.

OMG to be not pregnant again and able to buy normal stuff!

stinkingbishop · 23/11/2011 21:03

And sorry, I meant that as in it's lovely to be pregnant but will be nice to buy non maternity clothes again too!!!

ceebeegeebies · 23/11/2011 21:33

Ok, you have convinced me that it will be ok Smile It really is a lovely top and I have not found anything else anywhere as nice.

OP posts:
stinkingbishop · 23/11/2011 21:43

I think it is just beautiful, and very flattering, so enjoy - no one will be looking at your bottom half anyway ;)
